Hello! :-)
Avatar 3:00pm Otis Fodder:

Hello and happy Friday all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:00pm Jan Turkenburg:

Hello! :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:01pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I can relax now ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:01pm Webhamster Henry:

The Ondioliniste and his dog.
Avatar 3:02pm Otis Fodder:

A bit of a rocking standard fare today of tunes. Loads of 7" singles.
Avatar 3:02pm Mr Fab:

Whassup Otis! Aah , Monsieur Perrey and his gizmos, love it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:02pm Rich in Washington:

What a delightful little tune!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:03pm Webhamster Henry:

I used to have a version on piano roll. Also: Casio clock!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:04pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Do you think we'll all see better in 2020? :-D
Avatar 3:04pm Mr Fab:

Did you have an actual player piano, Henry?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:09pm chresti:

Avatar 3:09pm Mr Fab:

Heh, was chopping up bits from the "Shemp Meditation Tape" recently to add to the stream.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:11pm Webhamster Henry:

@Mr. Fab I did for many years - a baby grand AMPICO reproducing piano . It's over at my sister's house now, with about 300 or so rolls.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:12pm Webhamster Henry:

... but I recorded a bunch of rolls before I sent it off: Here's the whistler!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:16pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Gonna listen in the background and catch up with the rest later :-) Have a fab time evryone! :-)
Avatar 3:22pm Mr Fab:

that is so cool, henry! Thx for the download. i actually once attended a concert of new music for player piano. We sat there and watched the piano on stage playing itself.
Avatar 3:22pm spacebrother:

Allright! France Gall!
Avatar 3:23pm Otis Fodder:

@Fab - intersperse shemp throughout the stream.. ha ha ha.
Avatar 3:24pm Mr Fab:

that's the plan, Otis!
Avatar 3:25pm spacebrother:

Always liked that Shemp track. Downloaded many years ago, and it shows up on my shuffle occasionally.
Avatar 3:25pm spacebrother:

And it annoys the normals.
Avatar 3:26pm Otis Fodder:

@spacebrother - I had long forgotton the Mind Control tape until you reminded me of it recently and that it's on the FMU blog! Brings back 90s memories.
Avatar 3:26pm spacebrother:

It's one of my first treasured collections.
Avatar 3:28pm spacebrother:

Liking this playlist a lot. Planned to do a "oddities from pop music" show sometime soon. Godley and Creme and etc.
Avatar 3:29pm Otis Fodder:

Love Godley and Creme, that would be great!
Avatar 3:30pm Mr Fab:

This song's like: "Hello, 'Telstar,' we salute you!"
Avatar 3:31pm Otis Fodder:

It really is! I never noticed that, why I don't know. Now I get why it resonates with me. Friggin Telstar!
Avatar 3:35pm Mr Fab:

Like Otis said, You can already pledge now folks, even tho the official Marathon starts tomorrow. Be ahead of the crowd! Scroll to the bottom of this page for the absolutely spectacular DJ-compiled CDs 'n' stuff:
Avatar 3:36pm spacebrother:

Do you get frowns in MTL when you speak French? :D
Avatar 3:37pm spacebrother:

I did.
Avatar 3:38pm Otis Fodder:

Nah, only from the 'speak english' types you would see in the states. Cool folks don't frown upon someone trying. I always go French first and quite often fail miserably, but it's fun learning.
Avatar 3:40pm Mr Fab:

"Italian Spiderman Theme" HA HA HA!!
Avatar 3:41pm spacebrother:

Truthfully, I only got one bad reaction. Everyone else switched to English immediately.
Avatar 3:42pm Otis Fodder:

That's it, the cool switch. When that happens I switch over with the person. Quite often, it continues as a mix of frenglish, bit of both.
Avatar 3:43pm spacebrother:

Immersion. I guess you'd have to live with a roommate or other interested party to get good at it.
Avatar 3:45pm spacebrother:

This sounds like an album that Andy Kaufman would have had in his collection.
Avatar 3:48pm Mr Fab:

Dude's jammin on that Casio!
Avatar 3:50pm Otis Fodder:

@spacebrother - Hope you can visit MTL again in time... and next time Pizza is on me interstellarbrudder.
Avatar 3:52pm Otis Fodder:

I have been singing this "cycle of life" song all week. Good earworm!
Avatar 3:56pm spacebrother:

@Otis - Thank you! Actually adding Quebec maple syrup to my earl grey right now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:01pm Kat in Chicago:

That sounds delicious, spacebrother. On my first visit to Montreal I was terrified to speak to anyone for the first 8 hours and then realized I was going to starve to death if I was afraid to order food in English :) I didn't have any problems. They say "Bonjour" I say "Hi," and they switch to English readily.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:01pm Kat in Chicago:

I am Duolingo-ing French right now so I can at least recognize some words the next time I go.
Avatar 4:02pm Otis Fodder:

@Kat - I love Duolingo, use it here too!
Avatar 4:03pm grantbob:

Time to defenestrate.
Avatar 4:04pm spacebrother:

@Kat - Yeah, they also do that in France somewhat as well, as long as you speak French first.
Avatar 4:04pm Otis Fodder:

@grantbob - Thanks for the radio show link you sent over. Will be checking out when I catch up on streams/listens this weekend. My weekends are usually for catching up on Sheena and FMU shows I missed due to work during the week.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:05pm chresti:

In France, I found that trying to speak in french is appreciated, even if it sounds like spanish
  4:06pm jeff:

If you throw someone INTO the house is it enfenestrarton?
Avatar 4:06pm grantbob:

@otis I think that one is from Toronto.(though not broadcast from there)
Avatar 4:06pm Don-O:

Don't mind me, I'm just waiting for you to play Bob Chance.
Avatar 4:06pm Otis Fodder:

That's it... it's the attempt, we fumble with language but it's fun.
Avatar 4:07pm Otis Fodder:

@Don-O - Saving Bob for the last cut, right before your show. Planned it that way. ;)
  4:08pm jeff:

J'ai perdu la plume de ma tante en la bibliotheque...je suis desolee
Avatar 4:08pm Mr Fab:

or just plain "fenestration"? like "decode" and "code."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:10pm Rich in Washington:

Speaking of Bob Chance, re: Moribund Music, etc, I SWEAR I once ran across that Gary Brisalera (sic) track Balderdash online and now I cannot. Otis, Don-O, do you know what I am talking about? Am I crazy?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:10pm Rich in Washington:

Oh man. I cranked Rita while driving around during your show last week when you played her.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:10pm Kat in Chicago:

One of my favorite Stereolab tracks right here.
Avatar 4:11pm Itzall Ablurr:

Kat in Chicago, that very thought just passed through my noggin.
Avatar 4:12pm Don-O:

Hmmmm, Balderdash might have played on Dr. Demento.
Avatar 4:12pm Otis Fodder:

When I was picking out Stereolab cuts, I was going to play something more obscure but then I was like nooooo, play my fav all time cut!!
Avatar 4:12pm Don-O:

Avatar 4:12pm Itzall Ablurr:

Loved seeing them live with all of their little keyboards and stuff spread out across the stage... seems like a LONG time ago now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:13pm Kat in Chicago:

Haha jeff, I learned "désolé" at least because I am clumsy and bump into people a lot
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:14pm Rich in Washington:

Oh. Good call, Don-O! I'll bet you're right. It definitely sounds like something that would be on Dr. D.
Avatar 4:14pm Don-O:

There's a whole YT channel crammed with 'Lab Live recordings. I don't know if it's still on line?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:20pm Kat in Chicago:

My Bandcamp feed and WFMU are my primary sources for discovery these days.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:20pm Webhamster Henry:

The Sheena stream is lots of fun! Thanks Mr. Fab!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:22pm Rich in Washington:

Oh man. This is fantastic!
Avatar 4:22pm Don-O:

I'm beginning to discover Bandcamp myself.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:24pm Franco Twinkie:

Electro Pico And Sepulveda
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:25pm Kat in Chicago:

The Bandcamp feed is great because you can follow friends and like-minded individuals, and then what they buy shows up in your feed. If you follow the link from the other person and buy something, they get a cute email (if you've allowed that)
Avatar 4:26pm Mr Fab:

Thanks, Henry! Still can't quite believe I've been allowed to get away with this crazy station. Station manager Ken is a saint.
Avatar 4:27pm grantbob:

Bandcamp has become my primary source of ambient/spacemusic.
Avatar 4:28pm grantbob:

oh.. and Richard Cheese.
  4:29pm Martinibomb:

Fun set today hadn’t heard this hot ice in awhile always dug this good production
Avatar 4:35pm Don-O:

I don't know if I REALLY want to live in Sycamore these days.
Avatar 4:36pm grantbob:

Had not heard the Ataraxia thing before... very cool. There's a Kickstarter thing for a documentary on Mort and Plantasia right now.
Avatar 4:37pm Otis Fodder:

@grantbob - WOW, just found it. Thanks for the heads (plants) up! www.kickstarter.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:38pm chresti:

Great set-thanks Otis!
Avatar 4:38pm spacebrother:

CONET drop in.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:39pm Rich in Washington:

The cartwheeling clowns are enough to keep me away. No thank you, sir!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:39pm Webhamster Henry:

I just added CONET Deutsch to my iOS app Enumero.
Avatar 4:39pm grantbob:

I guess it's really more about them looking for the record or something.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:39pm Rich in Washington:

Oh wow!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:41pm Rich in Washington:

This is fantastic!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:42pm Kat in Chicago:

Yeah this is new to me, love it.
Avatar 4:42pm Mr Fab:

Orbital are still around, eh? Well, hello '90s!
Avatar 4:43pm Mr Fab:

I used to get 'em mixed up with The Orb.
Avatar 4:43pm Otis Fodder:

... and both are making new tunes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:43pm chresti:

Liked the Orbital
  4:44pm Martinibomb:

Yeh I always like orbital and orb little fluffy clouds
Avatar 4:45pm spacebrother:

I love this. My copy is so degraded that this is like hearing it in sensurround.
Avatar 4:45pm spacebrother:

The ECC track
Avatar 4:46pm Mr Fab:

i was so happy when napster came along - I could finally get this ECC, and Negativland's "U2."
  4:46pm Martinibomb:

This track was a def influence on me
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:48pm Kat in Chicago:

I'm more afraid of Nazis next door now than I was in 1998
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:49pm Rich in Washington:

This was one of the first things I remember downloading off Napster. I think ECC deliberately tagged it as Negativland, if memory serves.
Avatar 4:49pm Mr Fab:

Oh no, not THIS guy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:49pm Rich in Washington:

I know what you mean, Kat. That line just really sticks with me, especially nowadays.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:50pm Rich in Washington:

They're not hidden anymore.
  4:50pm Martinibomb:

What’s the song in the background ...i made a dubby cover of it years ago that turned out swell
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:51pm Rich in Washington:

I've never heard this one! That RIAA dude is sick!
Avatar 4:51pm Don-O:

RIAA rides again!
Avatar 4:51pm Itzall Ablurr:

You mean the Morricone?
  4:52pm Martinibomb:

Yeah cant seem to remember the name of that track right now hah
Avatar 4:52pm Don-O:

I think the first thing I got from Napster was 'It's Still Billy Joel To Me'. As I didn't have the internet at the time, a friend downloaded for me.
Avatar 4:52pm Otis Fodder:

Hang em High ... maybe the Montenegro version Fab?
Avatar 4:52pm Mr Fab:

Its' not Morricone, its' Dominic Frontiere's "Hang em High" theme.
  4:53pm Martinibomb:

Hang em high
Avatar 4:53pm Otis Fodder:

Ah, the OG Dominic version, nice.
Avatar 4:54pm Mr Fab:

yeah Rich, i haven't released it into the wild. Otis gets my failed experiments!
  4:55pm Martinibomb:

That’s funny i give him my failures to hah
Avatar 4:55pm Itzall Ablurr:

Oh, it sounds like the main theme from "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly", who made who?!?
Avatar 4:56pm Otis Fodder:

In need of more failures please and outtakes. From all. Usually the outtakes hold treasure!
Avatar 4:57pm Don-O:

Has anyone heard Wayne Butane's Swipes 2?
Avatar 4:58pm Mr Fab:

Morricone made "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly" first, Frontiere kinda ripped Morricones' style (in a great way) for "Hang 'em High"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:58pm Kat in Chicago:

Better stealth than an elf on the shelf, I reckon
Avatar 5:01pm Don-O:

I'm now on Bandcamp looking for Music Works For Industry! The fun continues!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:04pm Kat in Chicago:

One negative about Bandcamp, and it's a significant one: search is pretty janky. I find it easier at times to just put what I'm looking for plus "bandcamp" in a regular search engine and follow a link from there.
Avatar 5:05pm Mr Fab:

Hmm, this song used to have narration over it, didn't it?
Avatar 5:07pm Otis Fodder:

@Fab - Yes on the LP. The variation version is on the 7" EP included with the LP.
Avatar 5:10pm Mr Fab:

Kat, i actually wrote to Bandcamp a few years re that very issue. Like say you want "Death Metal" + "bagpipes". There's no way to do a more basic search then just, say, "Death metal." Searching can takes ages and yes it can be a bit frustrating. They said 'yeah, that's a great idea, maybe we'll do something like that.' Still waiting...But I do love Bandcamp, have used em for years.
  5:10pm Martinibomb:

I found a copy of my hang em high cover and posted in the FB group... also a failed stereolab cover i forgot about
  5:13pm Martinibomb:

I suspect bandcamp will be around long after soundcloud
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:38pm Kat in Chicago:

Darn, I had to do work things and missed Le Téléphone
Avatar 5:43pm Mr Fab:

HIGHLY recommend the dj CDs we're offering here. I've listened to 'em, and I'm tellin ya, you WANT these, people! Scroll to the bottom:
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:46pm Kat in Chicago:

I'm more excited about the DJ premiums than the t-shirts and tchotchkes this year.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:47pm Kat in Chicago:

The CD DJ premiums, that is.
Avatar 5:47pm Otis Fodder:

Cool Kat!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:52pm Webhamster Henry:

Where are the singin' swingin' groups of yesteryear?
Avatar 5:56pm Don-O:

Avatar 5:58pm Otis Fodder:

Thanks for listening all! Stay tuned for Don-O and Rich for the next 2 hours. I'm off to see a gallery about wine.
