So great to hear this.♥ 1:50pm : Another Frank fill-in -- cool!1:51pm : I'm stoned, smoking an Export A, in my dorm room at UC Santa Cruz, looking out a rain drenched window on the 3rd floor. Hendrix playing. What a brilliant time it was.♥ 1:53pm : love the jimi, great show as usual!1:53pm : Hard to even imagine, let alone name a better side 3.♥ 1:54pm : ...agrees with the above wholeheartedly ..1:59pm : Frank, I can't tell you how many rainy afternoons I've spent listening to this while under the influence of some chemical or other. With Hendrix I always felt safe, no matter how effed-up I was. Thank you for the memories!♥ 2:04pm : Hi, Frank. Thanks for the fill-in today.2:07pm : @hicks st I agree2:11pm : Hendrix smells like fringed leather, cigs, and unwashed hair (that of my best friend’s boyfriend that I had a crush on).2:14pm : I'm back in Ridgewood Park 19692:17pm : Beck doesn't get near enough airplay on FMU. #BringIt2:18pm : @KH: I second that!2:19pm : Beck doesn't get enough airplay ANYWHERE.2:20pm : Yay, Mahavishnu....I'm guitargasming with Hendrix, Beck, McLaughlin...whew!♥ 2:21pm : I think I saw Mahavishnu on that tour - in Hackensack, of all places.2:21pm : Throw in some Coryell....or Steve Morse! :)♥ 2:21pm : Howdy Mr. O'Toole. Damnnnn! Jimi, Beck's Bolero, and Mahavishnu. You'se got my vote, Frank.2:22pm : I saw Jeff Beck, the Mahavishnu Orchestra and Frank Zappa...amazing show, Waterbury CT Palace Theater, 1970s2:23pm : And tickets were like $5.50!2:23pm : Only on the mighty WFMU can I hear Lauryn Hill, XTC and MAHAVISHNU freaking Orchestra in the same set! ha ha2:23pm : I'm olllldddddd.....2:24pm : Quite the line up Brian. Never had the pleasure of seeing MO. And the price could not be beat!♥ 2:24pm : Ma. Ha. Fucking. Vishnu!2:25pm : First time I caught JB was at Palladium in lower Manhattan. Live with Jan Hammer supporting Wired.
With Heart as an opening act!♥ 2:25pm : One of my first concerts was Mahavishnu, Blue Oyster Cult, and the Byrds- StonyBrook- early '70s...Not a bad start!2:26pm : What the hell is wrong with my radio, it's playing good music for a change.
Then I hear who it is. Yay, MUSIC.
Frank, come back, do a regular show where, like in the olden days, the DJ weaves an ambiance by simply playing some of the terrific things that have been recorded over the last hundred or so years. So many great sounds, so little time. So refreshing to hear the disc jockey whipping that musical horse. Thank you Frank O'Toole!♥ 2:26pm : I saw the MVO over and over again, up to an including the first tour they did without the original line-up. On that tour, they were double-headlining with -- ta da! -- the Jeff Beck Group.2:26pm : I interview Hammer on WHUS and then years later on WCCC, way cool guy...first saw him with MO and later solo at the Shaboo Inn in Willimantic CT late 1970s. Amazing times! Now I DDJ on WWUH in Hartford and play lotsa this stuff...and I've been a huge fan of WFMU...if I lived in NJ I'd voilunteer!2:26pm : jazz fusion on wfmu - awesome2:27pm : Frank is kicking asse! Streaming this at work in Ellington, CT♥ 2:31pm : Been sitting here thinking about why the MVO holds up so well when a lot of jazz fusion from the 70s, uh, doesn't. Got to be the sheer intensity of it.2:35pm : I met and interviewed all of the original MO guys at one time or another for WHUS, WCCC, and WBAB, and the thing that struck me was that they were all happy, friendly, peaceful and serene type cats...and not druggies like too many other intense musicians2:37pm : WOW! I hope yer back for good! Miss hearing you all these years!♥ 2:38pm : Dead Set!2:39pm : oooh this brings me back♥ 2:40pm : have not heard jane's addiction in too long♥ 2:41pm : a bit of "The Other One" quote...2:41pm : excellent tunes. very unique dead cover2:43pm : I liked that Ripple.2:43pm : That is why I loved the 90's. I have the whole decade on cassette.2:43pm : The Bobs Golden Road, that is.♥ 2:47pm : What a great show! Thanks Frank!2:48pm : thanks Frank you must be as old as me♥ 2:49pm : Seriously diggin' today's show....thanks Frank.2:50pm : Great set (and show), thanks Frank!
I miss Henry Kaiser, is he still active?2:51pm : thanks y'all. got to hear from you, I'll Be Back, one of these days.♥ 2:51pm : FXO we miss ya! Gotta do this wayyyy more often. Marvelous shew.♥ 2:54pm : Bye, Frank. Sorry I only caught the last hour, but it was a great hour. Hope to see you during 'thon.♥ 2:55pm : what KevinfromBayRidge said♥ 2:55pm : Kevn, just saw yours at 2:25. Funny thing; my friends who hated fusion and loved hard rock always held up BUC as everything the Mahavishnu wasn't.2:58pm : THANKS FRANK♥ 2:58pm : Thanks Frank - super show!♥ 2:58pm : Really enjoyed the show!♥ 2:59pm : Nod to Nightbird?♥ 3:00pm : @Parq, I was, even at that tender age, more into MVO than BOC.♥ 3:02pm : thank you!5:52pm : Wow. Love the God Only Knows mashup.
