A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Alice Coltrane carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:02am Trouble:

good morning thursdayers! don't you love the new discovery of putting the artists's name next to the artwork at the top of the page? thanks to joe McGasko for that tip!
Avatar 9:02am TDK60:

Morning Trouble. I have a day off so can spend some time here. // Linda L., howdy.
Avatar 9:03am Linda Lee:

@TDK60 ~ morning! :-)
Avatar 9:03am TDK60:

Constellation Records in Montreal is an admirable outfit.
Avatar 9:04am Linda Lee:

love the fact that this track was *not* what i thought it was off the bat ~ a Nina Simone remix.
  9:04am Emily:

Hello Trouble! Happy to hear you while I’m painting.
Avatar 9:04am TDK60:

Apparently Chenaux likes the "whammy bar" on everything? I heard another Chenaux cut on WFMU days ago in which the sounds were wobbly too.

Avatar 9:08am Linda Lee:

how beautifully this set fits the weather so far here in ulster county. grey, misty, subtle color just breaking through the winter palette.
  9:08am kevlicki:

Morning trouble and all
@TDK60 I haven’t had the chance to listen to the Efrim Meunick solo album out on. Constellation, you?
I love the GY!BE and related acts
Avatar 9:10am TDK60:

Kevlicki: Oh, a solo Efrim M. LP? Hmmm. Godspeed does play some Big music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:10am Trouble:

second pink cd of the day, if you're keeping track colorwise

I was expecting John Allen. my days are all mixed up.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:11am Brian in UK:

Hello Trouble. Sunshine and Showers over here, along with cherry blossoms and daffodils.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:11am northguineahills:

Trouble should curate an art gallery. (she already does an amazing job curating a radio show!).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:12am Brian in UK:

T C Cannon follows T C Boyle in the artistic alphabet.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:17am Adrian in London:

Hello all. Sounds great. Too busy to chat today but listening happily…
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:17am Trouble:

i used to enjoy tc boyle. 'east is east' is a great ripping apart of art colonies. i am looking forward to seeing the TC cannon show at Peabody Essex museum this weekend

Does anyone know what The Met will charge a non-NYC visitor for admission into their museums? (MET, Cloisters, MET Breuer)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:18am Ken From Hyde Park:

Hello. I wonder, what's the equivalent of the Bandcamp website, but for visual artists?
Avatar 9:18am Lixiviated Life:

AND how strict are they about proving residency?
Avatar 9:19am themutante:

Sounds like Jonsi.
Avatar 9:20am Linda Lee:

LL ~ i haven't done my home town museums in a while, but i can't remember any ID check whatsoever. it was always an honor thing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:20am bore:

@ken, maybe checkout deviantart.com?
  9:20am kevlicki:

TDK60, yeah and while looking at the touring acts on constellation I noticed Efrim will be performing at Union Pool this summer-good if yer in NY
Thankfully I got to catch GOdspeed in philly a couple weeks back! They’re really supportive of lefty causes and let me fable for my orgs
  9:22am kevlicki:

@LL I just heard the met was doing that now. Shameful.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:23am northguineahills:

@LL: It's suggested donation every time I've gone to any of the affiliated museums. I felt guilty when I was unemployed just throwing a few bucks their way, but it worked. (last year there was no residency requirement).
  9:23am Berndo411:

Avatar 9:23am TDK60:

LixLife: The main Met museum I think is a donation of whatever you want. But if you wanna see a new, special exhibit you gotta pay the high price. Don't know about Cloisters.
  9:24am Neil M:

Outstanding set to kick it off! Curatioooooonnnnnnnnnnnnn

@Lixivated-I would give $0.25 when I went when I was a hungry student back in the 90's. It is a SUGGESTED donation.
Avatar 9:31am Linda Lee:

important to remember that the more wealthy museum patrons will cover for you if you can't give very much. that's the whole idea of subsidies for public art. feel no shame. go see the work.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:31am sphere:

hello peops
Avatar 9:31am themutante:

Crackin' opening, Trubz!
Avatar 9:32am Linda Lee:

at least it's not snowing!
Swag For Life Member 9:33am The Hip Replacement:

I thought pink was the color today. Color-wise.
Avatar 9:33am Linda Lee:

pink & grey ~ not bad.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:34am Brian in UK:

Similar in London, most galleries are free but exhibitions cost and then some. This Monet is £20 weekdays and £22 weekends.
Avatar 9:34am TDK60:

The Met has something you might not expect, a rare/old musical instruments room (might be closed for repairs right now).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:35am Brian in UK:

In the land of grey and pink. Oh no.
Avatar 9:35am jdaFromCologne:

hey trouble, i really like hearing your voice… speciaily when laughing
Avatar 9:35am Scraps h’m (h’m):

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:36am steveo:

is that (friedlander) considered "classical"? does wfmu have a classical program? (there's none that I'm aware of)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:36am steveo:

i listen to wqxr sometimes (rarely) but everything sounds better on wfmu...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:36am sphere:

ohhh, Vashti Bunyan!
Avatar 9:37am TDK60:

steveo: WFMU used to have "A440, Stochastic Hit Parade" w/DJ Bethany in the recent past. Not on-air right now. But archives exist. Great show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:38am steveo:

thanks tdk -- i shall!
Avatar 9:39am TDK60:

And Gaylord Fields played a great little Igor Stravinsky piece the other night (Sun.) and some Milhaud. // I want A440 back on-air, if possible.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:41am Brian in UK:

@steveo here is the link to Bethany's show. Freeform classical?
  9:41am kevlicki:

LL I’ve always enjoyed the subsidized/pay what you wish fee and give 50cents, I feel no shame and appreciate the ability of seeing what my British friends call the “thievery” in the museum.

I just looked at the Met’s website
“For New York State residents as well as New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut students, the amount you pay is up to you.”

We accept many forms of residency verification, including:

New York State driver's license
New York State identification card
Current bill or statement with a New York State address
Student ID
New York library card
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:42am Devin B.:

Bob Brainen plays some classical. Ives and Satie, in particular. I'd love to see A440 back on the schedule too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:42am steveo:

Seems like a good thing, TDK & Brian. I like the title.
  9:45am exile-on-hicks-st:

@LL thanks for the checkin. It’s nothing dire. I’m not dying, I mean, no more than any of us are. Internal-life / emotional stuff. I’m a mess.
  9:45am kevlicki:

Did anyone get out to the Bing and Ruth show in Brooklyn on Tuesday?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:45am Barney Grubbs:

A440 was great (and nobody else in the house complained when I played it at dinner time)
Avatar 9:51am Linda Lee:

i'm sorry exile. hope you can move through it soon.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:51am ⓔⓘⓚ:

Ugh, bad commute today. WTC PATH was shut down for a while due to a "small electrical fire." Something welding-related. Weld better, Port Authority!
Avatar 9:51am Chris from DC:

This is interesting. Nice to see Ba Da Bing is still putting stuff out.
Avatar 9:52am Linda Lee:

@kevlicki ~ i remember no checkpoints for ID. are they there now?
Avatar 9:52am βrian:

Well, this is nice.
Avatar 9:53am TDK60:

Trouble, you're creating a "vibe." It may be deliberate.
Avatar 9:54am Linda Lee:

i'd like hearing A440 again too.
Avatar 9:57am TDK60:

Don't know why A440 ended, but the Archive shows that she did it from 2001 - 2017!
  9:58am Leelee:

1) Leelee likes Lau Nau; 2) Really like any Amor de Dias song! I was thinking about The Clientele earlier this a.m. so this is a nice treat :)
  9:58am kevlicki:

Linda lee- everyone has to “pay” and get an entrance sticker to go into the exhibition halls. I haven’t been since last year. I thought I heard their policy was changing to start charging all non NYers but I guess Tristan’s folks are NYers too
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:01am ⓔⓚⓔⓔ:

@TDK, not all of that is actually A440; some of it was her excellent free-form show Stochastic Hit Parade. Sometimes newer show titles will weirdly overwrite older show titles, or in her case the two titles somehow got melded together. But they were 2 different shows.
Avatar 10:01am TDK60:

Didn't know that out-of-NY State, NJ, CT folks have to pay full Met price.
Avatar 10:02am TDK60:

Oh, it shows that I haven't looked that far back yet. Now am even more curious.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:02am ⓔⓚⓔⓔ:

The out-of-state Met pricing is new, I believe. They wanted to make everybody pay full price but IIRC the city and/or the state threatened funding if they went through with that.
Avatar 10:03am βrian:

What, NJ and CT aren't in NY? That's an awfully fine-grained concept.
Avatar 10:04am βrian:

Loves those "notes aigues."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:05am ⓔⓘⓘⓘⓘⓚ:

One example of the weird show title overwriting in old FMU schedules: John Allen's show had no title in 2001 but here it says it was "JA in the AM" even though it wasn't on in the AM! He didn't start using that title until recently. Revisionist history! Some kind of weird HTML coding error in the schedules: wfmu.org...
Avatar 10:05am TDK60:

Looks like Bethany went more classical round Dec. 2011.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:05am steveo:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:06am Ken From Hyde Park:

There's an art show right in Monty Hall on April 14th. montyhall.ticketfly.com... A mere $5.00 at the door.
Avatar 10:06am themutante:

That's Finland for ya.
Avatar 10:06am Linda Lee:

@kevlicki ~ yes i do remember the pay booths. don't remember being asked for ID to prove residency ~ but it has been a long time.
Avatar 10:08am Linda Lee:

@eik ~ happy to note 'welding' issue does not have 'knife' attached.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:16am Lewis:

I wonder if entrance revenues will actually go up at the Met as people who would have paid something will now not go at all? (we could model that!) (and of course that begs the question as to why there is not more gov't support for instinstitutionsutitinos like the Met)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:16am Mark Hurst:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:24am Asheville Jon:

well Chris, they did better than the Phils last year. i'm just hoping the Phils don't end up in last place in the majors. they spent most of last season there, but pulled it out in the last week.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:34am Brian in UK:

Steve Smith's weak leadership brought this to a head. Now the coach has resigned.
Probably because it started as a Commonwealth sport it does not attract ESPN's radar and ofcourse a Test Match can last FIVE days. With peoples attention spans decreasing this limits exposure. It has it over football (soccer) any day.
Though ESPN does have the Cricinfo site.

@Anthony Most resources I've seen peg the cutoff around '80-'82, which would put my 1984 birthday squarely on the other side. At any rate, I was definitely young enough in the '90s that "Gen X" seemed like a scary, older "other." I've read arguments that my cohort is a distinct "Generation Y" (mostly predicated on remembering pre-internet times), but again, it seems silly to split hairs when it comes to vast generalizations. (And my first album was "Weird Al" Yankovic's "Alapalooza," if you're curious :)
