This Bob Bell has been bending my mind quite a bite. Did Greg Ginn somehow have this private press LP on high rotation at the SST offices?

Yes, really more interesting than you first think - bits of free jazz floating around there -

Haikai No Ku can be a bummer - most of their tracks are a bit more, uh, uplifting???

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:21pm

@Martha - bummer vibes = good listening to my ears. Flipper, Drunks With Guns, et al. I dug it.
  1:21pm
Chuck Friendly:

I figured it out! Thanks
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:23pm
Ken From Hyde Park:

My low-budget research reveals that Kvelertak is a Norwegian band whose name translates to "stranglehold" or "chokehold." And "Ordsmedar av Rang" equates to "Wordsmith of Rank."
  1:24pm
Martha:

Kverlertak = ominous amount of self-indulgence on my part
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:26pm
fred:

I got enough uplifting things today: first, a notification from the post office that swagmas should fall on Friday. Second, a box of CDs from Houston, with the post office slip signed by one Sterling Smith
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:27pm
tim from champaign:

Does Nugent sing "Got you in a kvelertak, baby" when he plays Norway?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:28pm

Wow, Fred. Pretty killer mail today, I'd say.

@tim: Old stuff, from Six And Six to Twelfth Apostle. Yep, I figured I might as well go for the 50% discount on 20
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:34pm

Very cool, fred! I've always wanted to do that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:35pm
tim from champaign:

I wear progressive lenses too. I usually tell people that I have transgressive lenses.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:37pm
fred:

@sphere: I saw Jandek earlier this year, and not only did was the show great (unlike the first time I saw him, which sucked) I later saw him dancing during another band's set, in the back of the room. I love it when people show up for other acts instead of staying backstage
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:40pm
tim from champaign:

The main dude in the Long Ryders has a really good chapter in John Doe's new book.
  1:44pm

Thanks Tim - good to know -

Just tuned in- wnyc segment on dance clubs that had prostitution, 1840-1917, just ended (yeah baby!). / Never saw the Long Ryders. I should undo that.

Avatar 2:06pm
sphere:

Evidently, that Membranes song is from the band of the same name led by John Robb. Who knows who is in there now. <shrug>
  2:08pm
Martha:

@sphere - interesting, thanks for info - I think I have some ancient 12" EP from them which doesn't seem v. similar but then I haven't listened to it in at least 20 years...
Avatar 2:10pm
sphere:

@ Martha - i was interested because i am a huge fan of their 80s tune "Wounded Bull in Victorian England."
  2:10pm
Martha:

And thanks all for the good words - hope you enjoy this long track - not trying to be terribly self-indulgent but I hate cutting things off...tho' it will be nec. here - bad timing on my part -
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:11pm
fred:

This Abysmal Growls of Despair elicits nothing of the sort for me: clicky-star!
Rough translation of the title: Feeling the weight of mountains and finding peace in darkness
  2:14pm
Martha:

@Fred: thanks for the translation; I'll add it to the comments section (which I have never used before, actually).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:16pm
coelacanth∅:

the obvious solution here is to get your 12-3am program back, so you have time to play everything you want...and when the fcc isn't so strict about the station id being right on time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:19pm

rad show. i listened mostly while dreaming I was getting out of bed (in the oddest places)
  2:19pm
Marc15:

Is there a transmitter problem?
  2:20pm
Martha:

@Marc15: why do you ask?
  2:21pm
Marc15:

All I am hearing is static?
  2:21pm
Martha:

Was it distorting - that may have been my fault - I've adjusted the levels - this is mastered (unsurprisingly) v. hot
  2:22pm
Martha:

@coelacanth: I would love to but right now my schedule is really erratic and I can't commit to being here the % of time that is required
  2:23pm
Martha:

@sphere: Maybe I have the Membranes mixed up with another band. The one I was obsessed with from that period was The Creepers -
Avatar 2:25pm
sphere:

@ Martha: Who knows? The Membranes sound a lot different to me too.
  2:25pm
Marc15:

I hear the song on 91.1 but on the App is static
  2:25pm
Martha:

@Marc15:
a) is it better?
b) how are you listening?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:26pm
coelacanth∅:

well hopefully some day.
Avatar 2:27pm
sphere:

The app is working fine for me. maybe Marc is mistaking the tune for static.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:27pm
chris:

i, for one, say, indulge thyself, Martha. this is great.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:28pm
coelacanth∅:

maybe try lowering the bass on the "app"? i had to lower the bass AND the overall level because my room was rumbling too much!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:29pm
coelacanth∅:

(and now i can hear the subtleties of the piece that i didn't quite get before)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:31pm

Hey, This ain't Brittney Spears!?!?!?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:32pm
coelacanth∅:

this is what Brittney Spears is trying for but she doesn't quite hit the mark.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:36pm

totally. If only she shaved her head going against the grain.

I think the title pretty much fits the track. Seems they're from France, I hope I'll get the chance to see them someday
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:42pm
coelacanth∅:

remember when itunes canada accidentally (?) released 8 seconds of white noise as the latest Taylor Swift single?
and some silly people, like myself, who knew nothing about Taylor Swift entertained the idea that she might embrace it and gravitate toward "noise" in her art...
  2:43pm
Martha:

I wish I was listening to this in some type of surround sound while floating atop a pool of very salty water...too bad quadraphonic is dead.
