Good morning, Geoffrey. Lovely start, I imagined Queen Elizabeth frolicking in the first snow of winter with her Royal Corgis.

Guido from Cologne:

Good morning Jeffrey & Jeff & everyone!

I'm against all of those too Jeff. They disgust me

What they should do is color the gaps between songs on rekkids!...
WFMU is often characterized as nutty or ramshackle or whatever. From a purely Marketing Strategy point of view - I suppose so - but otherwise - I would like to more often hear it characterized as the smartest, best-informed, richest & most interesting continual source of Music & related Culture.
@freedsman: Compared to more conventionally-funded stations, FMU operates on a *fraction* of a 'normal' budget - yet it's streets, leagues, lightyears ahead in both Form (five streams, playlists & community comments, archives & more) - & in Content. W/ no Commercials. (!)

Jeffrey Davison:

To freedmansbeardman: I know jack about mortgages, but we bought this building way before Jersey City was a destination, so I think the mortgage is okay. I believe that running a 24/7 station, plus our huge web presence, which is an amazing treasure, costs money to run. What is the average electric bill for a one-bedroom apartment these days, for example?
  7:16am
Listener Robert:

The location was actually a big deal, in that it would attract live acts, especially when they got that performance space ready. It took a decade or so to finance the replacement of their tenant with that performance space. Plus, it was excellent timing in that at that time, Hoboken was ritzy while J.C. was run-down.
  7:22am
Listener Robert:

The opening of Monty Hall was good timing in another way, roughly coinciding with the demise of Maxwell's.

Listener Robert:

But I'm glad listeners like freemanbeardsman are always thinking about cost-saving measures.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:27am
Jeffrey Davison:

Yes, as Robert points out, the proximity to the PATH station allows a lot of musicians (who don't have money or an entourage) to get here for a few bucks. And a reminder, a lot of the musicians we champion come here before they later become famous and praised from everyone else. We play their music, and we're often the first to do so, just because the music is good, and for no other reason.

Jeff Conklin:

The passion for the station in terms of listeners thinking about mortgages is impressive. We survive on a shoestrng budget. Ours is not to question why but to only to do. Massive thanks to all who support this weird ship

hey, did my pledge come througj ?
  7:40am
Joe stalvey:

This show is one of the main reasons I upped my annual pledge to mouse level. I will not miss the dollar a day but I would damn sure miss FMU. I hope in the coming year the station comes up with ways to incentivize people to pledge at that level. Most regular listeners and commenters should be able to do that much unless they are living some modern day La Boheme life, which hopefully no one listening today is but if you are I have a t shirt I can spare and god bless you. Music by algorithm is weak beer, so support good beer and send FMU cash!
  7:46am
Joe stalvey:

BTW, anyone who thinks a million and change to run a full-time media operation in a major metro area is "insane" is living in an alternate universe. That is just silly.

Seems unlikely to me that there are a lot of fans of both WFMU and Trump...

my "plunge" into the depths of donations to this station have not made "toast" of me. i happily give to such a great station. i have one more bit to give to mr brainen's show, and i'm pleased that i can afford my promise of 45 a month. it may not last long, but now i can do it; and i live on a very limited income. radio is my life
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:58am
fred:

@River: A great thing about the station is that it is even unlikelier that there would be none
Avatar 7:59am
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

@River: We might be surprised. There is a certain overlap w/ FreeForm ideals & Libertarianism - while Listener Supported seems Democratic Socialist to most of us...Drumpf however is not necessarily favored by all Conservatives, even...

Unfortunately, the generous billionaire demographic seems to be sorely underrepresented in WFMU listenership

fred:

You don't have to be rich to make a difference: just pledge what you can afford, and consider the Swag for life way, which makes it easier for you and brings some financial predictability to the station
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:29am
Jeffrey Davison:

Pledge what you're comfortable with. What I sometimes say is: a pledge should hurt just a teeny bit, so it's significant to you, not pocket change. Some might disagree, but that's just how I feel.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:41am
fred:

Put it that way: think of the great moments Jeffrey's show has brought you in the past year. Compare that to what you got each day from a crappy vending machine snack or terrible coffee. Now spend that little amount that adds up on the good stuff instead of the crap
Avatar 8:43am
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

I cannot believe the word that only 1 in 10 regular listeners donates! If true - I ask - if you can only do a little, please everyone - do that little. Only $10 / month makes a Swag For Lifer!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:48am
Doug Schulkind:

If I had a nickel for every time I did a Google search for an artist and it led me to a Shrunken Planet playlist...

...I'd donate it to WFMU.

Jeffrey has a show at 6am on weekends. I don't know when he wakes up for it, and it's probably something my mind couldn't cope with. Reward that kind of dedication!

Thanks for all the love Rev, the inimitable Doug Schulkind, and all of you the FMU family...
