this debussy is so beautiful, so summer-like...for some strange reason now it feels so much more intense, or this piece specifically, then some other pieces, or what i used to think of him (as light and happy). this G minor quartet is light but also melancholy so it's more. such a nice way to begin the program!

When I was living in NYC going to Cooper Union I took out a girl on a first date to see Diamonds Galas at The Cathedral of St. John the Divine. It was 1991. Wow. She insisted on walking out. It was a bit much for me too. i think D. Galas is a witch. I group her with Psychic TV and Fields of The Nephilim as music I will not listen to any more due to their world view.

@Jake Gould-I was famous for bad decisions in the 90's. Today, the decision seems pretty epic failure. She DID say that opera was an apocalyptic act and I HAVE heard some D Galas from my roommate Egg who seemed to like it, so I said "hey, wanna see this OTHER apocalyptic singer? By NO means was I a fan, I just HEARD of her. Pretty dumb of me, I know.

Good Afternoon, Kurt and everyone!
loving the raga . . .
@ Michael 98145 -- i used to be able to volunteer at the Chhandayan All-Night concerts -- so wonderfully BLISSFUL!
i would have been so totally impressed if someone had taken me to *that* Diamanda Galas event at St. John's -- but hey, that is just *me*
i met Ms. Galas some years later, when i was working at Tower Books -- i thought she looked familiar, but then finally realized it WAS her when she came up to the register and i saw her hand tattoos . . . and she was so super sweet! shook my hand (as i am thinking -- "wait a minute, YOU are the famous person, i should be shaking YOUR hand!" hah!), was saying how much she liked the store (had had to leave with a friend earlier but then came back), was impressed with the selection, etc. . . . :)

The Oscar:

Tuning in late, but GOD I miss Kim's-- it used to be an essential part of any NY visit for me. One of my most cherished finds was a DVD-R containing two of the old FMU "Irritainment" specials, along with Harvey Sid Fisher's "Songs of the Zodiac" and a bunch of other gold. Just about anyone who's been in my apartment more than once in the past dozen years or so has been subjected to some or all of that disc.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:59pm

To be honest, I have mixed feels about Kim’s since I knew a few people who were screwed over by Kim’s in different ways over the years. I’m generally happier that the Internet exists and lots of obscure stuff is a available for streaming and download much quicker—and sometimes better quality—than scoring some 7th generation VHS dub from Kim’s.
