Street interviews, listener call-ins, vinyl gluttery, sporadic normalcy, original floperas and fiktion, blatant talking over songs, politix, tenderness, and a vague undercurrent of angst. Right up your alley!

Clay for President
Avatar 6:29pm
Linda Lee:

that's really, truly debatable. don't swallow that line. everyone points to Nader as having cost Gore the 2000 election, but that's still under debate. honestly. in any case, close to 50% of us don't identify GOP or Democrat. they don't vote. this isn't sustainable. this is why we have 2 disliked candidates. everyone else is shut out every time.
  6:30pm
herb.nyc:

How can people say "both candidates are unqualified "? If it were Clinton v JBush, no one would bring up being unqualified. Trump has said this lie so long it's now accepted by many. Ugh.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:30pm
melinda:

3rd parties don't have a chance with our current electoral system, but it would be interesting to hear who is supporting them and why.
Avatar 6:30pm
Slick Goldtooth:

This song got used as the theme for the show. Run of the mill sappy 90's teen drama
  6:31pm
James f:

Phil Anselmo!!! I've seen this interview, done at Tulane. amazing stuff!
Avatar 6:31pm
geezerette:

melinda I agree on both counts.
Avatar 6:31pm
Linda Lee:

melinda, it really would. what voting third party does is keep the third party viable for future. unless we think the duopoly is the best possible system, i don't see a problem with strengthening third parties. every year it's 'not now! not now!' & every year the 2 mainstream candidates are worse & worse.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:32pm
melinda:

Dawson's Creek always sounded like a pioneer drama to me. Like Little House on the Prairie.
Avatar 6:32pm
Carmichael:

Who is Phil Anselmo?
  6:33pm

Simmons ger from Pantera, Carmichael.
Avatar 6:33pm

i was stranded in New Orleans in 1980 in a driveaway car on the way to Mexico with 2 illegal frenchmen. we took shelter in a mansion closet. true story.

I really need to double check myself. Phil was the lead singer from pantera
Avatar 6:34pm
βrian:

I don't think it is debatable — effectively. We need to hold Hilliary's feet to the fire, but Trump is a soulless cipher and impervious to flame. A third-party vote is an option ONLY in a run-off system. In our system it's just pure masturbation.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:34pm
Marcel M:

Clay, I love when you do those musical skip things with the voices! So good!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:34pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:35pm
dale:

there's no movement to write in bernie?
  6:35pm
el B0-bO:

Trump will make our country WHITE again.
Avatar 6:35pm
Linda Lee:

dale, he's eligible to write in in exactly 2 states. Bernie hasn't applied for that status.
Avatar 6:36pm
Linda Lee:

in every other state if you write him in, your vote hits the trash can. it helps no one at all.
Avatar 6:37pm
βrian:

... which, by the way, is why the green party has done better in Europe. In a run-off system you can vote your conscience first, and then vote pragmatically the second round.
Avatar 6:37pm
Carmichael:

Vote for the lesser of 2 evils. We will end up with lesser evil.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:38pm
melinda:

We would need major electoral reforms for 3rd parties to be effective without splitting the vote. People argue that Nader didn't split the vote, and maybe he didn't, but if the Green Party were strengthened then they could easily take away votes from Dems without having a chance to actually win because Congress chooses the prez wihtout a majority vote. I'd rather focus on getting better candidates in the pool at local and state levels so they can rise to the top eventually, and this was part of Bernie's message.
Avatar 6:38pm
Carmichael:

Man Clay, I remember this song from way back there in that long ago time in that place where I was.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:38pm
Ken From Hyde Park:

Did Trump's kids ever register? They weren't registered in time to vote for their father in the NY primary. Hoo boy.
  6:39pm
herb.nyc:

There's the Vote Trading plan. We in NY (for instance) vote 3rd party while we get a swing state voter to vote Hillary. -- and yep, we need BETTER candidates.
Avatar 6:39pm
βrian:

We need a dose of Ivor Cutler.
Avatar 6:39pm
Linda Lee:

one last comment on this, then i go to work: some of us actually don't feel taking votes from the Democratic Party is necessarily a bad thing, at this point. there's no actual opposition there to our most destructive policies. guess who the Neo-Cons & war profiteers are backing this year? hint: it's not the GOP.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:40pm
melinda:

Maine has ranked choice voting on the ballot this year, and maybe of other states follow suit in some way it would normalize the idea of reforming the electoral process at the national level. But until then 3rd and 4th parties won't make it.
Avatar 6:40pm
geezerette:

Focusing on local down ticket candidates holds some hope though.

Ok, repeat that back to yourself and replace "taking votes from the Democratic Party" with "giving votes to the GOP." That's the effective reality — pathetic and frustrating as it is.
