great Dave Hill show tonight

Blissland, it's been a while!

shout out to past commenters, as far back as 2004
  12:10am
Blissland:

I too was a big fan of Ornette Coleman, David Bowie, and I didn't know it for a long time but PF Sloan too.
  12:11am
Blissland:

2004 was when everything started going good for me, but that all changed in 2008
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:11am

it's fast. you don't have to write anything. i never did until i turned my page into a memorial in january, and thought it needed some clarification.
...it's deconstructing now though.
  12:11am
MONEYBAG$:

just got back from a Residents show, happy to hear this nice normal music
  12:11am
Blissland:

Are you M or F?
  12:12am
Blissland:

If you're M you're probably offended by that question
  12:14am
Blissland:

where were the Residents tonight?
  12:15am

where are they ever, really?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:15am

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:29am
coelacanth:

i make noise. i play most things myself, if you can call it that.
how 'bout you?
hello rw!
  12:30am
Blissland:

Yes I love noise, I've been into that at least since the early 90s. Do you have a particular instrument that you like?
  12:31am

I've been trying to get somebody to break in my new studio ... it's like pulling teeth

  12:36am

it's slow, i think people are tripping out on the music
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:37am
coelacanth:

i should know better now. i do make "noise" in that sense, but i didn't mean it that way! i'm really all over as far as "genre" is concerned. i think my forté is "musique concréte"; but also "drone-metal"; "musique concréte drone"...(i'm making up these genre names!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:38am
coelacanth:

hey 'Jandro!
  12:38am
Blissland:

We should get together here with a couple people you know if you know anybody who plays something or sings
  12:39am
rw:

Hey Alejandro, coel, Blissland!

Blissland, the Frow Show often seems a little quiet on the comments board. I think it's because of exactly what you said.

  12:44am

coela oh I understand. Do you have a place to play you would be comfortable inviting me to?
  12:45am
Blissland:

if not that's ok, I just miss playing
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:45am

Jandro, i wish i could say i've made some available, but i hit some roadblocks. i have so many things partly done it's ridiculous.
Avatar 12:46am
Alejandro in TO:

for sure, I understand. Personally I find I need at least one other person to make music with, at least a drummer. On my own I can't accomplish too much to be content with, and I've rarely tried
  12:48am
Blissland:

I used to make music by myself for many years, but now I find I have no interest unless it's at least a trio.
  12:48am
MONEYBAG$:

I just listened to this Christopher jam earlier
  12:49am

Nice purple hue this evening Jesse.

who is Christopher
  12:51am
MONEYBAG$:

the son of the king
  12:51am
Blissland:

didn't sound like the same voice
  12:52am
rw:

Oh, and I started reading Heads! It arrived packaged loose in a box with a skateboard so it's a little bashed but it still works fine. The best part is that when I read it it sounds like JJ. Reverb and all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:54am
jj.:

awesome! i definitely had them master it with extra reverb!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:54am
coelacanth:

i guess i'm intimidated because i'm technically fairly terrible. i can play drums, a bit messy; and play bass almost adequately.
...your studio would be better, most likely, to my bedroom set-up.
let's talk about it again, before too long. please.
  12:56am
rw:

Very readable, entertaining and informative too. (So far anyway). Congrats!
  12:59am
Blissland:

I don't pass judgments as such. I've done many things with people who never picked up an instrument before ... starting in the early '90s ... and it led to a lot of amazing things.
  1:00am
Blissland:

We made 9 volumes of "Excretions" in nyc, which are akin to like freak-out jam sessions, no rehearsals
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:03am
coelacanth:

nice. is that out there somewhere? soundcloud?
  1:04am

I have a domain where I keep archives but at the moment no Excretions. But they could be uploaded. blissland.net...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:05am

Jesse, is that really the way "keijut" spells the name?!
  1:05am

I have a feeling you might like the Disposable Culture Preservation Society.
  1:06am

They were some of the first "mash-ups" done in the early '90s before the term existed.

Avatar 1:34am
Fox (Rā-chul):

My dad was a fan in the 70's when he was in highschool and it was a broke prog station (what Erwin refers to as the "dark ages" of WFMU). Evidently my dad and his buddy threw a fundraiser dance at a highschool somewhere in Union county for WFMU. So when I was in my early teens, he turned me on to WFMU.
  1:35am
Blissland:

Fox I didn't know all that. I first heard FMU in the early '80s.
  1:36am
Blissland:

This is better, I have the lava lamp on and the sound in the big studio monitors behind me
Avatar 1:37am
Fox (Rā-chul):

I mostly lived with my mom up in Sussex County, so I didn't get to listen often, but once I got a car, I'd drive down to Jefferson or Parsippany and park in a parkinglot stoned and listen to Joe Frank and Alan Watts every Thursday. And tape weird songs off the radio when I could, but I never really could remember which DJ was playing when. They always said it so infrequenly. Joe Frank and Alan Watts, though, that I could remember.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:37am

Carole King was such a master.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:40am

Joe Frank, Alan Watts, and also Ken Nordine, no?
(i always listened on thurseday too)
...then Pat Duncan.
  1:40am
Blissland:

I remember those days with Joe Frank and "The Late Alan W. Watts Lecture Series"
  1:40am
Blissland:

Joe Frank is still on twice a month
Avatar 1:40am
Fox (Rā-chul):

My Dad and his friend Jim that threw the fundraiser are in the picture with me on my profile. It's crazy that my Dad never ever told me about the fundraiser. It was only this past Thanksgiving when I was talking to Jim, and mentioned I'd been volunteering at WFMU that Jim told me about the fundraising.
Avatar 1:40am
Alejandro in TO:

woweeee this is somethin'
  1:41am

TBH, I find Joe Frank's schtick to be tedious, dour and not enjoyable nowadays. But that is just me.

absolutely
Avatar 1:42am
Alejandro in TO:

Thx for the story, Fox!
Avatar 1:42am

I still have some tapes of Joe Frank and Alan Watts somewhere, I think. I used to get stoned and listen to them while soaking in the bathtub, because otherwise I'd get too bored sitting in the bath.
  1:42am
Blissland:

Me too Fox, I have lots of them on cassette
  1:43am
JakeGould:

he may've been gone by '94. i have many tapes of his shows, but no on so far has acknowledged remembering his show.
  1:51am

  1:57am

That sounds great
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:57am

there's a little bit of digital clipping going on... but there's also some intentionally glitched out ambient fuzz on the original.
  2:45am

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:46am

i hear that but it doesn't bother me, and i think it's part of the composition - not a defect in the recording or broadcast.

I didn't hear you clipping, but a lot of overmodulation was going on during the God Dam Dave Hill show.
