Avatar Wed. 8/3/16 7:06pm listener james from westwood:

Aaaaahhh! Of all the bits of luggage to get hung up...glad it was only temporary!
Avatar Wed. 8/3/16 7:10pm Gary:

Gaaah, sorry about that, gang -- hi, Tim, James and RevRab!
Avatar Wed. 8/3/16 7:10pm melinda:

This is nice.
  Wed. 8/3/16 7:11pm Dean:

If my bearings are correct, Honest Jon's is a few doors away from Mountain Grill Cafe, namesake of one of Hawkwind's albums! I recall seeing it in 1984 while shopping (for records, naturally) at the Portobello Road flea market.
Avatar Wed. 8/3/16 7:13pm Gary:

Hi Dean! Not sure if I saw the Mountain Grill Cafe, although it sounds familiar. Frankly, I was too excited to really notice anything other the CDs I'd picked up -- holy bejeebus, but that is an amazing record store.
Avatar Wed. 8/3/16 7:17pm northguineahills:

I dig this Toktek!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/3/16 7:17pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...always been *afraid* of England - because of possibility of entering a Music Store & never being seen again...
Avatar Wed. 8/3/16 7:17pm Gary:

NGH! The guy in Distortion Records recommended it when I asked him for "interesting Dutch stuff"
Avatar Wed. 8/3/16 7:18pm Gary:

RevRab, I was in Honest Jon's for at least 2 hours ... and it's smaller than my apartment
  Wed. 8/3/16 7:20pm Dean:

If it's as good as it used to be, L'Oblique in Montreal is a similar kind of store. More boutique than warehouse, but wow, an amazing selection.
Avatar Wed. 8/3/16 7:24pm Gary:

I'm going to have to make it back up to Montreal, I see
  Wed. 8/3/16 7:30pm Dean:

And Cheap Thrills, another good Montreal store, at least c.2000.
  Wed. 8/3/16 7:37pm spodiodi:

Nice show, Gary. Sounds good.
Avatar Wed. 8/3/16 7:38pm melinda:

What an ingenious hybrid. PLU is so good.

Spodiodi! Thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/3/16 7:38pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...all 1967 tunes I think...
Avatar Wed. 8/3/16 7:39pm Gary:

Oh, is that true? I bet she's got a whole underlying constraint going on
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/3/16 7:40pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...not too terribly bad a year for music...maybe idea came from a Chart Sweep?
Avatar Wed. 8/3/16 7:42pm Gary:

But, then this is part of it, and Jump is 1984 ... Disco Inferno 1977 ... hmmm
Avatar Wed. 8/3/16 7:43pm tim abdellah:

... And "I'll Follow the Sun" 1964
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/3/16 7:44pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- actually written by SirMacca as a teen in the 1950s - but nevermind!
Avatar Wed. 8/3/16 7:45pm Gary:

Whatever the constraint (or not) may have been, Vicki & Peter were insanely wonderful hosts & lovely people
Avatar Wed. 8/3/16 7:51pm tim abdellah:

Nasida Ria! Nice - I've watched those ladies on the YouTubes.
Avatar Wed. 8/3/16 7:53pm Gary:

They're spectacular! I can't tell you how my heart was racing when I found that CD -- it's from the 1990s and out of print ...
Avatar Wed. 8/3/16 7:56pm ndbob:

excellent first hour Gary - catch the rest on the archive!

Avatar Wed. 8/3/16 9:31pm hyde:

everything is better in French. i'm convinced that infomercials are better in French. even limericks might be better in French.
Avatar Wed. 8/3/16 9:32pm Gary:

It's run by the same people, NGH
Avatar Wed. 8/3/16 9:34pm Gary:

You've been very patient, Hyde -- some Thai coming up soon, I promise!
Avatar Wed. 8/3/16 9:35pm hyde:

haha, i make no demands.

Ok, record label dyslexia gets me again.
Avatar Wed. 8/3/16 9:37pm hyde:

also, this Tala A.M. is amazing!
Avatar Wed. 8/3/16 9:39pm Gary:

Well, NGH, it's my fault because I'm putting store names in the playlist where one might assume one might put labels
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/3/16 9:42pm Ike:

Was hoping for great Thai food in Brooklyn. Tried a place called Look (by Plant Love House) a few weeks ago. Not bad, not bad at all, but still not as good as Thai food in Queens.
Avatar Wed. 8/3/16 9:43pm Gary:

You know, Ike, there used to be some good places on and near Church Avenue, my old neighborhood in Brooklyn
Avatar Wed. 8/3/16 9:43pm Gary:

... and speaking of Thai
Avatar Wed. 8/3/16 9:46pm Alex In Illinois:

There are lots of Thai places in the Chicago area. I think there were more, 20 years ago. Maybe they have just moved westward. Either that, or it is a case of the younger generation not wanting to be in the restaurant business, which happens with all types of family owned restaurants.
Avatar Wed. 8/3/16 9:46pm hyde:

sounds good!
Avatar Wed. 8/3/16 9:49pm Gary:

Hi Alex! What area of Chicago were they in before?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/3/16 9:54pm Uncle Michael:

Been enjoying the last hour, Gary.
Avatar Wed. 8/3/16 9:54pm Gary:

Michael!
Avatar Wed. 8/3/16 9:55pm Alex In Illinois:

They were all over the North side of the City, and maybe they still are, but here in Oak Park, there used to be more.
Avatar Wed. 8/3/16 9:55pm Gary:

Where are you getting all of those incredible threatening weather gifs?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/3/16 9:56pm Uncle Michael:

Supercells R Us

I mean...the Internet.
Avatar Wed. 8/3/16 9:56pm Gary:

LOL
Avatar Wed. 8/3/16 9:57pm melinda:

Enjoyed the variety tonight. Thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/3/16 9:59pm Uncle Michael:

Thanks for the music, Gary!
Avatar Wed. 8/3/16 9:59pm Alex In Illinois:

Hi Uncle Michael,
Since you live closer to Tornado Alley than most of us, I thought maybe you drove 100 miles West one day with a camcorder, and recorded them yourself.
Avatar Wed. 8/3/16 10:00pm hyde:

thanks Gary!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/3/16 10:00pm Ike:

There's all sorts of interesting stuff on and around Church Ave. but IDK anything about the Thai restaurants there. I'm not too far from there, actually.
Avatar Wed. 8/3/16 10:04pm Gary:

Check it out, Ike! Night all, and thanks for hanging out!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Thu. 8/4/16 9:57am Brian in UK:

Gary, so pleased that you had a great time this side of the water. It will take a few weeks to absorb all the sounds.
The Dove is a lovely little pub by the Thames, trust you had a pint of London Pride.
