This Tony Conrad documentary was one more cool thing I was going to get to see at Safe As Milk. *breaks down sobbing*
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 3:17pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Thanks for coming back, Fabio. The government-supplied failure over the last two weeks was starting to bum me out.
Avatar 3:17pm Chris from DC:

The doc was great, and I saw it along with a great performance by David Grubbs and MV Carbon (sorry blanking on the third member of the trio).
Avatar 3:18pm Sem Chumbo:

Hello, Fabio, and the Strengthened. Diggin' this Conrad w/ Faust.
  3:20pm GGG:

They call this the "oceanic" feeling, I think.
  4:32pm GIF Victim:

Are gifs reminders that everything ends? Does a given gif change over time or is it an example of something that remains the same eternally?
Avatar 4:33pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Gee. If.
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 4:35pm chris:

there is no beginning; no end; there is only the present frame.
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 4:36pm chris:

nice to hear you today, Fabio. hello all.
  4:48pm Listener Robert:

Were they just talking about George Kuchar? That guy was a riot, wish I'd known him sooner (& that he'd died later). I was introduced to him by his fellow experimental film student from many years earlier, John A. Keel. They were working in NY ca. 1960 when the home 8 mm sound & color equipment was new. Meanwhile in the Midwest, another friend-to-be of mine, David Lindelof, was working on the same thing with John Strathman & Brian Lamb.
  4:53pm mcginniwa in wellington, nz:

I showed an experimental film work that was alternating clear leader and black with silence and white noise as presentation at film school. Thought it was by Peter... can't remember. Anyway, people flipped out (in a disrespectful way). I almost quit the class. Weird how minimalism can be so powerful.

also don't forget LPR on April 9th
Avatar 5:03pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...Tony Conrad & John Cale certainly seem to be similar violin/violists...
Avatar 5:06pm TDK60:

Let's bring back the ostrich; fits in with today's society, eh?
Avatar 5:07pm geezerette:

Enjoying this so much!!!

Howdy, Fabio & gang. :D

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:16pm melinda:

Did public access channels bite the dust?
Avatar 5:19pm TDK60:

Conrad sounds like what they used to call a "Renaissance" person.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:23pm Michael 98145:

@melinda, no they are still around. probably depends on the cable provider.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:24pm Michael 98145:

look into my eyes - static1.squarespace.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:28pm common:

Fabio! All!
Avatar 5:32pm northguineahills:

Last I checked NYC still had public access. The ones here in FL are mostly just bulletins of community events.
Avatar 5:34pm TDK60:

Those T.O.E.M. shows must've been real "mind-bending" back in those days!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:36pm Andrew Waterloo:

When I saw him he had a large bell like tubes
Avatar 5:38pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Stringed instruments are kind of ideal overtone generators in the 1st place - then when you add Electricity & Amplification...As a gittar diddler - I find the fiddle to be filled w/ angels & demons - quite a strange delicate little mystical little power elf...People are still getting up to speed w/ loops & things now...
Avatar 5:40pm northguineahills:

I still have my Early Minimalism box, and Four Violins on vinyl... I love it!
  5:40pm Dean:

I have a copy of the Table of the Elements CD issue of John Cale's Sun Blindness Music, acquired in 2001 at DGM. It remains sealed. Yet I vividly remember hearing it and deciding to buy it when I visited the store.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:46pm common:

Ah, 95. Albini, o'rourke. Making my day, fabio
Avatar 5:46pm TDK60:

I do hear a similarity to some of Cale's fiddling in VU.
Avatar 5:47pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Put in mind of Cale's viola on 'We Will Fall' on TheStooges' 1st album - Produced by Cale - as were the 1sts by Patti Smith, Modern Lovers...
Avatar 5:50pm tuner fish:

nice to hear some tony
Avatar 5:50pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...& now 'BlackAngel'sDeathSong'...not to detract from Conrad himself... interesting connection...
Avatar 5:50pm geezerette:

Fabio I hope you do more of this kind of thing. Absolutely loved it and it's very generous to share history with younger listeners. Thanks so much to you and your guest Mr. Hubby.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:51pm common:

Fantastic. Thank you both
Avatar 5:51pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Yes Thx.
  5:52pm Listener Robert:

How'd you write something like this out in musical notation?
  5:52pm Matias:

Thank you both!
  5:53pm brycepunk1:

This show has been amazing. Thank you!
Avatar 5:54pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Something like ♩~~~~ [drone] - ???
Avatar 5:55pm TDK60:

This couldn't happen anywhere else.
  5:55pm Dean:

I've lived in the Bay Area for almost 16 years, been to Napa precisely twice, once to a restaurant to meet friends one night, the other time to attend a book talk at the Mondavi winery. Anyway, didn't "Sideways" take place further south on the Central Coast?
Avatar 5:56pm TDK60:

I love Fabio's sigh there, hee hee.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:56pm melinda:

Dean I think it was further south.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:56pm common:

He was in trash. Great
Avatar 5:57pm geezerette:

@TDK60: you're so right. Are we lucky or what?!
Avatar 5:57pm geezerette:

  5:57pm Dean:

There's LAX from which you can fly to anywhere else in the world!

Actually, I admire LA quite a bit.
