Familiar & forgotten gems from 50-plus years of music on the darker side, shoegaze, synthpop, goth, psychedelia, darkwave, with unapologetic detours into 70s pop. In a dark night of the soul, it's always 3 o'clock in the morning.

Listener comments!

  9:26pm P-90:

Looking forward to this one!
  12:00am Cliff (moving to Prague!):

Heeeey Julie :D

Yay! Julie!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 12:07am Julie:

hey folks!

Digging it
  12:11am Cliff (moving to Prague!):

One of my favorite Cure songs
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 12:14am Julie:

everyone I know (well, almost) went to the Cure in the past three nights.
  12:16am Cliff (moving to Prague!):

And how many you know went to Billy Joel?
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 12:17am Julie:

no one who admits it. Honestly I DO want to see Billy, I never have. But I have to be REALLY into someone to go to MSG.
  12:19am Cliff (moving to Prague!):

Oh I'd have gone to (to either show), if I wasn't a 4-1/2 hour drive away
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 12:21am Julie:

I enjoy The Cure, but I'd rather go see the smaller goth bands in smaller clubs. MSG was good for The Who.
12:21am Dave in Vermont in the passenger seat:

Driving from VT to St Louis. 100 miles outside of Buffalo. Thanks for the company.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 12:23am Julie:

Ah gotta love a road trip
  12:27am JakeGould:

I honestly cannot get into seeing bands I like at (1) huge arenas and (2) on essentially nostalgia tours decades after their peak. Like when the Jesus and Mary Chain were doing that “Psychocandy” tour? I was on the fence about and decided I just didn’t want to see them. Would rather go to Market Hotel or Baby‘s Alright to see new bands I like.
12:28am Dave in Vermont in the passenger seat:

Hey! Kate Bush is the driver's favorite. How did you know?
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 12:28am Julie:

I jumped on Lush tix though.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 12:28am Julie:

Dave this isn't Kate! But she's coming up later
  12:29am JakeGould:

I would say “Lush” and “Ride” are unique exceptions. So hey.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 12:34am Julie:

I endured terminal 5 for...mazzy star...my bloody valentine. And Lush (and seeing them at Bburg too)
  12:55am Cliff (moving to Prague!):

A blonde pseudo-goth stand-in for Julie?! Heresy!
  12:56am Cliff (moving to Prague!):

(adjusts green carnation)
  12:59am Cliff (moving to Prague!):

I never even received my goth card in the mail
Avatar 1:02am Roberto:

Ohai Ji-loo-lie!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 1:03am Julie:

hi Roberto!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 1:19am Julie:

I couldn't get a decent picture of it but he's playing some theremin as well.
  1:20am Cliff (moving to Prague!):

Everything sounds better with theremin
Avatar 1:23am Roberto:

I think Ken's got all the bases covered here -- dark, nightly, and soulful!
  1:28am Cliff (moving to Prague!):

His singing is haunting.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 1:32am Julie:

yeah I don't have on a lot of male artists, they really have to have a special quality to them. Ken is really moving.
  1:41am Cliff (moving to Prague!):

Amazing how one person can produce all of this!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 1:41am Julie:

When I saw him live he played guitar as well, he didn't bring it that day (he didn't have his drummer either)
  1:50am Cliff (moving to Prague!):

Thank you to Ken Fury!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:53am mariano:

Welp. That scary image was just what I needed to see as I work alone on a design project in a dimly-lit room. 'Evening, all!
  1:56am Cliff (moving to Prague!):

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:58am mariano:

Oh yeah, solstice! Just read that there's also a strawberry moon, which I'm sure someone someone has used as the name for a psychedelic band.
  1:59am Cliff (moving to Prague!):

Gaylord did a fill-in on the Ichiban stream yesterday I think (I forgot about it and missed it, darnit)
  2:00am Cliff (moving to Prague!):

...by which I mean, Sunday
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 2:00am Julie:

oh awesome! glad to know that.
Avatar 2:00am Roberto:

Never for Ever was a fixture in my senior year college playlist. My housemates weren't as enamored.
  2:03am Cliff (moving to Prague!):

Yeah, it isn't a soulstice (winter or summer) without Gaylord, right?

And it's waaaay past my bedtime. Good night Julie & everybody up still!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 2:03am Julie:

nite Cliff, thanks for listening!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:05am mariano:

'Night! This Claire Voyant is lovely...
Avatar 2:08am slugluv1313:

good night, Cliff!
was just looking at Ken Fury's website -- his jewelry is amazing too! (lost wax technique, WAY cool!)
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 2:08am Julie:

wonderful west coast band, they need to put a new one out, it's been a few years
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 2:24am Julie:

@slug nice, isn't it!
  2:26am katharsis:

just met Jessie out here. thanks for your tunes. fmu fan from way back.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 2:28am Julie:

thanks for listening Katharsis!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:35am mariano:

Hey, Pink Moon! Perfect for the strawberry moon!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 2:37am Julie:

I decided actually playing Pink moon was too on the nose, but some Nick seemed a nice idea
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:41am mariano:

Good call, it was on the nose but not too on the nose! That expression though -- never fails to make me think of that scene in a Simpsons episode where Maggie loses a pink elephant balloon. Then it cuts to a boardroom, and a group of men, and one of them says "We need a symbol that says we're both gay and Republican." Maggie's balloon floats in through the window, and they all stare at it. Finally one of them says "A little too on the nose, wouldn't you say?"
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 2:52am Ken From Hyde Park:

Heyo! Better late than never.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 2:54am Julie:

yes, Ken! Thanks for listening everyone!
