Avatar 3:03pm Peter Nelson:

Hey John
  3:04pm John:

Glad to hear you, scratch, scratch.
  3:04pm Ryan:

Hi Peter
Avatar 3:05pm Parq:

Good afternoon-evening Mr. and Mrs. Nelson and all the ships at sea.
Avatar 3:05pm Peter Nelson:

Hi Ryan. Welcome.
Avatar 3:06pm Peter Nelson:

Good all day Parq
Avatar 3:06pm Sarah N:

Welcome Ryan and all fellow ears.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:06pm Doug Schulkind:

Lovely cover of the Jackson C. Frank weeper. Good evening, Peter and Sarah and all bodhisnatchers everywhere.
Avatar 3:07pm Sarah N:

Bark Bark Parq! Hey doggy Doug.
Avatar 3:07pm Peter Nelson:

Hello Doug. Yup...tapes found in someone's attic.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:24pm Rich in Washington:

Peter, been enjoying your shows. I am sad there aren't going to be on the GTDR stream!
  3:24pm Dean:

But they're better than GYBE, and they sound like Slowdive in just the right way.
Avatar 3:28pm Jesse K:

Hey Peter, I'm sorry to hear you go but it does makes sense. Btw, you played Cynthia Schloss's version of Sad Movies
  3:29pm Tony Coulter:

Yes, Peter -- very sorry to see you go. Perhaps you'll be able to do the occasional fill-in?
Avatar 3:31pm Peter Nelson:

Hi Rich, Dean, Jesse & Tony. Good to have you here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:33pm Rich in Washington:

Doing a three hour show every week is incredibly hard work, especially one as carefully curated as your show was last week, I would imagine.
I do hope you can find a way to do the therapeutic amount of radio that works for you, even if it's not as often as we listeners would like.
I know when I've gone through long spells of not doing radio or DJing, I jones for it something fierce.
  3:33pm Dean:

Hi and soon bye. Heading out on a road trip. Will miss this show, Peter. Very sorry to hear about your plight. Bodies. Can't live with 'em, can't live without 'em.
Avatar 3:35pm Peter Nelson:

@Rich...I've not heard the expression 'jones for it', but I think I guess your meaning. Yeah...me too...after a while i miss it terribly.
Avatar 3:36pm Peter Nelson:

@Dean. There's a brewery in UK called Bodingtons. They used to say "if you don't get Bodies you'll just get bitter." I thought that was funny.
Avatar 3:37pm Dishpig:

blimey! finally got the little buggers off to bed. Evenin'!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:38pm Rich in Washington:

I think it's from the American junky lexicon. Jonesing. Hmm. Funny expression, that. I'll have to look it up.
Avatar 3:38pm Peter Nelson:

Hey Pig. Truly great to see you.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:39pm Rich in Washington:

The New Oxford American Dictionary has “Origin 1960’s: said to come from Jones Alley, in Manhattan, associated with drug addicts.”
The more you know...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:39pm northguineahills:

Hmmm, using Chrome, one tab has the old home page, and the other tab has the new one.
Avatar 3:40pm Peter Nelson:

Hi ngh.
  3:40pm Dean:

OED on "Jones": "To experience the symptoms of withdrawal from heroin; (later also) to feel a physical craving for any addictive substance."

I know Bodingtons well. Yum.
Avatar 3:42pm Sarah N:

Hello Pig! Have a great trip Dean!
Avatar 3:42pm Dishpig:

Hello Listen!
  3:43pm Dean:

Thanks, Sarah. Was wondering where you were.
  3:45pm MrFab:

Hey ya, wasn't listening earlier due to technical difficulties. What's this about Peter leaving? You just got here!
Avatar 3:45pm Sarah N:

Yeah, I'm not being so chatty tonight, not yet, any way....
Avatar 3:45pm Dishpig:

Only a two hour show for yer finale?
Avatar 3:46pm Peter Nelson:

Hey Mr Fab. @Dishpig. I'll be here the full 3 hours. Some tasty classical to finish.
Avatar 3:47pm Parq:

Hah. The first time I ever (white blue collar suburban nerd that I was) heard "jones" in that sense was when Cheech and Chong released "Basketball Jones".
Avatar 3:48pm Dishpig:

Splendid! Timings say 3 til 5...gotta go put the little buggers back in bed now. They say hello ;)
  3:48pm Dean:

OED provides an example from 1971: "How many stayed off drugs after ‘Jonesing down’ at an Army amnesty center?"
Avatar 3:49pm Sarah N:

Hello to piglets from Aunty Listen!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:49pm Doug Schulkind:

Joanna did a wonderful live set on WFMU—gack!—eleven years ago. wfmu.org...
Avatar 3:52pm Sarah N:

She has a kaleidoscope voice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:53pm Gary:

Peter don't goooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!
Avatar 3:57pm Peter Nelson:

Hello Gary. Don't want to...have to.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:03pm Uncle Michael:

I wish you well in all your endeavors, Peter.
Avatar 4:04pm Peter Nelson:

Thank you Michael
Avatar 4:08pm Sarah N:

'Phat' sounds!
Avatar 4:10pm Peter Nelson:

By the way listeners, do I have to spell it out that this mix is autobiographical. Thank you to the tune-smiths for speaking for me, better than I.
Avatar 4:16pm Dishpig:

They're not saying "erm" enough for my tastes.
Avatar 4:18pm Peter Nelson:

erm erm erm erm erm erm erm erm erm erm erm erm erm erm erm erm erm erm erm erm erm erm erm erm erm erm erm erm erm erm
Avatar 4:19pm Dishpig:

Ah, that's better!
Avatar 4:20pm Sarah N:

ERM!
Avatar 4:21pm Dishpig:

So you're heading off to Pitcairn soon, but you're gonna be late, so you're setting a spaceship on fire in the hope that that's the fastest way there? It's enough to make a grown man cry!
Avatar 4:22pm Dishpig:

Just do some powder, you'll be there in no time ;)
Avatar 4:22pm Peter Nelson:

You go it.
Avatar 4:22pm Sarah N:

Whoaooooo-ooao!
Avatar 4:24pm Sarah N:

Hands in the air everybodhi!
Avatar 4:25pm Dishpig:

  4:35pm John:

Avatar 4:38pm Sarah N:

Love that Fender Rhodes freakout!
  4:40pm John:

Now's the time for your Whoaooooo-ooao Sarah
Avatar 4:41pm Sarah N:

Oh yes!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:43pm Rich in Washington:

Mashups continually befuddle my missus, esp. if one of the constituent elements is a song she loves. She'd hate this.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:43pm Doug Schulkind:

Sister Carol?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:44pm Uncle Michael:

I love this.
Avatar 4:44pm Peter Nelson:

Mashups can really plug people in.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:44pm Rich in Washington:

Hah! It's got Scotty in it!
  4:45pm MrFab:

hmm..."Queenz", eh? this is Loo and Placido's "Kids Rock" from circa 2008. has someone bootlegged the bootleggers?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:45pm Rich in Washington:

I had to DJ someone's wedding -- with really boring requests made beforehand - and mashups saved the day.
Avatar 4:46pm Peter Nelson:

@Fab. Is nothing sacred? :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:48pm Charlie:

Tuned in right in the middle of "Nincompoop" -- must be a sign.
Avatar 4:49pm Peter Nelson:

Something for all of us, Chazdredd.
Avatar 4:50pm Sarah N:

Hey Chuckles Loo-Iss!
Avatar 4:51pm Peter Nelson:

I played this live once...people stood around looking confused for a bit, then danced their feet off.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:52pm Charlie:

heLoo, Sarah!
Avatar 4:53pm Dishpig:

And yet they'll happily listen to One Dimension covering Blondie...the World's gone maaad I tells ye!
Avatar 4:54pm Peter Nelson:

@Dishpig. Not in an Anarchist club in Brighton they won't.
Avatar 4:55pm Dishpig:

More an Atomic Kitten crowd?
Avatar 4:55pm Peter Nelson:

Not 1, not 2, not 3 but 4 reggae re-jigs that I think improve otherwise dull tunes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:55pm Doug Schulkind:

Deee-Liteful!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:56pm Rich in Washington:

what a great set!
Avatar 4:56pm Peter Nelson:

Actually, the original of this is pretty fab.
Avatar 4:56pm Dishpig:

I was just about to pull you up on that one...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:57pm Uncle Michael:

The original Bootsy?
Avatar 4:57pm Peter Nelson:

But the album is awful.
Avatar 4:59pm Peter Nelson:

Let your hearts be light as feather, despite the imposters success and failure.
Avatar 4:59pm Sarah N:

La la la la la la Sizzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz-LA!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:00pm Doug Schulkind:

It's hasta la vista and not adios, Pedro.
Avatar 5:09pm Dishpig:

I do hope so. It's been a great few weeks of radio.
Avatar 5:09pm Peter Nelson:

Sadly, Lavinia did not include 'Mad Rush' in her arrangement, which is on the original Glass CD 'Solo Piano'. I particularly love this because Sarah plays it on the piano as a practice piece.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:14pm Carmichael:

Jaysis, had to sneak quietly past the FMU homepage to get here. I hope they fix their ailments soon. That being said, heya Peter and others of your ilk.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:14pm Charlie:

It's really great to hear this piece arranged for harp. Must find it!
Avatar 5:15pm Peter Nelson:

Hello Carmichael. You made it!
Avatar 5:16pm Sarah N:

Isn't it wonderful, Charlie? I love it even more than the piano version!
Avatar 5:16pm Peter Nelson:

Charlie....it's on the drive under Classical/Glass.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:19pm Carmichael:

Classical Glass.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:19pm Charlie:

Ah. Bueno.
Avatar 5:21pm Peter Nelson:

If anyone wondered about the pic I chose for this show....I identify with this painting. I kind of look like that, what with the stoop, and, like Newton, I am forced to look down a lot. Also, this image is reversed. That appeals.
Avatar 5:21pm Sarah N:

Talking of harps and Glass, my cousin Phamie Gow has played her scottish harp (clàrsach) with Mr Phillip Glass himself... so there!
Avatar 5:24pm Sarah N:

Our DJ has performed a Reverse Newton. Ooh.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:24pm Doug Schulkind:

Phamie Gow sounds like a 13th-century philosopher.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:25pm Charlie:

Is that like a half-nelson?
Avatar 5:25pm Peter Nelson:

No relation.
Avatar 5:27pm Sarah N:

I reckon so Charlie!

Cool Doug. Actually she's descended from Niel Gow (1727–1807) a famous Scottish fiddler and dancie (travelling dance instructor and bard) of the eighteenth century.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:27pm Doug Schulkind:

I was pretty close!
Avatar 5:31pm Sarah N:

Phamie is pronounced "Fay-mee" by the way, and "Gow" as in wow!
Avatar 5:32pm Sarah N:

She's even more famous than me.
  5:33pm Ike:

Hey.
Avatar 5:34pm Sarah N:

Hello Ike!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:35pm Uncle Michael:

Thanks Peter.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:35pm Carmichael:

At first glance. I thought you were playing Jandek.
Avatar 5:36pm Peter Nelson:

That would be Gary's area.
Avatar 5:36pm Peter Nelson:

Hello Ike.
Avatar 5:48pm Dishpig:

Marcel Marceau with "Whistling In The Wind" to finish?
Avatar 5:51pm Dishpig:

A suitably Peelesque ending I think
Avatar 5:51pm Peter Nelson:

Drat that CD player. I did check all these tracks worked beforehand, but that one slipped through. How embarrassing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:52pm Charlie:

Gotta run. Thanks so much for great shows, Peter!
Avatar 5:52pm Peter Nelson:

Thank you Dishpig. Yeah...I didn't notice for a while that you weren't getting any sound. I will fix this for the archive.
Avatar 5:53pm Sarah N:

Bye Charlie! Run free.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:56pm Doug Schulkind:

Emailed you a idea, Brother Nelson.
  5:56pm Ryan:

Thank you for the music Peter and Sarah
Wonderful wonderful Shows!
Avatar 5:58pm Peter Nelson:

Thank you for listening Ryan.
Avatar 5:58pm Sarah N:

Thank you for your wonderful ears Ryan and everyone!
Avatar 5:59pm Peter Nelson:

Over to you on time Doug.
Avatar 5:59pm Dishpig:

Well, it's been a blast, as ever. Don't leave it too long ;) I'll be in touch x
Avatar 5:59pm Peter Nelson:

Thanks Pig. Spater.
Avatar 5:59pm Jesse K:

Peter, This has been such a great run of shows, it's been a real treat to hear. Though I couldn't always listen live I'm going to miss being able to tune in on Tuesdays. Hope to run into you guys in the future even if not immediately. This Janácek is a great way to end, personal favorite!
Avatar 6:02pm Dishpig:

Woof Sniff Moo Sniff Sniff
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:22pm Brian in UK:

I remember Principal Edwards Magic Theatre singing a song about Kettering.
So pleased you had a go Peter. This is a special station and seems from the outside so bluddy demanding. You are the most important person here so it must be the right decision. Au revoir, my friend, see you on the comments.
PS Leoš Janácek's On an Overgrown Path is wonderful (played on FMU) but No.1 Keutzer Sonata is my favourite of the Quartets. Evokes middle Europe of the 1920s for some reason, that and Sherlock Holmes!!
