Danny takes the torch and the flame turns cool and blue...hi Danny and blue flames!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:01pm

Hello gorgeous flamers!

Tonight was an unexpected scramble, so let me know if anything sounds amiss with volume, etc.

hey Danny and Bleuets
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:04pm
Matt from New Orleans:

Hi Danny! That ennio morricone track must have been short. I missed it entirely.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:05pm
Little Danny:

A brief two minutes, Matt. I could have listened to it for ten minutes more, tho
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:06pm
Little Danny:

Coel, Matt, chresti: hello! Some of my favorites here already
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:06pm
Matt from New Orleans:

Just discovered today that Booker T Jones has a memoir coming out at the end of October. Probably will be really interesting.

good evening Danny. hello everyone.

Heya Jason!

Heh, I should pay more attention to lyrics

yeah Danny.....
Avatar 🦭 Swag For Life Member 10:18pm

at least that's what I thought I heard
Avatar 🦭 Swag For Life Member 10:18pm

I like doing internet research on the 45s you spin during soul sets, always learning something.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:20pm
Little Danny:

Dave! Nice to see ya here brother. Your and chresti's avatars belong together in the same part of the mosaic
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:20pm
Little Danny:

@Jason: some rare, some not so much
Avatar 🦭 Swag For Life Member 10:21pm
JtotheK:

I have different books that indicate how likely it is to find different 45s, and I often think I should listen online to the really rare and therefore unlikely to find stuff - but I have fun hearing these for the first time on this and other programs.
Avatar 🦭 Swag For Life Member 10:22pm
chresti:

Ya hear that Dave? we belong together!
Avatar 🦭 Swag For Life Member 10:22pm
JtotheK:

@Dan to your point - The Jokers :: The Freeman Bros. (Though the Freeman Bros on Soul - never seen / heard of that, Soul is a decent size label.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:24pm
Little Danny:

The Freeman Bros. is in the intersection of the GREAT + AFFORDABLE Venn diagram
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:35pm
Matt from New Orleans:

I knew that The Robbs sounded familiar but a quick search provided my answer. They were the brother band that was the backing band on Where the Action Is.

hi friends
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:36pm
Little Danny:

Hi Melinda! How goes it this eve?
Avatar 🦭 Swag For Life Member 10:41pm
melinda:

Pretty good. Had a chocolate and cheese snack, about to start a round of sinus therapy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:51pm
Little Danny:

That sounds way better than the prepackaged chocolate pudding I just shoved in my mouth
Avatar 🦭 Swag For Life Member 10:53pm
JtotheK:

Dan, you didn't sound like you had a mouthful of pudding when you were on mic!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:56pm
Little Danny:

I'd just finished swallowing it straight down. GULP
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:57pm
Matt from New Orleans:

What is your go to pudding cup Danny?
Avatar 11:03pm
still b/p:

No chocolate talk!
Trader Joe's has been out of my gotta-have-it chocolate bar!
Me: "That chocolate bar that's missing, the so-and-so, it was gone last week and it's not thee now. You know when it'll be back?"
Service desk dude: "Yeah we don't have that. There's a production delay."
A) Yes, I know you don't have it -- I just said so. And B) there's no answer to my question in your reply, MISTER.
Chocolate deprivation = cranked up crankiness.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:03pm
Little Danny:

Oh man it was just some kiddie cup garbage I grabbed on an impulse. It's true: never go grocery shopping hungry
Avatar 🦭 Swag For Life Member 11:05pm
JtotheK:

For me it's sugar free jello pudding dulce de leche. 4 for under 3 bucks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:06pm
Little Danny:

I can imagine your barely contained panic, still b/p
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:06pm
Matt from New Orleans:

I’m not even sure I’ve ever had a pudding cup. It’s certainly not something my mom ever bought. We would make chocolate pudding from scratch.
Avatar 🦭 Swag For Life Member 11:06pm
JtotheK:

"Tune in next week for the newest feature of the Cool Blue Flame -- Talkin' Puddin' !" (Sure to be a hit!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:07pm
Little Danny:

Rice pudding and tapioca are actually my gelatinous foods of choice. I've even made "real" tapioca before. Worth it, I think
Avatar 🦭 Swag For Life Member 11:08pm
JtotheK:

I've been known to make the occasional (instant) pudding pie for a tasty treat. On pre-packaged pie crust. I'm not skilled enough to make any of this from scratch.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:08pm
Little Danny:

PUDDING TALK would be kind of an amazing regular feature

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:11pm
Little Danny:

I definitely have some soul-jazz sides that would be on point!
Avatar 🦭 Swag For Life Member 11:11pm
melinda:

I love tapioca pudding. One of the best puddings I remember from my childhood was something tapioca-like in a Swanson's TV dinner, I recall it was almond-flavored too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:13pm
Matt from New Orleans:

I’ve never got down with tapioca pudding but love pao de quejio
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:14pm
Little Danny:

Yeah, even the most prepackaged tapioca is still gonna be great. Sweat pearls of ecstasy
Avatar 🦭 Swag For Life Member 11:15pm
coelacanth∅:

i had tapioca pudding once or twice as a child. i liked it.
i'll let that memory stand.
Avatar 11:16pm
still b/p:

Or "fish eyes in glue" as it's sometimes called.
Avatar 🦭 Swag For Life Member 11:17pm
coelacanth∅:

...although, now that i think of it, we used to sell rice dream pudding cups that were pretty good. (just the chocolate)
that was the mid-90s though. now they've probably ruined the recipe with corn syrup.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:18pm
Little Danny:

@still b/p: haha, totally!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:19pm
Matt from New Orleans:

Have a good night everyone. I had to turn off my lights to help cool off my room. Still hot af outside. I’ll be listening till I fall asleep.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:19pm
Little Danny:

Wait, coel, "we used to sell rice dream pudding cups..."? Your family in the business?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:21pm
Little Danny:

'night Matt
Avatar 🦭 Swag For Life Member 11:21pm
coelacanth∅:

'night Matt

no Danny i managed a natural foods store
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:22pm
Little Danny:

Natural foods stores always smell the same when you walk in. It's a complex fragrance, I'm certain. Bulk food, hippie cleaning products, other things
Avatar 11:24pm
still b/p:

Imagine someone, anyone, from 50 years ago encountering the phrase 'hippie cleaning products."
It's...wait..what...?
Avatar 11:28pm
northguineahills:

Good napping sndtrk
Avatar 🦭 Swag For Life Member 11:30pm
coelacanth∅:

we sold herbs "in bulk". a very extensive selection (minus many common chinese remedies) i think those herbs dominated the odor of that store.
Avatar 🦭 Swag For Life Member 11:32pm
coelacanth∅:

on the rare occasion that anything besides the floor in that store got cleaned it was with citrasolv. (which smells wonderful!)
Avatar 11:32pm
still b/p:

Mighty Mighty Bosstones, among others, have a chocolate pudding song.
"..it comes in a cup...it's only a buck"

Pudding Pop should be a new genre.
Avatar 🦭 Swag For Life Member 11:34pm

Avatar 🦭 Swag For Life Member 11:35pm
coelacanth∅:

hahaha "pudding pop"!
Avatar 🦭 Swag For Life Member 11:38pm
chresti:

I remember a cleaner called "Heavenly Horstail", I bought at a hippy store in the latter 70s. It smelled nice. Dr. Bronners is still around
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:39pm
Little Danny:

A different Paragons, coel
Avatar 11:42pm
still b/p:

Bronners is a staple. Label changed recently. I've still never read -- after decades of familiarity -- more than a pinch and a nub of the lines in that sea of text on the old and new labels.
Avatar 🦭 Swag For Life Member 11:43pm
coelacanth∅:

oh i think i remember heavenly horsetail. a little pricey and didn't sell well.
dr.bronners is still about the same, but the label, now that dr. bronner's heirs are in charge, isn't as entertaining. kind of a parody of it's former self, with disclaimers and legal crap that dr. bronner didn't care about.
Avatar 🦭 Swag For Life Member 11:44pm
chresti:

I think of the song, Twiddle Dee, with "Mercy, mercy, pudden Pie" in the lyrics, whenever pudding is mentioned.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:45pm
Little Danny:

Dr. Bronners. Now we're talking the same bonkers language.
Avatar 🦭 Swag For Life Member 11:46pm
chresti:

I remember an image of a lady with long hair on the label of Heavenly Horstail
Avatar 🦭 Swag For Life Member 11:46pm
chresti:

Dr. Bonkers
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:47pm
Little Danny:

Haha, that's what my friend used to call it
Avatar 🦭 Swag For Life Member 11:48pm
coelacanth∅:

s b/p the bigger the bottle, the more information!
...we once received a whole case of peppermint soap and along with the bottle labels themselves in the box was a piece of paper. a very long piece of paper, maybe 6-7' (longer than i am at any rate) full on both sides with his "scriptures", in the same small print as the smaller bottles.
i think i still have it, somewhere.
Avatar 11:49pm
still b/p:

Ah, there's your lyrics for a concept album.
Avatar 🦭 Swag For Life Member 11:50pm
chresti:

It has different scents and formulations now, it used to be just peppermint, dr. bonners
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:50pm
Little Danny:

And Peppermint remains the best, most tingliest! I've tried most of 'em
Avatar 🦭 Swag For Life Member 11:53pm
coelacanth∅:

yeah peppermint's the bomb
Avatar 11:54pm
still b/p:

On varied road trips and in campgrounds I've often had a little plastic bottle with diluted Bronners in it for showers. So it has some association with modest adventures and good getaways.
Avatar 🦭 Swag For Life Member 11:56pm
JtotheK:

enjoyed the show - thanks danny! cheers everyone.
Avatar 🦭 Swag For Life Member 11:57pm
coelacanth∅:

damn, i can't even find a picture of the old label.
when he died the family changed it from legitimately kooky to entertainment kooky. changed the name to "magic soap" and "all-one" instead of "all-one-god-..."
etc.
  11:57pm
Ignore Function:

I once squirted Dr. Bonner's in my eye. The hole was gummed up so I squeezed the bottle and shot it right into my eye. I had bubbles coming out of my nose.
Avatar 🦭 Swag For Life Member 11:58pm

i wonder if it still has instructions on it for use as birth control
