A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Loretta Lynn carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

Good morning, Trouble Team. @Trouble - I hope your feet were up to the task for Sheep and Wool. Lots of walking needed to see all the displays. It was a gorgeous day there on Saturday.

There was a pretty cool Paul Williams documentary on Netflix for a while. Not sure if it is still there.
  9:39am Listener Robert:

Trouble, "comme" in French is pronounced just like "come" in English.

Good Morning Troubled World...LOL!
  9:42am Sam:

I've always hated the word "heartache"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:42am MD:

But in this reality a Troubled World is a Happy World...Did we all watch the Big Con Artist last night? And I don't mean Hillary...
  9:42am Listener Robert:

Oh, my mistake. Just looked at the playlist and saw it wasn't a phrase "comme la [quelquechose]", but Comeladiennes.

Sam, try not pronouncing the /t/.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:43am pantz:

@chromaphone I saw that doc and was amazed at how much of a following he still has. Some pretty rabid ones, too.
Avatar 9:43am Trouble:

i would like to see that @chromaphone! thanks for the tip
Avatar 9:45am chromaphone:

It was cool for me to see the doc because I remember seeing Williams on the tv all the time when I was a kid but I never knew why he was famous.
  9:46am Sam:

When Trump said he would wait until after the votes were counted to decide whether or not he would accept the results of the election, I really think Hillary should have just gone over and picked him up by the neck and thrown him off the stage.
Avatar 9:53am Trouble:

exactly@chromaphone- same here,i thought he was just a talk show character. i didn't know the man wrote some outstanding songs
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:53am melinda:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:55am melinda:

I think the Paul Williams doc is still at Netflix. Still Alive is the name. And yeah, I just knew that he was everywhere in the 70s, no knowledge of his extensive songwriting career.
Avatar 9:56am Trouble:

thanks @melinda: will watch that tonite!

@kenfromHP: were the souvenir shoppers well behaved on Saturday? I heard there was an incident at the Jennie the potter booth
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:59am sphere:

wasn't Paul Williams on the Love Boat at one point?
  10:01am famous original italianicewolf:

@trouble: I went back to the sweitzer mill booth to get some of the yarn in fun colors and apparently it is dyed by the owners' six year old
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:01am pantz:

@sphere He made the Saturday night TV tour. Fantasy Island, Love Boat, etc... Heck, he may have had a cameo on Dallas!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:01am sphere:

As of 2014, Williams was the president of ASCAP. Check this Billboard interview:

A Troubled Thursday from home!

We were spending time with sheep during last week's show, in rural Wisconsin. Reminded me of Vermont ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:05am melinda:

I think I remember Paul Williams from the Muppet Show. Until I saw the doc I didn't know he wrote the Rainbow Connection, that was a big revelation.
  10:08am Bill W:

We've surpassed Idiocracy easily, on "both" sides. I'm writing in Lupe Fiasco for Chief Puppet.
  10:11am Sam:

I wish there were a few more verses to space girl. It was really getting interesting. I want to know more.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:12am annie:

i liken this whole "election" charade to a long con, and very few see it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:13am braveness23:

B23 here! This time I remembered about your show more than 15 minutes before it is over!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:15am Greg from ZONE 5:

Morning, Trouble & all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:18am braveness23:

Trouble, do you still have chickens?
Avatar 10:19am Trouble:

good morning, greg! and congratulations braveness23!! yes i do, i have 4 plymouth rock barres
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:23am braveness23:

I've had chickens for prolly 7 years now. Typically 3 or 4. My current birds have started spending nearly all of their time on their roost instead of down on the floor of the coop or in the run. Today it is raining so I can't blame them but they have even been doing it when it's nice out. I wonder if I should be concerned.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:24am Adrian in London:

Love this EPDM album. Been playing it loads recently.
Avatar 10:29am βrian:

It was "triangle in the back" everywhere last week. Amish country.
  10:30am muwf:

excessive roosting can be a sign of predator scares... dogs hawks etc...
Avatar 10:34am βrian:

Hawks are migrating this time of year. They tend to take notice of our local coops.
Avatar 10:37am Whosondephone:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:38am braveness23:

Yeah, the thing is that we are pretty predator free. Fenced back yard in a fairly urban area. The only four legged creatures we have are my 19 year old dog who ignores the chickens and a cat that occasionally creeps into the yard. We have loads of hawks above. But none of this is any different than any other time. In fact I reinforced the coop and run this years so the chickens are more secure than they have ever been (although they probably don't have any notion of this)
Avatar 10:42am βrian:

@braveness23: Are they watching Faux news. That'd do it. Chicken Little was right.
  10:44am muwf:

i came home, glanced at the totally chicken wired 6foot high enclosure to see the chickens scratching. Then, i noticed a red tail sitting twenty feet up in very close old oak. Red tailed looked at me jumped off branch and grabbed through the chicken wire at the lady on the roof of the coop inside the wire. Missed the lady by inches. All the chicks went inside within minutes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:47am Adrian in London:

@Trouble Is Tia Blake a new artist or from the 60s or some time?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:47am MD:

On Ya! Girl!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:48am MD:

Avatar 10:48am βrian:

Circa 1970.
  10:48am Jack:

There are a lot of hawks about, I watched a Cooper's Hawk eat one of our chipmunks at the bird feeder a couple of days ago.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:50am braveness23:

Way back when I first got chickens we had a juvenile red tailed hawk that would sit on our fence licking it's lips (?) but I haven't seen one that close up since.
Avatar 10:51am chromaphone:

That Tia Blake song was awesome.
Avatar 10:52am βrian:

Orange-tufted hawks are even worse.
Avatar 10:52am alanr:

I always thought that James Blake stole a lot of his music from Joan Armatrading. I prefer the her over him. Just sayin'.
  10:52am kevlicki:

Trouble this has been a really enjoyable show so far. Helped me get thru cutting a crate of cayenne and Helios peppers for the dehydrator

  10:59am kevlicki:

Alanr that would be a terrible idea. Was wearing gloves, thankfully.
However I am still sneezing cos the pepper isnin the air!

Love me some hot peppers.
Avatar 11:01am chromaphone:

What kevlicki said!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:02am sphere:

kevlicki, what dishes would you cook with those peppers?
Avatar 11:03am northguineahills:

When I was still living in Brooklyn last spring, I heard a pigeon cooing on my A/C. I got up to shoo it to keep it from getting ideas about nesting there and there was a huge THUD! A red tail had fell out of the sky and landed on the pigeon and tore it apart in seconds. It was oblivious to my wife and I videoing it. It took notice, and took its pigeon carcass to the roof across the street and finished it, it was cool getting to see a red tail a good 2.5 m away, and it left a lot of blood and feathers on the A/C.
Avatar 11:05am northguineahills:

I had a jalapeno plant for 5 years straight that made the hottest, best flavored jalapenos I had, and they got better every year. When I moved this summer, the movers couldn't take it, and my wife forgot to water it, so it went kaput. I miss it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:06am Ken From Hyde Park:

@icewolf 9:59 - All went well in the souvenir tent. The funnel neck sweaters were popular and ran out by noon.
Avatar 11:06am chromaphone:

that's cool northguinea. I was lucky enough to film a red-tailed a few years ago that pulled a chipmunk out of a downspout and then flew off with it. Pretty popular on youtube :)
Avatar 11:07am alanr:

kevlicki: I thought the joke was obvious. :-)
Avatar 11:09am fred:

@NGH: Any news on the job front?
Avatar 11:10am chromaphone:

That is crazy about tia blake. Looks like she only has that one album :(
Avatar 11:11am northguineahills:

@Fred: Supposed to have another phone interview for a great job in Philadelphia tomorrow. Other then that, nothing new.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:12am sphere:

Discogs has one Tia Blake reissue for sale @ $42!
Avatar 11:13am Kevlicki:

@sphere we're dehydrating them to grind them into pepper powder. They'll be used in whatever dish you want a little kick to. The helios do make a good hot sauce
Avatar 11:14am Kevlicki:

@alanr the ridiculous part is that I did! even after wearing gloves and washing my hands, still a little sting
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:14am sphere:

@ Kevlicki nice!
Avatar 11:15am βrian:

Blessed are the cooks, canners, and dehydrators.
Avatar 11:15am Kevlicki:

@trouble, I thought that "in the pines" was a possible William Elliot Whitmore track. interesting
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:16am sphere:

however, the Tia Blake album is also available digitally on Amazon and iTunes.
Avatar 11:18am fred:

@NGH: Sorry the FL thing didn't work out. I guess Philly would increase the cost of living side of it, I hope the pay's good enough

Lovely stuff, this.
FMU time is sadly more rare these days. High-maintenance work scene; harder to hide away with headphones. These times are big yay.
Avatar 11:29am fred:

@RTD: I guess "carrot green" was close enough to "carrot cake" to summon you
Avatar 11:30am Rev. Turnip Druid:

It doesn't take much, fred... just the faintest hint in the air...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:32am Mick:

Hello Troubledors! This has been a very necessary show, so thank you Trouble for making it happen!
Avatar 11:35am fred:

@RTD: Can you believe I have never had carrot cake? I think I like carrot better than cake, but this sounds worth trying
Avatar 11:35am βrian:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:35am Mick:

@Brian, where in rural Wisconsin were you?
Avatar 11:37am Rev. Turnip Druid:

Spirulina track very favorably reminding this brain of "Astounding Sounds" LP (hawkwind) -- same time period, sweet space vibesville.
Avatar 11:37am βrian:

In the La Farge / Viroqua area.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:37am Linda Lee:

lovely show this morning! thank you Trouble!
Avatar 11:38am northguineahills:

@Fred: Still in FL, but working for ESRI making a really good salary in a urban town, a not to far from NYC, is more attractive, but I still might take a job in FL.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:39am Mick:

I have a cousin in Viroqua, and my grandfather is in Westby - an Amish family now lives in/works what used to be his farm. Sorry to hear about the oven woes!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:40am Adrian in London:

This Spirulina track is great, like how Verve wished they could have sounded (before they turned into The Verve and went all songs)
Avatar 11:41am βrian:

Had a good meal at the Driftless Café while we were there, among the beautiful people.
Avatar 11:42am MenfussMike:

good comparison Adrian London. I do like those early Verve releases. This Spirulina track is very nice

Thanks, MenfussMike. If you need any more comparisons, just let me know…
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:51am Linda Lee:

Recently finished Cab Calloway's autobiography. He hilariously said (in his later years) he was often mistaken for Duke Ellington... Nixon even greeted him as such, at an event...
