A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Alice Coltrane carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

  9:17am sugarwolf:

Happy Unbirthday, Trouble
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:21am Trouble:

my birthday is in july, but thank you sugarwolf
  9:21am sugarwolf:

I went to the Met yesterday and I am not really sure how I feel about all the picture taking. The Irving Penn exhibition was hard to get through because everyone was taking pictures of the pictures!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:22am Trouble:

I told FB that my birthday was in january, since you know I am in the witness protection program. I was always amazed when people wish me well in january. But actually isn't that when we all need well wishes? in the deepest dark of a new year
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:23am Trouble:

it is weird isn't it? when people take pictures of pictures. i am guilty of that some times.
Avatar 9:25am bobdoesthings:

who wants the real experience?! just document the fact that you were there... then post to social media! get likes! feel artificially fulfilled!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:27am Trouble:

it seems the real experience is up for grabs, in that it can be shaped by alternative facts
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:27am Vivian:

Ha,ha. Trouble, I did the same thing for my birthday. It's really in July but I told FB it's in January.
Avatar 9:28am rebuketodali:

This Don Bryant is giving me the nasty funk I needed this morning.
  9:28am sugarwolf:

Oh I do it too sometimes.
Avatar 9:28am bobdoesthings:

whoa... this Don Bryant was released THIS year? ... and this isn't a Daptone production
  9:29am JakeGould:

What movie had “Nickel and a Nail” in it? A Jarmusch film?
Avatar 9:30am bobdoesthings:

whoa so this Don Bryant guy made an album in 1969 and nothing since then.. Fat Possum recs bringing him back.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:31am Pale Son:

I totally do that picture-of-picture-taking. It's because I want to be able to look at them again later and remember the chills they gave me IRL. But I can see how it could get pretty annoying if everyone's doing it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:31am Bronwyn Bishop:

good morning trouble and everyone. guess whose birthday is in 4 days? hint: it me
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:32am Trouble:

yes! don bryant is drinking form the fountain of youth. solid stuff!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:52am Adrian in London:

Hi everyone, what a song to come in from a gloriously sunny London afternoon to.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:57am Pale Son:

Loving the Supremes as setup for Weller.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:00am Trouble:

@ pale son I can hear some serious love of american soul music in paul weller's writing
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:07am Pale Son:

For sure. Definitely some Smokey Robinson coming through at times.
  10:08am Polyus:

I think in some cases labels are just using the original vinyl copies as the source for the reissue. But I am no expert either.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:12am fred:

Hello Trouble and all. Getting back to the birthday topic, I think Rob Weisberg's is in late May, and maybe Mayuko's too
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:16am robin:

is this a herding song?
Avatar 10:17am Nick S.:

I still can't believe I saw Vashti years ago. She is always in my mind.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:19am Trouble:

good point fred. I do believe rob is at the end of the month! @robin: sort of... @nick s.: wow, that must have been something wild

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:21am Adrian in London:

What @Hugo (NL) said
Avatar 10:22am themutante:

Love this!
Avatar 10:23am Nick S.:

It was a magic show. With Vetiver backing her. They didn't play in NYC? Oh, and Vetiver opened!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:24am The Oscar:

I was at a restaurant a couple of years ago when a haunting song started playing. Everyone at my table (mostly past and present record store clerks) strained to recognize the song, but couldn't. Eventually, I realized that we were actually hearing TWO songs: "Past Present and Future" was playing in the dining room, and "Black Hole" by Beck was leaking in from the kitchen. They worked surprisingly well together!
Avatar 10:25am bobdoesthings:

wasn't it Vetiver.. or maybe Devendra who sort of brought Vashti back into the scene? I know she sang on an early Devendra album..
  10:25am Mike Wolf:

My dog Dusty heard her name and came closer to the music and I believe she likes this song.
Avatar 10:25am bobdoesthings:

and early on Devendra Banhart was playing with Vetiver.. I think animal collective did something with Vashti around that time too , if memory serves.
  10:26am Mike Wolf:

@bobdoesthings Correct on all fronts — I think Devendra was more in the lead but AC and Vetiver both got involved with Vashti's return shortly after.
Avatar 10:30am Nick S.:

Thankfully, so. That show might be one of the best I've ever seen. Might have convinced the person I took to marry me, too. ;)
Avatar 10:30am bobdoesthings:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:31am MD:

Good Morning Gang..Good Morning Trouble wit a Capital T!
Avatar 10:33am themutante:

Damn, this is a wonderful song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:37am upsetter5001:

It must have been like ten years ago when I saw Vashti perform. I even thanked her in person for making the trip out to Seattle.
Avatar 10:41am Chris from DC:

Digging hearing Look Blue Go Purple regularly on FMU these days.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:42am Adrian in London:

Outside the office I'm working in, there's a bloke literally smashing things up with a big hammer, so I'm cranking this music up in my headphones right now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:48am Hugo (NL):

Adrian in London: hehe, Good luck .
By the way, I'm also working today, but in Holland it's an official holiday today: Ascension Day.
Do you guys (in UK or USA) have this as well?
Avatar 10:48am Chris from DC:

Also, really like this week's artwork.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:50am Hugo (NL):

Those Swedes *chuckles*
Avatar 10:55am herb.nyc:

that kevin morby was indeed a good song. and i missed the mont(gomer)y hall show? dumb me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:57am Adrian in London:

Bedouine was on Sheila's show just gone, the one on Friday.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:58am steveo:

Yep. May 19, 2017: With the sun in my eyes with Bedouine live! | See the playlist wfmu.org...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:59am Adrian in London:

@Hugo (NL) No, we don't have a public holiday for Ascension Day. That's a Jesus thing, right?
Avatar 11:02am bobdoesthings:

@trouble - according to quick search -- the Persuaders theme was done by John Barry.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:02am dale:

i remember you mentioning the john barry theme and i emailed you a file of it i downloaded off napster. that was probably 12 or 13 years ago trouble! it seemed like a miracle to be able to do that then.
Avatar 11:02am βrian:

In the U.S. we have a number of Stealth Holidays — those that one notices only when no mail awaits at the end of the workday.
Avatar 11:03am bobdoesthings:

oh you said that, duhh.
  11:03am Listener Robert:

Do you also have the theme music to "Department S"? It was the show that provided the basis for my friend's "Lost".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:06am Trouble:

no i don't @ listener robert... yes dale, I wonder is that the copy i just played?
  11:07am Listener Robert:

It's easy enough to get the "Dept. S" theme on YouTube. Not to be confused with the metal band named for the show a decade later.
Avatar 11:08am Itzall Ablurr:

Man, that Francis Lai slays me.
Avatar 11:08am Chris from DC:

Marine Girls, nice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:09am dale:

no, i sent you the instrumental from the tv show with the harpsichord. you mentioned recalling it, i sent it and you played it before the next set was over - it was truly a modern world, even without youtube.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:09am steveo:

i keep taking my headphones off to see where that woodblock noise is coming from!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:12am Hugo (NL):

@Adrian in London
apparently it is ;-)
I think not a lot of people here are celebrating it that way. Most people consider it just a free free day of. There is a bit of tradition that you go cycling very early in the morning (dauwtrappen, morning dew cycle) and there's some music festivals going on. Not very interesting ones, though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:13am Priscilla:

Paul McCartney
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:14am Ken From Hyde Park:

Good morning, Trouble and seekers of Trouble.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:16am melinda:

  11:18am Dean:

Never before heard the echoes of "Hey Jude" in this song, and I've had the album from the time it first appeared.
Avatar 11:19am Wild Neil:

PEACE All. @ Hugo-according to the Catholic Church in the USA its a day of obligation, so we are going to mass at 7pm....Corpus Christi is a HUGE DEAL in Poland, with parades and everything.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:19am officina:

Hey trouble, what's today's art? Also, I my bday is 5 May !
Avatar 11:19am bobdoesthings:

I belong to a world that's destroying itself -- best album title .. maybe ever.?
Avatar 11:22am Itzall Ablurr:

"Ram" is my favorite "Beatles record that is not really by The Beatles". Paul and Linda nailed it with that one, in my opinion.
Avatar 11:23am βrian:

Now that I think of it, I wonder if Holy Days of Obligation are the source of my atheism. When my parents sprung them on us, it felt like a death notice. (Cuz you know, kids wanna go out and play.)

Avatar 11:34am đ¢ ÞäŦ:

Mind you, I think all these religious stories are intensely interesting..just not for me. I mean, think about it: the symbol for christianity is a means of torture! What if he was killed by guillotine?
