"I was sad when I tuned in late & missed Roy Ayers, but immediately gladdened by Ray Barretto"~ (unattributed)
Avatar 9:25am fm Mike:

Are they singing about a cat?
I hear "gato".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:27am Smilty69:

How awesome is this: I'm listening to Marty McSorley in Medellin!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:28am Itzall Ablurr:

Fairly certain I would pick this one (Anan) up for the "cover art" alone.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:31am Passaic River Blues:

Wow, I had no idea there was a Flavor Unit take on "Fame". Awesome.
  9:34am Mott:

this version is an abomination...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:34am steveo:

Genesis week continues!
Avatar 9:35am V Priceless:

ha - cool Genesis cut! Hey!
Avatar 9:42am fm Mike:

This piano riff is awesome.
Avatar 9:43am fm Mike:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:49am adampsyche:

i had to step out of the shower to get that song name.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:49am MD:

Hey is That Will Farrell on that record!?!?!
Avatar 9:50am fm Mike:

lmao @ adampsyche that's awesome.
  9:50am Don S:

Classic Nina, the first album of hers I heard.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:50am MD:

LOL! Good Morning all You Merry Pranksters!!!
Avatar 9:53am Sem Chumbo:

Morning, Marty, McSorleys. Still bruised from last week, but ready for more and more hits.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:56am steveo:

ha; i'm wearing everlast headgear, just in case
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:58am steveo:

Hard to believe the original came out in 1966 also. Hard also to not compare it to Los Beatles, who were doing much less complicated stuff at the time..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:59am steveo:

(signed, king obvious)
Avatar 10:00am Waking Bacon:

I turned it up just when he told me too. I'm dialed in.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:00am Ken From Hyde Park:

"Paint It Black" could easily be one of Rob Weisberg's selections for his World Cover bits on Wake 'n' Bake.
  10:00am Andal:

This set is life affirming. the queen latifah was awesome.
Avatar 10:09am fm Mike:

AWwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww sheeeid!
Avatar 10:13am PKNY:

The Midnight Band are on fire on this version of "The Bottle", good call!
  10:23am Brendan:

The bottle ruined me. By that I mean that Hotel Mein Botal song. Every time a sad song or bottle ballad comes on I get that corny song stuck in my ear instead.
  10:25am dug:

that was incredible.
maybe even better than this version:
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:30am Mister Dobalina:

Wow! What an amazing track!!!
Avatar 10:34am Cecile:

Great show, Marty.
I saw Chic/Earth Wind and Fire last night. Unbelievably good.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:36am steveo:

fried neckbones!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:37am Mister Dobalina:

Thanks Cecile! Seems like they will be in my hood in a few daze, imma try and get my stank'n ass in there!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:37am Ken From Hyde Park:

Very nice, Cecile. What venue did they play?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:38am Mister Dobalina:

Xcel Energy Center
Avatar 10:39am Cecile:

Yep! It was really well filled, and such a great crowd.
Avatar 10:39am fm Mike:

Veeery smooth. ^.^
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:40am Mister Dobalina:

They'll be in Queens in 2 days & in early august at MSG
Avatar 10:40am Cecile:

that's one of the best venues ever for a big show. no bad seats, extremely great sound system and crew.
Avatar 10:40am Cecile:

go if you can!
  10:40am neanderthalhead:

Is that Santana?
  10:41am Brendan:

Marty is this Jorge or Carlos?
  10:41am neanderthalhead:

Or shoud I say...Satan?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:42am Itzall Ablurr:

DEVADIP! Has to be.
Avatar 10:42am Marcel M:

Its his younger bro, apparently. According to the internet.
Avatar 10:42am PKNY:

Jorge, according to Discogs --> www.discogs.com...
Avatar 10:43am Marcel M:

Great track
Avatar 10:43am fm Mike:

@ neanderthalhead I think so. The dude in the beginning said "Santana!" and I didn't catch the first name, thought it mighta been someone else, but yeah.

@ Marcel M, are you serious??!?

@ PKNY hmmm
Avatar 10:44am Marty McSorley:

Jorge > Carlos
Avatar 10:44am Cecile:

I will always love Santana for those first three albums.
  10:44am neanderthalhead:

Similar lead sound, for sure.
  10:44am Brendan:

Avatar 10:44am Cecile:

they helped make me the weirdo I am today.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:46am tallbuildings:

I'm digging this Black Heat
  10:47am jess:

what a great playlist this morning. sounds warm and tropical.
Avatar 10:48am Marcel M:

Mario is my favorite Santana.
Avatar 10:49am Marcel M:

Switching to PRS was a bad move for Carlos.
Avatar 10:51am Claw!:

You always get me with the JuanGa, Marty

was bummed to see that I missed Chente at the top of the show
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:55am The Oscar:

Has any artist ever gone so dramatically from one end of the "pop" spectrum to the other? Can we hold out hope that any current pop stars might follow the same path?
Avatar 10:56am PKNY:

Yes, Millie! For those that aren't familiar w/ this, you're in for a treat!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:58am steveo:

I think I figured out who the real culprit is in this song....
Avatar 10:58am Cecile:

Marianne Faithfull made a pretty extreme turn. I can possibly see Gaga going that route.
Avatar 10:58am Marcel M:

That Harlem River Drive cover is amazing.
Avatar 11:02am fm Mike:

Beiber is rumoured to turn Christian in his music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:06am steveo:

what? his parents know about this?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:07am The Oscar:

I remember when that photoshopped pic surfaced of Paris Hilton holding a copy of Trout Mask Replica just before her album came out, and I was REALLY hoping we were about to see an artistic reveal of Andy Kaufman proportions.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:08am steveo:

funky drawers: s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:08am The Oscar:

Also, of current pop stars, Kesha's association with the Residents could be a good sign of things to come...
Avatar 11:11am Marcel M:

Regarding Ke$ha/Residents: "Some fans think its an outrage...Others, like John H. Felix, don’t see a problem. “Fans of a band who have been maniacally appropriating pop culture for their own needs complain about musician appropriating band for her own needs, film at 11,” Felix posted."

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:11am adampsyche:

marty, i'd pay my wash and fold an extra buck a pound if they'd come into my apartment and put it away for me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:12am Tommy in Neversink:

I thought she said ..or sang...something similar to"funky drawers " and FMU was going to be fined thousand's of dollars
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:14am The Oscar:

@Marcel Ha! From what I gather, the Residents (or at least their "representatives") contacted her after that performance and they reconciled-- she even has some talking-head footage in their documentary!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:25am steveo:

is it me, or is one of the worst phrases in rock music "bruce juice"?
Avatar 11:28am Roberto:

Aw hells yeah Thin Lizzy!

Avatar 11:31am Rev. Turnip Druid:

Always wondered if the Jailbreak sleeve art was the work of Barney Bubbles; looks like it... one day will overcome laziness & look it up..
Avatar 11:32am Sem Chumbo:

Nice, nice, nice. Top shelf, Marty. Thanks.
Avatar 11:32am Marty McSorley:

its signed on the bottom left Jim Fitspatrick
Avatar 11:33am Rev. Turnip Druid:

ah! Laziness wins! Thx MMS..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:33am Lewis:

now THAT'S an album cover!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:33am The Oscar:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:35am The Oscar:

i saw Jon-Mikl Thor at the world premiere of the "sequel" to Rock 'n' Roll Nightmare. The movie was terrible (and not fun-terrible like the original), but Thor still had it. He even bent a steel bar on stage with his teeth!
Avatar 11:36am fm Mike:

If that ain't the most manly album cover I don't know what is.
Avatar 11:40am Claw!:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:41am Itzall Ablurr:

fm Mike, I grew a lush beard just from zooming in on that cover. Also, "Thor" sounds 100% unlike what I would expect from the image. More like Roxy Music?
Avatar 11:44am Polyus:

Unleashed In The East was my #1 bedroom air guitar record circa 6th grade.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:44am joe:

I knew about Priest's version of this song long before I was really aware it was a cover and long long long before I knew it was about Dylan. Ever since I learned that the JP version makes me giggle a bit when I hear it.
Avatar 11:47am Polyus:

It's the torch song Rob was born to sing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:54am The Oscar:

@Itzall Agreed, that's much different from anything else I've heard. I mostly know them from Rock & Roll Nightmare, the RIDICULOUS horror movie they made in the '80s. If you haven't seen it, well... youtu.be...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:57am steveo:

thanks marty, very enjoyable show
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:57am Itzall Ablurr:

Thanks The Oscar! I'll check that out for sure.
