  2:59pm ?:

Hi, Irwin!
  3:00pm Rennie Codgers:

Welcome back Lee Morgan
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:01pm Michael 98145:

don't quite understand the device on that halo ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:02pm spodiodi:

i was told there'd be washboards
Avatar 3:02pm AnAnonymousParty:

It's a pacifier. Yeah, that's it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:03pm spodiodi:

metal halo with wooden clothespin?
Avatar 3:04pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Fargo? ?
...pretty far...
Avatar 3:05pm βrian:

Will there be an interview with the artist?
Avatar 3:05pm Irwin:

In an otherwise pretty odd painting, that thing on her head perplexes me no end.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:05pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Metal Halo = my new hard-rock band. Wooden Clothespin joining us on tour.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:06pm Spankyflop:

Good afternoon everyone
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:07pm Phillippe Bastille:

Howdy all. Beautiful day here in Naptown...
Avatar 3:07pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

That's it spodiodi. A comment on the afro seems to me. You can't spell Fargo w/out afro...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:08pm Michael 98145:

yes. i do suspect that is supposed to be a clothespin.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:11pm spodiodi:

astute observation, RRN63
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:11pm Phillippe Bastille:

I believe the picture is a social commentary on the plight of the indigenous people of central Africa, who are so impoverished in some communities that the poverty follows them to heaven, where they are given washboards instead of harps and halos made from clothespins and bent clothes hangers.
Avatar 3:12pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...that is Fargoing indeed...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:12pm spodiodi:

Phillippe Bastille makes a great case, imho
Avatar 3:13pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...why nothing, Anna. Sometimes a clothespin is just a clothespin...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:16pm spodiodi:

the tooth is going to break me
Avatar 3:17pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

you can't handle the tooth
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:17pm spodiodi:

Love the Phillip Johnston
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:18pm spodiodi:

oh my
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:30pm Ken From Hyde Park:

I just received an email about a jazz festival in Poughkeepsie in August. www.jazzinthevalleyny.org Along the waterfront just blocks from the Metro North train station. Neat!
  3:31pm Mark in Toronto:

My calendar has arrived, thanks. wonderful thick paper stock, and fascinating insights to the minds of some DJs. Endlessly entertaining. Irwin, I first encountered you here in Toronto, you brought your movie to a documentary festival at the Bloor theatre.
Avatar 3:32pm Irwin:

Ken, that festival looks great. Thanks for the alert.

Mark, thanks for the appreciation of the calendar. Listener Laura Lindgren (often here on the comments) designed it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:33pm Passaic River Blues:

@Ken: Ron Carter and Oscar Hernandez are certainly worth checking out.
Avatar 3:36pm Irwin:

Who's older, Ron Carter or Mighty Sparrow?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:37pm Mark Hurst:

Enjoying the show, Irwin!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:37pm Passaic River Blues:

Mighty Sparrow, per the Google. I underestimated Ron Carter's age by a good ten years. He's 82!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:38pm Mark Hurst:

Also, my new band is called Perplexing Thing.
Avatar 3:38pm Irwin:

Hello, Mark. Taking an afternoon off from battling the tech titans?
Avatar 3:39pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Lay off Thing already. It's hard enuff being just a hand...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:39pm chris:

from the other room, i heard the Munya track (dig) and thought Irwin was playing Souls of Mischief - 93 till infinity. :) and, hi!
Avatar 3:39pm Irwin:

This is the weirdest cover of "Up on the Roof" ever ever.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:40pm Mark Hurst:

Avatar 3:40pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Ronald Levin Carter (born May 4, 1937)
Slinger Francisco ORTT CMT OBE (born July 9, 1935), better known as Mighty Sparrow
Avatar 3:41pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Thing lending Mark a hand...
Avatar 3:43pm crateslinger:

this is like song-poem stuff
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:44pm Passaic River Blues:

Duane is pretty fond of this record, if I recall correctly.
Avatar 3:47pm crateslinger:

In French is this pronounced "Mood Wad"?
  3:50pm Rennie Codgers:

i knew u wuz gonna say wikipedia irwin.
Avatar 3:51pm Irwin:

I like moo-doo-weed. That's how the artist pronounced it in an interview, which I found on some website called Youtube.
Avatar 3:52pm crateslinger:

definitely better
Avatar 3:52pm Irwin:

Rennie: I hate being predictable. I'm outta tricks. Take me out behind the barn and SHOOT ME.
Avatar 3:52pm crateslinger:

I just couldn't picture a french person saying mood-oyd
Avatar 3:54pm Irwin:

I pronounced it mood-oyd first airing. But I am not a French person.
  3:55pm Rennie Codgers:

id rather u changed your profile picture to anne fargo's subject in time for next weeks show
Avatar 3:56pm Irwin:

Each week's profile pic should be last week's playlist pic.
Avatar 3:57pm AnAnonymousParty:

Lots of stars clicked today.

And, of course, Let's Go Blues!
  3:58pm Rennie Codgers:

bruins win tonight. Personal guarantee
Avatar 4:00pm AnAnonymousParty:

The Enterprise center is sold out to folks just watching on the big screens, along with Busch Stadium and Ball-Park Village. Honestly if they don't win I think the odds are good the inebriated and distraught fans will tear down the Arch in protest.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:01pm G:

  4:01pm Rennie Codgers:

my lock of the year
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:01pm Passaic River Blues:

This is probably my wife's favorite Stephin Merritt song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:02pm Ken From Hyde Park:

That Pooh selection would make a good Hoof 'n' Mouth project.
Avatar 4:03pm Lixiviated Life:

Irwin I presume.
Avatar 4:03pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

For sure Anna digs the Pooh Mash...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:07pm spodiodi:

the Tigger parts were cool
Avatar 4:11pm Irwin:

Nice avatar, spod!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:22pm spodiodi:

Thanks, Irwin! I think the cowboy is next
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:23pm spodiodi:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:25pm spodiodi:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:26pm spodiodi:

  4:26pm Vt Knit Girl:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:27pm spodiodi:

  4:28pm flashbazbo:

The thing on the head is a test tube duh.

This painting is in honor of the first test tube baby who was a black skiffle musician.
Avatar 4:29pm crateslinger:

It's the valve and piston ring from a '64 BSA Gold Star
Avatar 4:31pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Taught Leadbelly everything. The whole Alternate History of 20thCentury Musics here... The song 'Angel Baby' is all Code...
  4:31pm berbo:

I love that.
Avatar 4:32pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Anna Fuwaygos
Avatar 4:32pm Irwin:

Speaking of perplexing: a lot of Juliana lyrics.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:47pm Kat in Chicago:

Rats, I missed "Hot Topic."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:47pm spodiodi:

  4:48pm berbo:

  4:48pm dug:

hope they figure it out irwin.
  4:48pm Laura L:

Was it a stand-up MRI or lie-down MRI?
Avatar 4:49pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...& these are the Brain Patterns specific to people who think bugs are crawling in their heads
...Science Marches On...
Avatar 4:50pm Irwin:

Lie-down. Claustrophobic panic attack first pass, then I realized my mistake was opening my eyes. After that, I kept 'em closed and focused on pleasant memories.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:51pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Thanks, Eeyorewin. You really worked your tail off today.
  4:53pm Laura L:

When will the docs tell you what they think it is and that it's not Cochlear Insectitus?
  4:54pm P-90:

“Eeyorewin”(!) Wasn’t he the clinically depressed elfin balladeer in The Lord of the Rings?
  4:55pm Listener Robert:

I thought it was a pacifier. A pacifier for a very deep throat.
Avatar 4:58pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Kind of a Rohan rider name: Eo = Horse...
  4:59pm Martinibomb:

Just droppin into say hello Irwin.. running my show in the digital stream currently.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:59pm Michael 98145:

Agreed/ MRI is no fun.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:05pm Michael 98145:

deep dive into my grey past
  5:06pm Listener Robert:

I Googled "Anna Fargo" and painting and got this:

Avatar 5:09pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Yay w/ the George cover.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:12pm Carmichael:

Heya Irwin. I had an MRI on my shoulder recently, and I was in total confined space panic. Some Darvon took care of that ...
  5:13pm Ochre Ogre:

Yeah! Long Long Long, beautiful cover of a beautiful overlooked song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:14pm G:

I kinda enjoyed my one MRI, over a decade ago. Grind clunk whine whirr, over and over. Yeah, like Bryce's show is sometimes. :-) I had some ideas deliberately stored up to think about, so I wouldn't get bored/annoyed. I wasn't gonna be anxious. Why volunteer to suffer? I figured if people really got hurt or something I'd have read about it long ago. Just needed to make sure I didn't have any metal or whatnot on me ahead of time.

Found out I had congenital, but progressing, spinal stenosis (narrowing of spinal canal), bottom of spine (lumbar 4-5), which explained my tingly/numb foot (spinal cord nerves that service my right foot always getting pinched between two lumbar bones). The annoying part was that there was no sure fix, and many downsides to trying. So I've just lived with it, in the hope that it doesn't get too much worse. Fine so far. If you're not dead, you're alive.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:15pm spodiodi:

my mri didn't bother me, but i wish i would have asked how to keep a copy of the data then. been putting off another for a while
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:17pm spodiodi:

i was pretty sick then, and think i was dozing off during
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:17pm spodiodi:

G, you make a good point
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:19pm common:

Drums, Irwin, all
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:19pm Spankyflop:

My profile pic is an MRI of my brain.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:20pm Michael 98145:

@G, my L4-5 issues convinced me to join a gym
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:20pm G:

@spodiodi: I try. But as we used to say in NYC, That and a token gets you on the subway...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:21pm Passaic River Blues:

"Here Comes the Wave" is an excellent and I also have no idea how to pronounce her name. Ken from Hyde Park might know!
  5:22pm berbo:

It's pronounced "Throat-Wobbler Mangrove"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:22pm Passaic River Blues:

*excellent album
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:22pm spodiodi:

awwwwwwwyisssss Russkaja!
  5:22pm P-90:

Isn’t Shana Falanna the daughter of Lola Falanna?
  5:24pm Listener Robert:

It really does look more like a test tube than a clothespin, because it's transparent near its lip.
  5:24pm MONEYBAG$:

I actually have a recording on my phone here of Shana Falana saying her own name!
Avatar 5:25pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Lola Eo Anna Fargo
This Rusky stuff is way fun.
Avatar 5:28pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Loves Love never heard. A lot.
Avatar 5:28pm Irwin:

Guitar: Gary Rowles
Avatar 5:28pm Irwin:

This is the post-Forever Changes band. Hit or miss. This hits.
Avatar 5:30pm Fredericks:

I consider myself a rocker, but I almost always prefer Love's folkier side.
  5:30pm Listener Robert:

Now I think it's one of those tubes to hold solution for blowing bubbles. Deep so you can dip a wand in. The ring is a lanyard to hold it. It goes with the bubbles theme of the background.
  5:30pm MONEYBAG$:

Ok can definitively state Shana Falana is pronounced like Sha Na Na
Avatar 5:30pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

The Love that actually kinda Toured them big venues a bit ?! Cause Arthur didn't like leaving L.A. ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:30pm Carmichael:

Didn't realize there was a band after Forever Changes. I thought most of them scattered to the 4 winds ...
  5:32pm MONEYBAG$:

4 winds 4 sail
Avatar 5:32pm Irwin:

The only problem with this track: too short.
Avatar 5:33pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Wull - it's the diversity of influences in Love - which makes this perfect rich Baroque balance by 'Forever Changes'. From the beginning there was Garage, R&B, Lounge, FolkRawk (MacLean rodied for bYRdS), Psych... they relate to it all. Zackly twixt bYRdS & doors in L.A. ...
  5:33pm MONEYBAG$:

If it's too short just play it twice
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:33pm spodiodi:

Listener Robert has it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:33pm Michael 98145:

This is something
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:34pm spodiodi:

and is the bracelet a freezable teething ring bracelet?
Avatar 5:34pm Irwin:

Drummer's gotta be a meth freak.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:34pm spodiodi:

Yeah this Love can keep going all day, please
Avatar 5:35pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

There's deffo a Washing Up thing going on there - yeah... 'Angel Baby' was a Lennon fave - & the Butcher Cover is an oblique reference to Our Child here as well...sees...
Avatar 5:37pm CC:

Kind of reminiscent of Billy Cobham
Avatar 5:37pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...it's the Pat Boone (clean) / Little Richard (AfricanAmerican & 'dirty') polarity in one image...
  5:37pm BH:

(Goes to Spotify to put Russkaja in my recent searches) - hopefully it's not *too* cliche to mention that I really enjoy Gogol Bordello and if I start with Russkaja, Spotify will probably shuffle me to Gogol.
  5:38pm Andrea in Jersey City:

Great show!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:39pm chris:

viva la freeform!
Avatar 5:39pm Irwin:

BH: Russkaja has a number of releases, all pretty consistent from my limited listening.
Avatar 5:41pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...American Music is a kind of test tube baby - in *precisely* this respect...it's really quite profound - & expressed so concisely here...
Avatar 5:42pm Fredericks:

Forever Changes had electric guitar on only two tracks. I did not realize that until I heard it on Cd for the first time.
Avatar 5:44pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Wow Fredericks.
Avatar 5:49pm Fredericks:

And the Wrecking Crew recorded at least one song on Forever Changes. Arthur wanted to show the band who was boss.
Avatar 5:49pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Don't know this Buffaloes either. Continue.
Yeah Frederick - wake up call...
  5:50pm ?:

Thank you, Irwin.

I hope the doctors take care of that formication.
  5:52pm Peter from Dover NJ:

Been lurking for a while. A most awesome set today, Irwin. Gonna find me some Russskaja for the collection.
Avatar 5:53pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Mr. Chusid - I humbly suggest you might consider persisting in making these playlists for a short while.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:56pm chris:

thanks, Irwin! good luck with the ear critter!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:56pm spodiodi:

thanks, Irwin! may the phantom menace begone
Avatar 5:57pm Fredericks:

I tried to create a beat out of the MRI sounds, but they were too random.
Avatar 5:57pm Fredericks:

You will survive, Irwin. I have faith.
