How do, Peter, Tony, and all!

VG checking in Pete - its hammer time - you can't touch this!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:01pm listener james from westwood:

And of course Doug!
Avatar 3:01pm Sarah N:

Everybodhi needs somebodhi to love!
Avatar 3:01pm Peter Nelson:

Hey Doug, James and VG. Welcome.

heard the yeasty girls Pete!
Avatar 3:02pm Sarah N:

Hello fellow bodhi poppers.

thought we were going into Ozric Tentacles then Pete!
  3:04pm Ryan Hardy:

Hi Peter!

more from the Laughing stoned Policeman!
Avatar 3:05pm Peter Nelson:

No VG, but I did play some Eat Static a couple of weeks ago.
Avatar 3:05pm Peter Nelson:

Hi Ryan
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:05pm listener james from westwood:

A Doubleclicks/Garfunkel and Oates double-bill would be quite something.

how many off shoot bands of OT have there been?
Avatar 3:05pm Sarah N:

Hey Ryan!
Avatar 3:06pm Sarah N:

Avatar 3:06pm Peter Nelson:

@ VG. 8?

were the Unulators one of the OT off shoots?

GRIME ME Tony - Grime me!

sorry Pete!
Avatar 3:08pm Peter Nelson:

Tis a tad grimey, in it.
Avatar 3:09pm Sarah N:

'Tis delicious whatever it is.
Avatar 3:10pm Sarah N:

Elvis say yeah!

This is as good as TCs show without the charity shop vinyl selection!

I know what he means!
Avatar 3:13pm Peter Nelson:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:24pm listener james from westwood:

This "Final Countdown" cover is new to me!! And quite delightful.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:25pm Carmichael:

Heya Peter, Sarah, Bela & Abigail.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:25pm Ike:

Hello! Sounds great.
Avatar 3:26pm Peter Nelson:

Holla Carmichael and Ike!
Avatar 3:26pm Sarah N:

Hello Carmichael & Ike.

@listener james - I agree!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:26pm Carmichael:

I'll bet the sparks don't fly like in Europe's version.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:28pm listener james from westwood:

Avatar 3:28pm Sarah N:

@Carmichael: yep, there's a video of them playing. All very relaxed.
Avatar 3:29pm Sarah N:

And the video of GWAR is fantastic! Best costumes ever.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:29pm Doug Schulkind:

Better than the original.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:30pm Carmichael:

Maybe the lead singer will cut the lead guitar player's head off. Again.
Avatar 3:30pm Peter Nelson:

Could be.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:33pm listener james from westwood:

Plastic sheeting is mandatory for the first five rows!
Avatar 3:34pm Sarah N:

Have you seen them in the flesh James?
Avatar 3:41pm Sarah N:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:44pm Carmichael:

This song is in the same key as my phone dial tone!
Avatar 3:45pm Peter Nelson:

How do you know? Did it ring?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:45pm listener james from westwood:

@Sara N: No, just in live-concert footage and concert reviews. The experience looked much messier for that range of seats than Blue Man Group!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:50pm Carmichael:

I picked up the phone to dial while F&S were playing. I said, "Well now, interesting accompaniment."
Avatar 3:50pm Sarah N:

@James: Had to look up Blue Man Group - I get the idea! Hmmm, I wonder what the messiest band is....
Avatar 3:51pm Peter Nelson:

Gonna change your dialing tone then?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:51pm Carmichael:

Used to be the Sex Pistols, Sarah. Right?
Avatar 3:54pm Peter Nelson:

There was punk band in UK in late 70s called Lemon 'something?' that threw all sorts of 'real time' human fluids about. Got banned a lot.
Avatar 3:55pm Peter Nelson:

Their act included self-harm. Nasty.
Avatar 3:56pm Sarah N:

Diwali, the Hindu festival of lights, probably wins hands down - thousands of Indians soaked head to toe in coloured paint, yeah!
  3:57pm Dean:

Kipper Kids could be pretty messy, but they tended to used processed matter: whipped cream, glitter, paint, Spaghetti-Os...
Avatar 3:58pm Peter Nelson:

Hi Dean
Avatar 3:59pm Sarah N:

I got spat on by Mick Jagger at a concert in the 80s, ha ha! Several feet from the stage in a football stadium.
  4:05pm Dean, er, Natas:

Okay, OT, but the Quicksilver reference is funny: http://www.esquire.com/news-politics/politics/news/a39012/weed-resort-corporate/
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:08pm listener james from westwood:

GG Allin carved himself a nasty little distinction in the stage mess category.
Avatar 4:13pm Sarah N:

Hmmm, makes those "Bathtub Shitter" chaps sound like nice boys.
Avatar 4:14pm Peter Nelson:

Here's an slightly interesting factoid from Sarah. Apparently, I share a birthday with real Enrico Caruso (and George Harrison).
  4:15pm Dean:

Debbie Harry and George Sand here
Avatar 4:16pm Peter Nelson:

@ Dean. That's cool.
  4:18pm Dean:

Cool, sure, but I'm neither as attractive nor as talented as either or both of them.
Avatar 4:19pm Peter Nelson:

Debbie Harry wasn't attractive for long. Ruined herself.
  4:21pm Dean:

Yeah, by Debbie Harry I suppose I mean Debbie Harry '76, which is unfair. But even then I wasn't as attractive, etc.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:21pm Carmichael:

My birthday also belongs to Mark Knopfler and George Hamillton.
Avatar 4:22pm Peter Nelson:

DH...Not a very attractive personality either.
Avatar 4:22pm Peter Nelson:

Great music though.
Avatar 4:29pm Sarah N:

I think Debbie Harry wears the haggard look pretty well, compared to some. She'd probably still look quite stunning now without the kabuki make-up! True of so many women....
  4:40pm Dean:

Similar story here re: Yes. I spied an 8-track tape of CttE in his beat-up VW beetle, asked to borrow it, and the rest is personal history. This was around '73/'74. Shared it with my buddies, with whom I shared tastes in pop and classical music.

A-l-m-o-s-t pulled the trigger on "Progeny," but can't quite justify the expense. I have a few Yes vinyl bootlegs of various vintages I enjoy. Those will have to do for now. Thanks for playing this.
  4:41pm Dean:

Oops: "his" refers to a neighbor kid, an older guy already out of high school.
Avatar 4:43pm Sarah N:

Glorious music. By the way, Chris Squires shared a birthday with Antonio Vivaldi.
Avatar 4:43pm Peter Nelson:

@Dean. Email me re. Yes set. Can happen.
  4:47pm Dean:

Will do, thanks. This performance sounds familiar. I might have vinyl from this show...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:06pm Doug Schulkind:

Better "Pisces" than Phish, I say.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:08pm Brian in UK:

That tree can tell the past; who wants to tell the future. G'day all.
Avatar 5:08pm Peter Nelson:

Hey Brian. Thanks for the you know what.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:12pm Brian in UK:

Believe me the pleasure is all mine. If only we had this over here. We did once with John Peel, I heard David Ackles & Hall & Oats amongst others on his show. Still play those records on occasion.
Avatar 5:15pm Peter Nelson:

Yeah, well...the BBC dropped the ball.
Avatar 5:16pm Sarah N:

Hello Brian!
Avatar 5:16pm Peter Nelson:

@ Brian. Tom Ravenscroft was once very complimentary about my show, bless him.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:20pm Brian in UK:

Hello Sarah.

Bask in the 'glory'!! Not heard him, I cannot find much joy in 6music.
Avatar 5:20pm Sarah N:

Incidentally, Chris Squire was a Pisces, as is your DJ, schooling our ears ;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:21pm Brian in UK:

We had hake tonight.
Avatar 5:23pm Sarah N:

Oi, don't eat my friends!
  5:23pm Dean:

Only just learned that Squire released a second solo record, "Chris Squire's Swiss Choir," a selection of Christmas/holiday music featuring Steve Hackett and Alan White! Who'd a thunk?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:23pm Carmichael:

Say THAT 5 times very quickly ...
  5:24pm Dean:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:25pm listener james from westwood:

Excellent to hear these sorts of mixes on the station, and in the US they hit right at that perfect time in the workday we'd otherwise look for brain sugar or caffeine. Thanks for keeping us all moving in mind and bod(y)!
Avatar 5:26pm Sarah N:

2:30pm your way James?
Avatar 5:28pm Peter Nelson:

You're welcome James. I have noted your fondness for the repetitive beats.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:29pm Doug Schulkind:

You know Peter, you said this was a gnu music show. But I am pretty sure that last piece was from a wildebeest. Get your act together, man!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:30pm listener james from westwood:

@Sarah: 5:30 out by me. I'm in the New Jersey Westwood; I think most folks are more familiar with the California one, if that's what you have in mind. Will have to visit it sometime!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:31pm listener james from westwood:

Goodness, that Laliotis track was a jewel, wasn't it?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:31pm Doug Schulkind:

Listener James from Eastwestwood.
Avatar 5:31pm Peter Nelson:

All wild animals represented here. I'll get my act a lotl together.
Avatar 5:32pm Peter Nelson:

@ James. Beautiful album. Simple, pure voice.
  5:34pm Dean:

LA's Westwood ain't what it once was, a hustle-bustle of shops and cafes south of UCLA, overrun with goddamn students, one of which used to be me. Maybe now that the economy is, for some, improving, the village is revitalizing, but my past couple of visits have been disappointing. Nearby, however, there's plenty to see and do in west LA, given sufficient time and money.
Avatar 5:36pm Sarah N:

@James: aha, yes, maybe when we do our US road trip!

@Doug: but a wilderbeest IS a gnu! Eclectic antelope music for Mind and Connochaetes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:37pm Doug Schulkind:

It would be stupendous to have a few pledges roll in for our hardworking DJ and his mighty fine radio show. All $s and £s go to WFMU, the radio station that makes Give the Drummer Radio possible.

With an hour of rare African 45s!

and then:

Jesse K will be playlist three hours of rare 45s from pre-revolutionary Iran!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:38pm listener james from westwood:

@Doug: The town just next door, River Vale, where I mostly grew up, in fact used to be called Eastwood! They changed it after it spent too much time talking to furniture.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:40pm Carmichael:

@JfWW: Westwood in California is the LA suburbs. Not really known for anything other than UCLA. Time and cash better spent in the north, San Francisco or Sacramento Valley (where I am). Lake Tahoe's just a jig away, also.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:40pm Doug Schulkind:

Wildebeests and gnus are both connochaetes, but is a wildebeest a gnu?

Stool: You staring at me, punk?
Clint Eastwood: I talk to the trees.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:40pm listener james from westwood:

@Dean: Thanks! In my one foray to Los Angeles, I didn't get into its environs. I did visit Venice, Santa Monica, Culver City, and many other burgs through which I drove while taking in the sights (inc. the Coroner's Office Gift Shop), but not as I recall the westmost Westwood.
Avatar 5:41pm Sarah N:

There's also a Westwood in Massachusetts!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:41pm Mike East:

nice Vibracathedral Orchestra here! diggin it, man!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:42pm Mike East:

There's an Eastwood in Hollywood, too, but he mostly talks to chairs, I think.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:43pm Mike East:

oh, sorry, Doug made that reference already. I need coffee
Avatar 5:43pm Peter Nelson:

Hi Mike. Doug...are you feeling OK....drugs kicking in?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:43pm Gary:

Just home from work, what do I get to hear live?
  5:43pm Dean:

You could do hella worse than Culver City, Venice, and Santa Monica, @ljfw. Having grown up in an LA suburb, I beg to differ with Carmichael. Westwood at least feels like it's connected to the sprawl of westside LA, perched as it is on Wilshire Blvd., not far at all from Santa Monica, etc.

Clint Eastwood changed his name to River Vale, too.
Avatar 5:44pm Sarah N:

I think I went to a UB40 concert at UCLA, which means I've been to Westwood, woohoo. Well I definitely went to the concert, and it was at a university in or near LA.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:44pm Brian in UK:

Got to cut out we have two new kittens what needs nurturing.

Top Shelf show.
Avatar 5:44pm Peter Nelson:

Hi Gary. Tara Brian
Avatar 5:45pm Sarah N:

Bye Brian!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:45pm Doug Schulkind:

Brian in UK has kittens AND WE HAVEN'T SEEN PICTURES? This is an outrage.
  5:46pm Dean:

Circling back, I saw Kipper Kids at UCLA long ago. And Piccolo Teatro di Milano. (Peter Falk was in the audience, and I got to meet him.) And a bunch of professors whose classes I took.
Avatar 5:47pm Peter Nelson:

I could pipe up with a 'yeah, show us your pussy' comment, but there's ladies present.
Avatar 5:47pm Monica:

enjoying your show, peter! first time listener.
  5:48pm Dean:

Kittens are gnu-born cats, right?
Avatar 5:48pm Sarah N:

@Dean: Nice link. Peter Falk?! That is cool. Gnu-borns, ha ha.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:48pm Webhamster Henry:

Hi Peter - I usually am distracted with work at this hour, but am enjoying your new-ish GTDS show!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:48pm Doug Schulkind:

You're gnuts, Dean.
Avatar 5:48pm Peter Nelson:

Hello Monica. See, I said there were ladies present. Thanks for listening.
Avatar 5:49pm Peter Nelson:

Hi Webmaster. Thanks.
Avatar 5:49pm Sarah N:

Hello Monica.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:49pm Doug Schulkind:

Santa Monica!
  5:49pm Dean:

Just trying to keep my zoology straight.
Avatar 5:50pm Peter Nelson:

You're gnext Doug.
Avatar 5:50pm Sarah N:

Hello Mr Hamster.

Doug's getting ready for a pun-packed show!
Avatar 5:50pm Monica:

hey there, sarah! love the sample on this track. "play that beat mr. dj" by globe and whiz kid!
Avatar 5:51pm Peter Nelson:

Thanks for the info Monica...I didn't know that.
  5:52pm Dean:

Okay, another off-color attempt at humor: A bunch of commenters on Diane Kamikaze's Thursday show on WFMU have names that begin with "c," and so they refer to themselves collectively as the "C section." Hmmm, what could we call a group of commenters who insist on appending a leading "g" to certain words?
Avatar 5:54pm Monica:

Avatar 5:55pm Sarah N:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:55pm Doug Schulkind:

Great idea, Gdean.
Avatar 5:56pm Peter Nelson:

Call this one a guilty pleasure. A bunch of guys in their 60s who haven't changed their sound a bit in 40+ years.
  5:57pm Dean:

Good one, Sarah! If not quite what I was thinking...
Avatar 5:57pm Sarah N:

And we're the Gnelsons.
Avatar 5:57pm Peter Nelson:

So long, and thanks for all the gfish.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:57pm Carmichael:

I guess to some this is ambient music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:57pm listener james from westwood:

The G Spot?
  5:58pm Dean:

Heard Metallica open for these guys in Hollywood ages ago.

Bingo, ljfw!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:00pm Doug Schulkind:

Do it now!
  6:00pm Ryan Hardy:
