Sounds from the archive of the future, sonic drilling into the past, dissonant rumbling, lyrical melodies, noises (human, animal, mechanical, digital) inscrutable yet honest, desultory but consistent.

Dzień dobry; dobrý deň

ZUP!
Avatar 3:11pm Chris from DC:

This Donato Dozzy still makes me think of the beginning of "You Shouldn't Do That".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:11pm BronwynB:

hey david and everyone :)
Avatar 3:13pm Inner Ear Detour:

Good afternoon, folks
Avatar 3:13pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

i can absolutely hear that, sir toad.
Avatar 3:14pm Lixiviated Life:

but... Failure ?
Avatar 3:15pm coelacanth∅:

greetings David and Inner Ear Failures

"Strength Through Detour": I like it!

Is it just me or are there not as many road detours as there used to be?
Avatar 3:22pm the Canterbury wood-elf:

I love what KAS does, but found that last album a bit too vocal-oriented for my tastes... if anyone prefers her instrumental work, there's this rather wonderful new online release: kaitlynaureliasmith.bandcamp.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:23pm crateslinger:

Queens if all road detours everywhere.
Avatar 3:24pm the Canterbury wood-elf:

When I first moved to Belgium, I often saw road signs saying "Wegomlegging", with an arrow. I spent a few weeks wondering what, and where, this "wegomlegging" was. I later found out it meant "detour".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:24pm crateslinger:

is... Queens is all road detours everywhere. I'm all thumvs.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:24pm sphere:

@Chris from DC - did you go to 1000 Roses?
Avatar 3:25pm coelacanth∅:

it's just you IkE.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:26pm Michael 98145:

thanx. i actually like the KAS vocal work, too ..
Avatar 3:27pm coelacanth∅:

lots of detours by me. if there are no signs for them, i take them anyway.
Avatar 3:28pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Driving from Tucson into Mexico, through Nogales to points beyond, the first word of Mexican spanish one learns is desviación (detour) ... the old road to Puerto Peñasco has seen better days...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:28pm WillCrete:

Good afternoon. That Matteo Liberatore was really thrilling. Digging the shifting/ blurring of density and texture in it, hanging right there on the edge.
Avatar 3:28pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

I think that road was built by the US Army during WWII and probably hadn't been maintained since.
Avatar 3:29pm βrian:

Miso soup and strong decoctions of ginger, Fabio.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:30pm Michael 98145:

wanna see some horrible roads? take a look at what the folks on the north shore of Kaua'i are dealing with this week.
#sad
Avatar 3:30pm coelacanth∅:

i'm not fond of being over the weather. if flying on the ground is wrong then i'm sorry to let you down.
Avatar 3:31pm Chris from DC:

Sphere, yeah I caught most of the public events at 1000 Roses. Really dug Joseph Allred and David Shapiro on Friday and Dylan Aycock on Saturday.
  3:31pm MayorFrank:

Hi
Avatar 3:31pm coelacanth∅:

a 16 rpm record? then they assumed ets are not audiophiles?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:32pm sphere:

@Chris from DC - I went to 70% of the festival or so and my main takeaway is George Stavis (amazing 60s banjo player with a nifty cover of Coltrane's My Favorite Things).
Avatar 3:34pm Chris from DC:

Nice. A good portion of the fest is archived on KFJC I think. I have to see if they have that set.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:35pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Just burrowed in via the eustachian tube. Did I detour correctly?
Avatar 3:35pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

@Michael 9.8: Kauai flooding? Please let Tiki Iniki still stand strong. A surreal joy was having Todd Rundgren's better half sining "happy birthday to you" for the missus while we gathered strong beverages upon us...
Avatar 3:37pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

& that place is way up north..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:39pm Michael 98145:

@Rev, yup, Hanalei is suffering right now.
  3:39pm Gus S:

Hey! Just happened to go to the site and lo and behold...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:39pm Wendy del Formaggio:

Yay! I just came online to listen to the radio, and here's Inner Ear Detour!
Avatar 3:40pm coelacanth∅:

Ken,as long as you didn't breathe in any mucous.
...does that make you part of the tubeway army?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:41pm Michael 98145:

- irony note, Iniki is a reference to the hurricane that wiped out the southern part of kaua'i back in the 90s -
Avatar 3:41pm Inner Ear Detour:

Nice to see you Wendy! Welcome Gus...and everyone
Avatar 3:44pm coelacanth∅:

i thought iniki was a type of mushroom.
-maybe not.
Avatar 3:45pm coelacanth∅:

oh...enoki?
never mind.
Avatar 3:48pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

True; I recall her telling us about that storm, which sounded like quite a thing...

Also: the new road that crosses the middle of the island yielded the best, most clear night-sky viewing ever seen. Positively psychedelic.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:52pm Wendy del Formaggio:

Bohannon, Bohannon, Bohannon, Bohannon.
Avatar 3:53pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

whoa, this Bohannon thing. Not familiar. At first, sounded like a subterranean funked-out cover of Can 'don't turn on the light/leave me alone' .. that opening ..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:54pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Visited Hawaii in January one year and spent the night in the cabin on Mauna Loa. Went outside to find the restroom at night and noticed that the stars weren't twinkling. I wish I would've spent more time looking up, but I was really cold. (Who brings a warm jacket to Hawaii?)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:56pm BronwynB:

"think" in...what, finnish?
Avatar 3:57pm Wilson K:

NO CHRISTMAS CAROLS OUT OF SEASON
Avatar 3:57pm Wilson K:

Aggggh now it's in my head
Avatar 4:01pm coelacanth∅:

i thought it was "freedom" (in i don't know what language)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:02pm chris:

i believe a lot of these records on Breaking the Ice are in Icelandic.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:05pm BronwynB:

@coel: i meant that it was a cover of think
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:06pm chris:

video excerpt from the Breaking the Ice documentary was on this Put the Needle On The Record episode from a few weeks back - www.wfmu.org...
Avatar 4:08pm coelacanth∅:

Bronwyn, the JB song right? i'm moving in & out of the room and didn't hear it all but i thought i heard the George Michael song. i didn't realise it was a medley when i posted that.
Avatar 4:10pm coelacanth∅:

...i should shut up. i've been eating espresso truffles instead of working.
Avatar 4:10pm northguineahills:

I have a box set of Jaques Tati soundtracks..... (apropos of nothing else).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:10pm BronwynB:

@coel: actually the aretha song- and sorry, i was confused because one of the main lyrics of the original version of Think is just "freedom, freedom, freedom" so i thought you were referencing that
  4:11pm βrian:

@coel: We call those vitamins.
  4:11pm Elena:

Hey David! Tuning in from Montreal. Good to hear you DJing live
Avatar 4:12pm βrian:

I just saw Monsieur Hulot slip around the corner.
Avatar 4:13pm geezerette:

The French Nino Rota.
Avatar 4:13pm βrian:

@Elena: Please send bagels.
Avatar 4:13pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

please email those truffles here immediately.
Avatar 4:14pm βrian:

I turned a French friend on to Colette. That was fun.
Avatar 4:15pm geezerette:

Loving the show,David.
Hello all. :)

Brian, Love Colette, whatta Dame.
  4:16pm Elena:

@βrian: Sure, Fairmount bagels are just around the corner here :) Nice to hear French film-themed music today
Avatar 4:17pm coelacanth∅:

Bronwyn now i'm even more confused! i was imagining it in Aretha's voice but in the melody of the George Michael "freedom"; and i can't imagine the rest of the song now...and i always thought Aretha's "think" was a cover of the James Brown "think" but now i realise it's not the same song at all.
- i need more "vitamins".
Avatar 4:18pm coelacanth∅:

now we're rolling.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:19pm BronwynB:

now im picturing a wonderful universe of aretha franklin covering george michael songs in finnish
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:20pm Rich in Washington:

oh my god...
Avatar 4:20pm northguineahills:

Love me some Davy Graham!
Avatar 4:22pm northguineahills:

I was wondering what Phaedra would sound like in Cantonese.
Avatar 4:22pm northguineahills:

(the word)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:22pm Rich in Washington:

singing this song with one voice makes the singer sound rather schizophrenic.
Avatar 4:22pm coelacanth∅:

haha nice Bronwyn -with the i threes singing backup?
Avatar 4:24pm Hannah:

This is giving really giving voice to my internal monologue
Avatar 4:25pm Hannah:

*really giving, rather
Avatar 4:26pm northguineahills:

@Rich: Slowdive's "Some Velvet Morning" is dominated the whole song w/ the male vocals in the forefront.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:27pm Rich in Washington:

I've always been fond of Blixa's rendition. At least he attempts to adjust his gender between high-pitched screeches.
Avatar 4:28pm coelacanth∅:

the sun is feebly trying to slice a window through the wall of cloud and i'm off to take advantage of those potential rays. (and put the espresso truffles to good use) Thanks David. tchau camaradas
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:32pm steveo:

hello, David; pleasure to be listening
Avatar 4:35pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Sneeches get screeches.
Avatar 4:37pm northguineahills:

@David: I missed your theme song, but Mary Wing played it on GTDS stream yesterday.... :)

The original and three covers all the way through.
Avatar 4:40pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

dig.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:40pm chris:

i likey this Mikey! synthy fun!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:43pm BronwynB:

i like to think connie converse and jim sullivan found each other, fell in love and lived out the rest of their days in a cabin in the mountains making music together
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:44pm BronwynB:

hey you live in philly? im from philly!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:46pm Michael 98145:

and i actually like philly -
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:47pm steveo:

i'm from Delaware, which is like Philly, only Delawareyer
Avatar 4:49pm Inner Ear Detour:

BronwynB:I love this Connie Converse/Jim Sullivan fantasy. May they live on in anonymity!
