@dale kinda bummed it wasn't the whole unit, actually. we have one of those home warranties (highly recommend) and the furnace isn't the only system we didn't replace to get the place ready to sell. would've appreciated a new one for $100!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:18pm coelacanth∅:

annie Thanks. i have other obstacles right now.
my living situation will be different before next winter.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:22pm annie:

aahh....hope things work out..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:25pm coelacanth∅:

i did have what was to be a year-round garden here a few years ago, at the community garden. they have an unnecessary rule against gardening in the winter + i failed around late december. i'd made a minimal frame and laid clear plastic sheeting over it; rolled the plastic back every day. i still had plenty of parsely, spinach, kale, lettuce, collards, etc but was working/ using a darkroom in nj and one week i was down there and got offered extra work so i stayed. that would've been okay but it snowed, which mushed everything down; then it warmed up and steamed everything!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:26pm coelacanth∅:

whoa, long post. sorry.
Avatar 4:27pm glenn:

don't cry, scott. it'll be okay.

how was my dingaling chuck berry's only number one hit... doesn't make sense on at least two levels
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:36pm Scott Williams:

a lot of these songs were my earliest awareness of music on the radio. I didn't like the radio for a long time!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:37pm queems:

@queems, right?? reissued to try again, just like Styx's "Lady" a few years later
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:40pm coelacanth∅:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:40pm Kudubundu:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:42pm coelacanth∅:

annie (@4.35) i didn't think they were; but apparently the garden board did. i eventually got kicked out. (which i would've prevailed on had i fought it, but it was about time i got some other things done)

  5:10pm Brian in New Orleans:

how about the "Winter Song"...by Angel
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:14pm coelacanth∅:

"Being Happy All the Time Would Be Extremely Depressing" makes as much sense as "heaven would be boring". (in other words, it's a stupid thing to say)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:15pm chresti:

The power keeps going out, it's very windy...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:16pm !ke:

Uh oh, it got so windy that the playlist went out!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:17pm !ke:

Never mind, optical illusion. Or it's my brain that went out.
  5:24pm phillippe bastille:

@annie it's been 31 yrs of marriage so I kinda think I got what I got, if you know what i mean
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:26pm ɨkɛlan Wattz:

Happy/depressing, heaven/hell... yin/yang? Don't you need the darkness in order to be able to see light? Or is heaven a place where you can always see and remember the darkness in the distance but remain in light forever? Is that even possible? Is heaven where you become a happy, well-watered houseplant?
Avatar 5:28pm fred:

@Ike: In heaven, everything is fine
  5:29pm Ven:

everyone leaves the party at exactly the same time
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:32pm coelacanth∅:

Eek, i wouldn't (& didn't) say i'd want everything to go my way always. i'm personally pro-risk & pro-occasional tragedy - if you will believe that. but if you were always happy then you'd always be happy. you wouldn't care about the yin/yang dynamic.
if heaven was boring then it wouldn't be heaven. if hell was fun it wouldn't be hell.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:32pm annie:

i can dig it phillipe, make it another 30!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:37pm coelacanth∅:

...in other words, yes you do need the dark to have the light. it is impossible to be happy all the time. you could conceivably be comfortable all the time; or "content", but that's not happiness.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:38pm coelacanth∅:

(but for the record i don't believe in "heaven" and "hell", as afterlife situations)
  5:40pm Ven:

Has anyone at the station ever done an informal study to see what so-called commercial musical acts have NOT been played once, EVER, by a single dj on WFMU? Like Hootie and the Blowfish or Don Henley ... etc. (I haven't checked these BTW.) I think that would make a fascinating list.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:42pm steveo:

Ven, Google "WFMU advanced playlist search" if you'd like to explore these questions on your own.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:43pm annie:

i love the roller coaster, coel
  5:44pm Ven:

Hootie isn't there, @steveo.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:44pm annie:

and i think this thing is the bardo, we just have radio to get us by
Avatar 5:45pm fred:

But Don Felder is, prominently
  5:45pm Ven:

Don Henley IS there!!!!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:46pm Webhamster Henry:

I'm a friend of Shana's and am in the video for Cool Kids.
  5:46pm phillippe bastille:

Alex lahey is becoming kinda big in Australia (been told 2nd hand) and I dont think she's ever been played on fmu
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:47pm Webhamster Henry:

She just painted some new supergraphics over at bsp (Kingston's well-known music venue).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:48pm zpulpa:

hmmm the accumulative malaise of "fineness" can be a kind of resistance to the flux of the human tendency to swim around in a spectrum of being, to require longing and fantasy. Sometimes an "okay" thing can become terrible if one isn't honest with the dreams that are kept at bay by resisting to soar off into a heaven on earth, the risk of course is the crash to the other side of whatever spectrum is calling. the roller coaster! thats it! the wave, the rhythm, the music, the dance! hmmm im almost off work and am anticipating catching to bus in the freezing cold, should i get take out or make a burrito with whats in the fridge?i wonder
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:48pm annie:

what a great show today scott!
  5:48pm Ven:

Perhaps he was enjoyed ironically ... .
Avatar 5:49pm fred:

@Webhamster Henry: Is that the video with the bikes?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:50pm Webhamster Henry:

@fred - yep . Bikes and hair dryers! I'm on one of the bikes.
  5:50pm Ven:

Yeah, sorry Scott.
I am enjoying the show as well. ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:50pm coelacanth∅:

annie i don't always love it! i appreciate it but too often now the lows are almost unbareable (sp?) and % of the time exceed the highs.

but the bardo is not so dissimilar to the zodiak belief, that we must go through each one to learn specific lessons.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:51pm Scott Williams:

Henry: nice! Annie: thanks! Ven: it can be really difficult to tell what plays on FMU actually mean, hahaaa.... artists you may not expect turn up in mixes, or Kenny G plays them to hurt you, or... a million other things
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:51pm ɨkɛ:

@steveo & @Ven, that only tells you 99% of what's played on the station. The 1% that screws it up is Jones & X-Ray, who don't keep playlists and ironically are perhaps also the most likely to have played Hootie and the Blowfish, or at least something equally wretched. Is Hootie the yang? Do we need Hootie, and/or Don Felder, be able to appreciate real music?
  5:52pm phillippe bastille:

great show today Scott. fun board too. bye everyone, stay warm
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:52pm coelacanth∅:

and, that hootie and the blowfish has never (since around 2000 anyway) been played on wfmu makes this day just a little bit better!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:52pm steveo:

I'm sure there are many surprises. But I'm not surprised about Hootie.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:53pm steveo:

Ike, true. Also pre 2000 or whatever is a long time
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:53pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Swag For Life Member 5:54pm bleubombersune:

A Glorious and Cataclysmic Show
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:55pm ɨkɛ:

OTOH Jones & X-Ray haven't really done so much of the "intentionally terrible music" thing since the 90s or maybe early 00s, back when they used to be more blatantly macho and talked about pro wrestling and played Tone Loc and popular music a lot. (Also Stan didn't keep playlists until a certain point but I'm sure he never played "terrible" music.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:55pm coelacanth∅:

-if it has been played on a record with the hole off center i'm okay with it.
  5:57pm John from Florham Park:

How come joes does not have a playlist
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:58pm coelacanth∅:

Stan plays pretty much ONLY good music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:58pm Linda Lee:

hello! is WIlliam Tyler a scientologist? is this common knowledge?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:58pm Scott Williams:

Thanks everybody! See you next week, when my live guest will be this guy here, amazing guitarist William Tyler!
  5:58pm John from Florham Park:

I meant jones who does not have a playlist
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:59pm Linda Lee:

a few shows don't run a playlist. jonesy doesn't; i don't think mr sarge does either
  5:59pm yippie:

I graffitied a scientology church
Avatar 5:59pm Jeff Moore:

Thanks, Scott! Great show!
  5:59pm yippie:

it was a celebrity center church actually
  5:59pm Ven:

I just got curious after hearing another dj ponder the same question with a specific group in mind. It's all good to me!
