  7:21pm Scuttle:

Great music today!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:22pm Gary:

Happy to see you here, Redkayak -- I don't think I've seen you here before! You know, I lived in Minneapolis-St. Paul for 6 years in the 90s ... what area of the midwest are you in?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:23pm Gary:

Hey Scuttle!
  7:25pm steve:

hey Gary

Avatar 7:30pm northguineahills:

I believe I have this Cecil Leuter album on mp3 somewhere.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:30pm redkayak:

True enough . I've only just found your show,
I'm outside Chicago
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:31pm Gary:

Radio Romance might actually be Belgian ... gotta double check ... too late now, if so!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:34pm Gary:

So, gang -- I'm going to Amsterdam and London next week for a couple of weeks ... any recommendations for music stores to hit up?
Avatar 7:37pm Polyus:

No idea, but I am going to London in October, so let me know what you find.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:38pm Gary:

Well, I am definitely going to visit Honest Jon's
  7:41pm Dean:

Alas, no more Cheapo Cheapo on Ruper Street! Closed five years ago. It was ragged, but still studded with treasures according to those who mourned its closure. But what do I know? I was there in '76!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:45pm Gary:

Meghan McKee will be filling in for me, btw
Avatar 7:47pm Polyus:

I have heard good things about Honest Jon's, will have to hit it up. Though I am not sure if I want to deal with a bunch of records or CDs on the return trip, truth be told.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:48pm Gary:

Oh, that is something that I *definitely* want to deal with on the way back
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:50pm listener james from westwood:

Yay for Catherine Ribeiro! (And your Euro-tour! And Meghan!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:51pm Gary:

Bye, Bob! Hi Melinda and Geezerette!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:06pm Doug Schulkind:

It would be funny if Miroslav Vitouš did a cover of "Circulus Vitiosus."

OK, it wouldn't be all that funny.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:09pm Gary:

@Tim It's their first album, I think, and although I am *very* new to them, it's my favorite (so far)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:11pm melinda:

hi g!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:18pm Gary:

From All Music: "One of the most mysterious groups from the French experimental underground of the early '70s, Fille Qui Mousse was as radical as the German band Faust, and utilized similar studio trickery. Their one album never got properly released, and they might have been forgotten if not for being included on the influential Nurse With Wound list of influences in the early '80s. Fille Qui Mousse was a leftist political collective led by journalist/musician Henri-Jean Enu in the very early '70s in Paris. In 1971 they obtained a record deal with the legendary Futura label, which had mostly released avant-jazz at that time but were expanding into more experimental rock. The record was recorded in the summer of 1971, most likely in one day, and then mixed in December of that same year. Over a year passed before about a dozen test pressings of the record were made in early 1973. Unfortunately, Futura was having financial problems at the time and these 10 or 12 copies were all that existed, becoming one of the most rare, sought, and yet virtually unobtainable LPs of French avant-rock. Finally, in the mid- to late '90s, several CD versions of the record were released, under the titles Trixie Stapelton and Se Taire Pour une Femme Trop Belle, often without song titles or the names of performers or composers (which weren't listed on the test pressing), until the Fractal release of Se Taire in 2002."

Howdy, Marcel!
Avatar 8:22pm geezerette:

Thank goodness for anthropology!
Avatar 8:45pm Polyus:

My friend had some sort of religious experience seeing Magma recently.
Avatar 8:46pm tim abdellah:

Wait, so this track is in a constructed language called Kobaïan? en.wikipedia.org...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:49pm Gary:

@Tim, yes ... and it's its own genre: Zeuhl (which means "celestial" in Kobaian)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:49pm Gary:

@Polyus I am an idiot and missed them when they were here (not that awfully long ago)
Avatar 8:52pm tim abdellah:

Avatar 8:54pm tim abdellah:

Gotta run - groovy show, Gary. Have a great time in Europe!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:54pm Gary:

There are at least two pop culture books out about invented languages ... I wonder if either or both talks about Magma?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:55pm Gary:

Thanks, Tim! Let's talk when I get back!
  8:55pm steve:

everyone always tells me Magma is a great live band
Avatar 8:56pm Marcel M:

Wow. Great show!
Avatar 8:56pm Polyus:

A promoter friend of mine here said they were offered to him, but unfortunately the guarantee was too steep for these parts. They have played Chicago a couple of times now, but that's as close as they have come.
Avatar 8:56pm Marcel M:

I also did not go... any all my friends were like, "IT WAS AMAZING!!!!"
  8:58pm Jill B.:

Yes! You leave so soon!!!!! I am excited for you and Rattana and hope that you have a very lovely time.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:45pm Alex In Illinois:

I never learned French. But my sister is rather fluent, my mom speaks it. My grandmother spoke it, but apparently her pronunciation was not "proper". When I was little, I thought only women could speak French.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:46pm Gary:

Well, I am among those who definitely cannot pronounce it
  9:57pm Jill B.:

Great program tonight Gary!
