it's weird when you know the bed music and every time it comes on you expect the whole track. :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:32am Ike:

@steveo, they owe me a favor for that time I got them out of a jam with Charlemagne, a barrel of mead, and a sack of angry bees, so I can get you a pass this time. They'll just slap you around a little bit instead.
Avatar 9:35am medow:

cool set man.. if you want to see Nick Cage unhinged and in a good movie than check out Mandy, it’s pretty awesome.

I really don’t ever want to see Nic Cage in anything again.
Avatar 10:12am βrian:

Not even in his own cage?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:17am Barney Grubbs:

doesn't really fit the soundscape, but Cage Grind Noir, the Nic Cage-themed grindcore band, is amusing for a little while cagegrindnoir.bandcamp.com...

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:23am Zetti:

I recently watched Laurie Anersons Heart of a Dog, it was just... amazing.

Avatar 10:24am Linda Lee:

help me, listeners. was that trees or cheese?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:24am Zetti:

*Anderson's film
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:28am Nulsh:

Lind Lee!
I'm gonna say 'cheese'.
Avatar 10:28am Itzall ClearD'me Nåu:

L.L., do you mean:
"The cities. The mountains. The rooms. The trees. The trains
Optical illusions. Not there. Like dreams made of nothing..."
Avatar 10:29am Linda Lee:

yes. i heard 'the rooms. the cheese.'
i thought: 'the cheese?'
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:30am Ike:

We'll also have to leave behind cheese when we die, sorry to say.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:32am sphere:

i'm taking my cheese with me, Ike.
Avatar 10:33am Linda Lee:

i'm not unfamiliar with these concepts, so why does the piece strike me funny?
maybe because Laurie once claimed the Hamptons as a spiritual home. i keep picturing disembodied Laurie dodging friday night traffic.
Avatar 10:34am Itzall ClearD'me Nåu:

Haha. I thought so... sometimes "mis-heard" lyrics/phrases can be better than the original. For years I heard "I'll be DAMNED" instead of "I'll be THERE" in the Temptations (or 4 Tops) song of the same title. Of course I was a child so I probably just WANTED it to be that.
Avatar 10:34am βrian:

@LL: That's hilarious.
Avatar 10:35am Linda Lee:

'dammit, Lou. where's that cheese we bought in manhattan?'
  10:35am JakeGould:

What about when Laurie Anderson was trapped in a oxygen therapy bag? nymag.com...

the older i get, the less patience i have for precious.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:37am Planet Tyler:

Havent watched the series yet but I'm going to Chernobyl in Oct. I think I'll visit before watching it.......
Avatar 10:37am Linda Lee:

Jake, why is that so funny to me? i must be mental.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:37am Planet Tyler:

Havent heard Dawn of Midi mentioned in a while!
Avatar 10:40am Linda Lee:

if there's no levity, keep yer darn death meditations under yer hat!
Avatar 10:43am Linda Lee:

that's my advice, aging artists! :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:48am melinda:

@Planet T why are you going to Chernobyl?
Avatar 10:52am Linda Lee:

my understanding is that the area has become beautiful after human abandonment.
Avatar 10:53am Linda Lee:

a snapshot of a post-human world, maybe. good for meditation!
Avatar 10:54am Linda Lee:

still dangerous, though.
  10:55am JakeGould:

@LindaLee: Comedy is tragedy plus distance.

Also, FWIW Jonathan your death theme is somewhat appropriate to me since this is the anniversary of my mom’s passing back in the 1990s. So hey; that’s on my mind.
Avatar 10:57am Rev. Turnip Druid:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:58am Summer and Michael and Sylvia:

Loving this RIP Hayman piece, Jonathan. And great hearing you on air!
Avatar 10:58am Linda Lee:

agree on comedy/tragedy Jake.
i'm sorry to hear about your mom's passing. it's hard to lose them, no matter what our relationships in life were like. mine's gone a few years now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:01am Ike:

Avatar 11:04am Linda Lee:

great show today so far, Jonathan! thanks!
  11:04am JakeGould:

Thanks Linda. FWIW, my mom passed away at Coney Island Hospital. It has a really unearned reputation as being “a dump” because… Who knows. Proximity to Coney Island? Anyway we lived nearby and we had great care there in all cases (my mom and dad as well). That unearned hatred was one of my first lessons of classism and prejudice even in healthcare and life/death situations.

Beware of anyone saying a hospital is “good” or “bad.” It’s never as clear cut as that.
Avatar 11:05am Linda Lee:

(even if i do chuckle at Laurie Anderson ~ part of my cultural awareness since 1980 or so.)
Avatar 11:06am Linda Lee:

thank you, Jake. agree. i've heard similar disparity of opinion concerning where my mother spent her last days in Kingston, under nursing care.
Avatar 11:08am Linda Lee:

in many instances we're just not talking about the same world at all, clearly.
  11:15am JakeGould:

Anyway, this Jay-Dea Lopez is amazing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:20am Ken From Hyde Park:

The DMZ between the Koreas is another wildlife hide-out.
Avatar 11:23am βrian:

Good lord, The Carpenters momentarily hijacked my stream. There are gremlins in the system, apparently.
Avatar 11:24am Linda Lee:

all that's needed for wildlife to thrive is for humanity to pull back. that's it!
Avatar 11:24am Linda Lee:

is that you, Butchie Spinoza?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:25am Rich in Washington:

Whu..? I can't clicky star Hippie guy talks about The Universe?
Avatar 11:27am Linda Lee:

how are you today, Rich?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:29am Rich in Washington:

Hiya LL! I am quite well, thank you! And you?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:31am Rich in Washington:

I just this morning realized that it's Wednesday and that I'd better get crackin' on selecting stuff for this week's show. The holiday on Monday threw me off.
  11:33am Fashion Tashjian:

This (Triple Negative) reminds me a lot of early Negativehate, but even earlier than their early stuff. Especially the vocals. Weird band from Rockland County.
Avatar 11:36am Linda Lee:

better get crackin, Rich! :-)
i'm fine, thanks. withstanding the trash fires. :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:38am Carmichael:

Heya Jonathan and crew. Finally, a white homepage! You don't know how happy that makes me. Others' websites can be downright unreadable.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:39am Ken From Hyde Park:

The other playlists are blurred and obscured. How ironic!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:45am Rich in Washington:

@LL: trash fires? Metaphorically or literally?
We have neighbors who are perpetually burning something all year 'round.
  11:46am rw:

Morning! I'm attempting to de-blur with some coffee...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:46am Rich in Washington:

Jonathan, it's been great to hear you on the air again. I've missed your shows, that back announce drone sound, etc.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:48am Rich in Washington:

Hippie guy talks about your mind working at the speed of light is perhaps my favorite, right behind Douchebro Does Mescaline Around Bonfire, Has Delusion of Deep Insight Into Consciousness, Won't Shut Up, Unconsciously Starts Talking Like Joe Rogan.
  11:49am Fashion Tashjian:

Yes, bring the Ambarchi!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:49am Nulsh:

Thanks Jonathan!
Avatar 11:50am Linda Lee:

got both here, Rich! :-)
Avatar 11:51am Linda Lee:

thanks for a great show, JH! made my morning navigable. :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:51am Rich in Washington:

The only thing worse about douchebros at parties doing psychedelics and suddenly thinking they're 'woke' is when one or more of them brings an acoustic guitar to the bonfire.
Avatar 11:53am Linda Lee:

a real recipe for fun!
do i search for 'douchebro ~ mescaline'?
Avatar 11:53am Rev. Turnip Druid:

woke bro in the drum circle?
....time to split.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:54am Rich in Washington:

be afraid, Rev. Be VERY afraid.
Avatar 11:55am Linda Lee:

i'm sure they're far more likeable on beer, even if only minimally likeable.
  11:56am rw:

Thanks Jonathan. Blurred and Obscured sounds great at this hour too.

Bros likeable? Maybe when they're sleeping.
  11:56am JakeGould:

@Rich: How about when they enter their late 30s/early 40s and suddenly have a revelation at how horrible they have been, grow a beard, might get divorced and then “do something” to make amends? They also jog.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:56am Rich in Washington:

I'm writing a song called Douchebags with Acoustic Guitars. It's all really loud downstrokes and shouty, singy lyrics. It's based on every open mic poetry night I've ever gone to.
Avatar 11:57am Rev. Turnip Druid:

...at which point it's useful to lean over & whisper into Tripping Bro's ear ... 'ever wonder how your heart knows to keep beating?'
Avatar 11:57am Linda Lee:

i attended one (1) Columbia frat party in my life ~ early 80s ~ & i'm still incredulous at the sheer waste.
Avatar 11:57am Linda Lee:

that's unkind, Rev.
  11:59am JakeGould:

@Rich: My neighborhood is Brooklyn is pretty lunkheaded (non-hipster Brooklyn) but a nice small bar has an open mic night that I force myself to go to since I want to support things that are generally good—like this bar—but my God this last one as just people singing on guitar OMFG did I down those beers.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:59am Rich in Washington:

@JG: That's actually being 'woke'. Few of them make it that far, I suspect. That's an ugly look into a stark mirror that few can take, unless life's completely turned upsidedown and knocked them on their ass. Even then.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:00pm Rich in Washington:

Thanks, Jonathan! Hope to hear you again real soon!
