9:14am Jeff g., about to drive to work:

Glorious greetings, Doug & the Douglettes! Taking you with me on the Jackie Robinson Parkway this morning; will try to keep it legal, but the opening set isn't helping. PS. "second year of college" = does not compute.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:16am Doug Schulkind:

Good morning, mighty Gina! Good driving, glorious Jeff G!

  9:16am JtotheK:

Was it Rutherford B. Hayes who invented the President Twist?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:17am Doug Schulkind:

Nope, JtotheK. It was Howard Taft. Part of his (failed) attempt at losing weight.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:18am Maggie B.:

Is the President Twist related to the Twisted President?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:20am Doug Schulkind:

Delighted to have you onboard the Drummer dinghy, Andy S! Grab the rudder, I'm going for a swim.
Avatar 9:21am ausmanx:

roaches, fleas, i'm not sure where this is leading...
  9:23am JtotheK:

Oh yeah, Doug that’s right. DK Goodwin devotes multiple chapters to her Taft and journalism book to how Taft wrote op-eds insisting it was the popular dance to learn, far more than the Electric Slide or the Hustle.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:24am Doug Schulkind:

@ausmanx
The Mosquito is coming up... later.

Avatar 9:44am ausmanx:

coincidentally, i'm working on two recent bollywood epics tonight, both quite good (one's about organ transplants, the other about sexual assualt... all singing, all dancing!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:45am Doug Schulkind:

My favorite organ transplant is Wurlitzer to Farfisa, ausmanx.
  9:48am bigplanetnoise:

The Vox Continental discrimination sort of bugs me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:49am Doug Schulkind:

From Wikipedia:

"The Vox Continental is a transistorized combo organ that was introduced in 1962 by the musical equipment manufacturer Vox. Having a characteristic bright but thin, breathy sound, the "Connie", as it was affectionately known, was designed for touring musicians. It was also intended to replace heavy tonewheel organs, such as the revered Hammond B3.

While that goal was not entirely accomplished, the Continental can be heard in many 1960s and 1970s hit singles by The Beatles, The Animals, The Doors, Elvis Costello, and The Velvet Underground. After being phased out of production in the early 1970s, the organ remained a sought-after combo organ by enthusiasts. In September 2017, Korg released a workstation-style keyboard named in honor of the Vox Continental and highlighting the particular Continental organ sound."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:50am Doug Schulkind:

In other words, bigplanetnoise, stick with the Hammond B3!
Avatar 9:52am Linda Lee:

the Jane Birkin of organs! let's hear her!
Avatar 9:53am ausmanx:

there seems to be a whole culture around Hammonds which is a foreign language to me... Oren Ambarchi is playing my living room this weekend and he's asked for all this weird stuff, like a "Leslie speaker (model 122, 145 or 147) with a preamp pedal" which is some monstrous Hammond add-on, i believe. i think i've found one...
Avatar 9:55am ausmanx:

meanwhile, imagine the Bollywood scenario which inspires a line like this... "If we killed her and took her eyes, I’d never be able to play the piano again."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:57am Doug Schulkind:

If I told you you had a beautiful organ, would you hold it against me?

I fell down a Marilyn Crispell rabbit hole recently. She is a pianist I am utterly thrilled by. I was shocked the other to notice that she happens to be 72 years of age. I still can't believe it. In my mind she is, like, 27. Her sound seems youthful to me, whatever that sounds like.
