Charles Mingus said jazz was a word invented to separate musicians from their money. Music for a Free World brings us together, drawing listeners to the healing power of smooth free jazz. Each week, surprise guests bring their own sides to spin and their instruments of choice to spontaneously jam.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:18pm chresti:

I always trust tambouras
  2:18pm rw:

Franco, Drizzly rain. Same as you. The bad thing is I've got crap to do inside but the rain seems to be de-motivating me.
Avatar 2:19pm coelacanth∅:

Franco (@2.16) that question reminds me of this:
  2:22pm rw:

Oh, and Franco, there seems to be a dinosaur in your front yard.
Avatar 2:28pm Sem:

Yes, yes, yes, sounding fine, fine, fine. Hello, David, and all.
Avatar 2:28pm coelacanth∅:

i have dinosaurs living in the roof above my door.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:29pm Doug Schulkind:

Hooker played live on my radio show in '91 and it got released as an LP on Ecstatic Peace!

Howdy Dave!
  2:32pm Anchovy Paste:

Avatar 2:35pm coelacanth∅:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:35pm chresti:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:38pm chresti:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:38pm fred:

@chresti: are you going back to jury duty next week?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:39pm chresti:

Yes @fred
  2:39pm rw:

Franco, not TOO sarcastic, was it? I have trouble sometimes determining whether my sarcastic and contradictory tendencies are assets or liabilities.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:41pm chresti:

rw-Franco is making cornbread and will be back shortly.
  2:42pm rw:

Cornbread! Nice rainy day activity. I hope there's a pot of chili to go along with that.
  2:43pm David J:

Loving this piece
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:49pm chresti:

If there's a piano in the room, I have to dink around on it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:49pm fred:

Dave, your voice is much lower that hers, and hard to understand
  2:49pm Nancy E.:

Can't hear your voice hardly, Dave. Mara is coming through loud and clear.
  2:50pm john rogers:

i am listening dave and mara! greetings from downtown brooklyn
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:51pm fred:

Much better now
  2:52pm john rogers:

today is groundhog day and the groundhog did not see its shadow, thus spring is near
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:53pm chresti:

There is/was a piano at union station open to anyone that wanted to play-
Downtown LA
Avatar 2:55pm coelacanth∅:

there used to be a beat up, out of tune piano at my favorite pub. that was sometimes lovely. much more often it was some asshole trying to play over what the jukebox was already playing.
  2:56pm rw:

chresti, I think I've hit a note or two on that thing. Never actually played it though. My mom has a piano at her house with my sister's name scratched into it.
  2:57pm another_rose-in-bloom:

love this
  2:57pm john rogers:

the venue is spelled IBEAM not IBEAN fyi
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:58pm chresti:

It's spring here as soon as it stops raining.
rw, I pick tunes out, once in a while. Mostly finding notes and sounds.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:00pm fred:

Years ago, the city government of Paris put upright pianos in the streets for people to play. They quickly were smashed and/or set to fire
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:01pm chresti:

...patterns, oh no @fred
Avatar 3:03pm coelacanth∅:

my mother played 2 songs only, as i remember it. wagon wheels and malagueña, which seemed to me to be very well executed. she generally only played them after saying "you better be finished eating by the time i'm done playing!"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:05pm chresti:

Do you think residents within earshot got annoyed by the piano racket?
coel, did you tell her you were so entranced by her magnificent playing, you forgot to eat?
Avatar 3:06pm Franco Twinkie:

Rw, no offense taken. Chili? Great idea! Every think is here and ready to go.
Avatar 3:07pm Dave Sewelson:

THanks John and Fred for the tech help
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:08pm chresti:

Sounds good this music.
Avatar 3:10pm Dave Sewelson:

All the music is unreleased and looking for a home
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:10pm fred:

@chresti: No, just some drunk guys venting on something that they didn't understand. I saw a few piano destruction "parties", the culprits were what you'd call frat guys (we don't have fraternities over here, but we sure have the assholes). Of course the powers that be blamed muslims out to wage war on music
Avatar 3:12pm Franco Twinkie:

Coel, Thanks for posting that Gary Larson cartoon, it gave me another great idea. Later I will watch The Crawling Eye. A great piece of sci-fi monster trash that was a Saturday afternoon ritual from my childhood. And with cornbread and chili? Fuck yeah!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:12pm chresti:

Calling Ridgewood Radio..
Avatar 3:13pm coelacanth∅:

chresti haha! if i could do everything over i'd say that to her.
Avatar 3:15pm david w:

Avatar 3:35pm Jeff Moore:

A bunch of us are lurking and listening.

I may actually even know how many, but I'm not telling.
  3:35pm Doug Schulkind:

Nothing beats live radio. Not one single thing.
Avatar 3:36pm Hams:

right on, doug.
Avatar 3:37pm Franco Twinkie:

Can a gopher substitute for a groundhog? If that is the case, all the gophers in our front yard have drowned in this current rain storm.
Avatar 3:39pm Jeff Moore:

How much ground could a groundhog hog if a groundhog could hog ground?
Avatar 3:40pm coelacanth∅:

haha nice,Jeff!
Avatar 3:42pm Franco Twinkie:

Metric or American standard measurement?
Avatar 3:45pm coelacanth∅:

unfortunately i must depart -in the middle of THIS!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:08pm fred:

Any plans of coming to play in Europe? Like Paris (or Montreuil)
Avatar 4:16pm Dave Sewelson:

Mara is trying....wants a recording in Paris...can you help make it happen>
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:20pm fleep:

Saturated greetings, turbulence aplenty here
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:21pm fred:

No, I'm just a concert-goer, no connections to work. She should check out Instants Chavirés (in Montreuil). They don't pay much, but it's all legit with a contract and all, and they usually host and feed the artists. And they have a Bosendorfer. They're a struggling place though, no way they could pay for airfare. But they could be a stop on a tour (I know it takes many, but one lead can't hurt)

Avatar 4:48pm northguineahills:

Got here for the end!
  4:51pm David J:

Great show, thanks Dave and Mara!
Avatar 4:52pm northguineahills:

I have to admit, Mara is new to me. At least this is archived!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:53pm fred:

Great music again. This show is quickly becoming appointment radio
Avatar 4:53pm Sem:

Yeah ^!
Avatar 4:54pm northguineahills:

It's warm rain here, in FL 21C/71F.
Avatar 4:54pm Jeff Moore:

Fahrenheit is a really dumb temperature scale, but apparently it's a nice musical one!
Avatar 4:56pm northguineahills:

I use Celsius, but the intervals are smaller in Fahrenheit, so, it's easier to get the accurate ambient temperature w/o going to decimals to decide what you need to wear...
Avatar 5:00pm northguineahills:

Awesome thanks, Dave y Mara. Now to make elote Mexicana!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:00pm fred:

@ngh: my rule of thumb is that if water flows, it's not that cold, so leather jacket and T-shirt is enough
Avatar 5:01pm Jeff Moore:

True. C-degrees are fatter – so a thermostat for instance needs to do half-degrees to be completely usable.
Avatar 5:03pm Jeff Moore:

Thanks, Dave and Mara!
Avatar 5:04pm Dave Sewelson`:

Thanks Happy Holidayi!!!
