  3:03pm yippie:

hello to all you suncats
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:05pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Informed by Irwin.
Better believe it.
  3:06pm John from Florham Park:

Hey RRN63 nice seeing you on the main board
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:06pm G:

It's a marvelous day for a Moondog
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:07pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Brilliant & beautifully performed.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:08pm Phillippe Bastille:

Hi Irwin and friends
  3:11pm John from Florham Park:

@Phillipe hello
  3:12pm modern blaze:

Greetings Sir! I won't type too much. I know manners, Sir.
  3:12pm yippie:

even Moondog wanted to be in Europe more than the banks of the lower Hudson
  3:13pm John from Florham Park:

@Midern manners good for you
Avatar 3:13pm Itzall ClearD'me Nåu:

"Please excuse little Phil from school today, he is in Europe.
signed, Phil's Mom"
  3:13pm John from Florham Park:

I meant modern
Avatar 3:14pm WmKMoss:

This sounds fascinating. Glad I tuned in (logged on). Listening in Rural Western Pennsylvania in what feels like the vortex of a cultural void. WFMU et. al. provides needed sustenance.
Avatar 3:14pm Hoboken Jack:

I'm sitting on your stoop, eating a Fiore's sandwich, listening on the app. Moondog 4eva!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:15pm Phillippe Bastille:

I have bad message board manners but I am learning. Will be on keyboard silence...
Avatar 3:16pm Jack:

So is May 15 Moondog's birthday? I wasn't clear on that. My friend's birthday was also May 15 - we just came back from scattering his ashes on the Hudson River.
  3:16pm John from Florham Park:

@WKM try living in South Florida now that is a cultural wasteland
Avatar 3:21pm Jack:

nevermind: Wikipedia says: May 26, 1916. unless they're wrong...
  3:23pm mary, not a musician:

P Glass on Moondog - profoundly touching. I've been in that East Village house but not when Moondog was there. Just a few times to help on a PG project quite a while ago.
  3:25pm mary, not a musician:

Staying for the entire show. Alright, Moondog!
Avatar 3:26pm WmKMoss:

Yes indeed John from Florham Park. I am in a deep Allegheny River valley that only the local radio waves can reach. Mostly goat roping music and Bible thumping ticket to heaven merchant formats, not that there is anything wrong with that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:27pm G:

Sand Lily keeps reminding me of Ravel's Bolero...
  3:29pm Marie:

I love Moondog's music and I am grateful to Irwin for turning me onto the 'dog. Thanks, Irwin! Did that movie ever get made? It seemed to me that they are still looking for funding...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:31pm diciassette:

Ah, exciting! I have picked a good time to tune in.
  3:35pm zipe:

which grandma of moondog did you think was jewish maternal or paternal?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:36pm Z-pulpa:

I am thinking about this show as a welcome to the summer season. I took a short nap pn a park bench at lunch today, I am grateful for the sun even though we are all being cooked to a crisp.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:39pm Z-pulpa:

I am also grateful for Moondog's music, and Irwin's show and WFMU very very much.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:42pm Passaic River Blues:

This is superb.
Avatar 3:49pm Listening Out There:

I've heard several of these Moondog/Scotto programs now. Enjoyed 'em all...
  3:50pm Jeremy:

This is wonderful! Viking I is one of my favorites, and this cover is sublime. Thanks for another Moondog celebration Irwin and Robert!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:54pm Granny Spicy Tuna:

Yay, i've been looking forward to this. Huzzah for Moondog!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:57pm Phillippe Bastille:

Hi Granny! I got your postcard today! Thank you! The first decoration in my new office
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:59pm Granny Spicy Tuna:

Phillippe Bastille! Yay! Wonderful. And i think that you and i are usually mostly quite well mannered on the chat boards. ;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:00pm Z-pulpa:

have there been new regulations on message board manners I am not aware of? keep it to the music? hmmm. I like to free association too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:01pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Voice reminds of Robert Wyatt a tad.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:01pm Phillippe Bastille:

Depends on the board. I need to do a better job reading the crowd. You're usually pretty sunny, I can just be annoying lol.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:02pm Ken From Hyde Park:

I received my card yesterday, thanks. I wonder if the postal system considers cards covered with glitter to be good manners or not. That's about all I've got for decorating materials. Bubblegum decoration is right out, I'm sure.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:02pm Phillippe Bastille:

Speaking of the music, I've heard very little Moondog before and I find I have been living a life deprived.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:03pm Z-pulpa:

its just the yucking of yums that gets to me.
Granny! I got a photo of my card from my Portland household, I have to drive across the country to get it in real life though! soon soon enough! Thank You!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:05pm G:

@GST: Your SF postcard came to me via USPS just in the last hour. Tx!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:05pm Z-pulpa:

This show is so special! I have always thought that Moondog's music somehow crossed genres and time periods and hearing these covers back to back really brings that to the surface.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:06pm Z-pulpa:

I want to learn one of his pieces on clarinet.
  4:07pm Mike tp:

I can't believe this lightships tune is associated with moondog.did I have him all wrong thanks Irwin shedding light..!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:08pm Granny Spicy Tuna:

Z-pulpa: Each board has its own subculture in the overarching WFMU culture, which is generally friendly and freeform, for sure. I like that we can have friendly exchanges about all sorts of topics.

And it is so thrilling to hear that the postcards have arrived all over the map to other WFMU listeners! The offer still stands: if you send me your mailing address (via my profile) i will send you a postcard SLATHERED with stickers. xoxox
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:08pm dave wuz here:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:10pm Granny Spicy Tuna:

and Phillippe Bastille: how profoundly delightful that you are now embarking upon your Moondog experience. He is certainly a favorite of mine, and this program is offering a deeper appreciation of this masterful composer and performer.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:11pm Phillippe Bastille:

If my brain can remember, a stickerless card will be heading your way, Granny. That's a big IF though. I have the memory of a 137 year old man
  4:17pm Listener Robert:

Darn, I missed the instant WFMU reached its fundraising goal. Was there animation of the scientist walking over to where he is now? I'd been hoping it'd happen during Jim Price's show so he could say he put them over.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:17pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Guess he had no problem w/ Bird's blackness...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:24pm Passaic River Blues:

That Kenny Graham rendition was absurdly good.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:27pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

There were Giants in those days...
  4:29pm Listener Robert:

A friend gave me his copy of the summer 1986 LCD. I don't remember if I was getting LCD then -- maybe have a moldy copy of that one in the garage -- but that's when my WFMU dark period began as I moved to where I couldn't get the station inside my home. Apparently it was hard to get DJs over the summer then, as Irwin had both a Tuesday noon to 4 show and a Thursday 9 to midnight. Some shows on that schedule were 4 or 5 hours and/or hosted by someone who had another show on WFMU (and maybe elsewhere), and "Listener Art" included a fragment of a note, "HELP! I NEED SOME[...] TO SUB FOR ME THIS WE[...]" Nobody took weekday 3 to 6:30 AM either.
  4:37pm reggir:

so killer
  4:42pm Listener Robert:

The 1986 marathon brought in $91,194 in pledges. "We hope to eventually come close to last year's rate of return, which was 86%." Ken has said that in recent time they've been collecting much closer to 100% of pledges. Expenses for the fiscal year, which ended in June along with the college's, were $77,982. They were saving up for a new transmitter and recovering from a lightning strike.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:45pm Granny Spicy Tuna:

Ahhhhhhhh, i love the rounds
  4:50pm Listener Robert:

I just realized how you scraped up that last $3,000 over the weekend: You sent Gentle Joe McGasko to "service" those people with uncollected pledges from 1986.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:50pm WillCrete:

That was a real joy taking the deep dive into all those versions of "High on a Rocky Ledge." -- What a line: "If you´ve the yen to pluck, then pluck us both" -- I never cease to be thrilled by the amount of motion in his music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:50pm Passaic River Blues:

OK, this one probably wins for most imaginative reworking of Moondog.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:52pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Moondog & Glass under one roof is alone worthy of deep focus.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:00pm common:

Moondog day!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:04pm Granny Spicy Tuna:

Tiny Tim and Moondog, two of my favorites, musically… despite their personal beliefs. But if i had to be ethically aligned with my favorite musicians, i might not have any favorites. Oy.
  5:06pm William Main:

I remember seeing Moondog interviewed on the Alan Burke Show (WNEW-TV) sometime in the mid 60's. Has this footage (or any other interviews) been preserved?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:08pm el_musgo:

Great show! GRACIASSSSSSS!!!!!!!!
  5:09pm yess:

this the best ever!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:09pm Passaic River Blues:

Man, that Hobocombo interpretation is excellent, too. Transmuting that lyrical solo piano piece into a bouncy, math rocky jam.
Avatar 5:12pm laughingacademy:

huh, I think Hidden Orchestra's "Reminder" is also sampling the soundtrack of Fritz Lang's METROPOLIS
  5:13pm Listener Robert:

I probed around to find any transitional GIF between 99% and GOAL for the barometer, and it appears the GIFs were kept offline until used. Good security against us curious listeners.
  5:16pm Listener Robert:

Thanks much for the artwork, whoever. Hey, sounds like there's a radio program on too!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:21pm Passaic River Blues:

@Listener Robert: I believe the artwork and gif were created by WFMU listener/sometime host, Greg. www.wfmu.org...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:21pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

'Greg from ZONE 5' did the gifs! & they got 'hacked' previous year - so glad we got to enjoy the whole thing...
Avatar 5:24pm Parq:

Greg did a great job with the gifs. The final "goal" one was worth waiting for. And yay, for making goal!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:25pm Mike East:

Oh wow...we finally made the goal? I was getting worried about it....thinking I need to work some overtime so I could afford to give more. That took too long this year....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:27pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

'Metropolis' (1927) - tho' silent did have an original score I believe.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:32pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Actually reminds me of Tolkien in a few ways in these specific respects...
  5:33pm Listener Robert:

Moondog was part of the modern Odinist revival. You should understand that most of us don't take the myths literally. That's not their purpose. The Jehovistic religions, properly understood, also should not be taken literally.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:34pm Granny Spicy Tuna:

beer commercials, TV themes, Radio spots… he does it all! (OK, i'm imagining a world with a Moondog TV show theme)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:34pm Granny Spicy Tuna:

Moondog's "Coffee" round could be a fine advertising jingle
  5:43pm spodiodi:

love the moondog b-day show. thank you Irwin and Mr. Scotto.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:46pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Ja Dankeschön
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:46pm Michael 98145:

thank you, again
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:47pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

  5:51pm Listener Robert:

Thanks for the link, Rabbit.
  5:53pm Laura L:

Thanks, Irwin & Robert--looking forward to the 8th time, too, next year.
  5:54pm Ike:

The book isn’t on Audible though.
  5:57pm Vanessa bikes:

thanks for doing this, what I've heard is a great show! I'll have to go back and listen to the whole show later.
  5:58pm Ike:

Irwin would be a decent choice to narrate it. (Disclaimer: I am in the employ of said establishment.)
