Is it ALL going to be Iranian, or ...?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:03pm Doug Schulkind:

When it's Iranian, get an umbrella!
Avatar 7:04pm Peter Nelson:

Hi Jesse
Avatar 7:05pm Peter Nelson:

Thanks for saying 'Iran' not 'Eye ran'...makes me cringe, that one.
Avatar 7:05pm Jesse K:

Hey Peter, Gary Doug! Lots of unknowns on the playlist tonight sorry to say
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:15pm Donald Rumsfeld:

The unknown knowns are better than the known unknowns and vice versa!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:16pm Gary:

Rum's the word!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:19pm listener james from westwood:

Rummy, find out what's going on with the coffee consumption here, wouldja? todaysdocument.tumblr.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:21pm Gary:

That $100 of coffee a month in 1975 coffee prices
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:24pm Gary:

I'm loving this guy's voice
Avatar 7:25pm Jesse K:

Mehrpouya was a real crooner to start with, doing twists and Elvis style stuff. This Katanga is much later in his career when he really got some creative control
Avatar 7:26pm Jesse K:

The drums on this track are the thing...
Avatar 7:26pm Sarah N:

Hey, you talkin' 'bout me?
Avatar 7:27pm Peter Nelson:

Funny you should mention rum. Tonight's after show tipple in this establishment is a creamy, caramel and raisin Diplomatico Reserva from Venezuela:www.thewhiskyexchange.com...
Avatar 7:28pm Peter Nelson:

Corking tunes, Jesse.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:31pm Doug Schulkind:

The...drums...are...the...thing...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:34pm Gary:

Like, hippie?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:34pm Ĩkє:

Wait, who's in a bikini? Where?
Avatar 7:35pm Jesse K:

Yeah exactly, I think
Avatar 7:40pm Jesse K:

@Ike, photo now added to the top
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:54pm Ĩkє:

J/k but thanks. That's very colorful in 70s kind of way.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:00pm Gary:

Googoosh!
Avatar 8:01pm Sarah N:

Now at 15%!
Avatar 8:03pm Jesse K:

PLEDGE ALERT!!! Thanks to Peter in UK!
Avatar 8:03pm northguineahills:

I could never find cumbia 45s in Mexico, just plenty of other Mexican music. Most came in LPs or LP comps.
Avatar 8:03pm Jesse K:

I misplaced a Gougoush record, I'm distraught. Searching searching for the record with the song about taxis on it...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:06pm Gary:

Yay, Peter!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:12pm Gary:

You've got all of the classics on 45, sigh
Avatar 8:16pm Jesse K:

I FOUND TAXI!!
Avatar 8:17pm Jesse K:

As great as she is an upbeat singer, Gougoush's ballads are really the thing for me
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:20pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Gougoush is obviously Persian for 'gorgeous', right ?
Avatar 8:23pm Jesse K:

exactly right
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:23pm Gary:

This Taxi track is insane
Avatar 8:28pm northguineahills:

Thanks for the Gougoush! Gotta step out for a second!
Avatar 8:30pm Jesse K:

Sounds good, don't half step, now
Avatar 8:30pm Peter Nelson:

Me too. Off to the kitchen to make munchies.
Avatar 8:31pm Jesse K:

Eat one for me please! Thanks again Peter!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:40pm Gary:

And whatever this track, which seems to be picking up on the Curtis Mayfield "Pusherman" riff, is, is insane as well.
Avatar 8:43pm Jesse K:

This unrememberable track is the top center record in that photo at the top of the playlist
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:44pm Gary:

Mr. Mustache with the stripped shirt?
Avatar 8:44pm Peter Nelson:

Back with parched peas and salad.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:46pm Gary:

*striped
Avatar 8:46pm Jesse K:

oof, I'm feeling super clumsy with records tonight.
@Gary, that's our man!
@Peter, I feel like a parched pea right now
Avatar 8:47pm Peter Nelson:

I like your track listing 'can't remember...dammit'.
Avatar 8:48pm Jesse K:

Driving me crazy, I know I know but I don't want to guess and be wrong. It was a record I was looking for for a long time before finally snaring it
Avatar 8:49pm Peter Nelson:

Black Badger peas with vinegar and pepper. Northern English dish. Yum.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:50pm Gary:

Wow, wait -- that b&w cover you just posted is Ramesh?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:50pm Charlie:

I've spent years looking for records I couldn't remember the name of...
Avatar 8:50pm Peter Nelson:

Are you a little drunk matey?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:51pm Charlie:

just slightly.
Avatar 8:52pm Peter Nelson:

I certainly am. Charlie! Hey!
Avatar 8:52pm Jesse K:

@Gary, I have an informant that has vouched it's a Ramesh record
@Charlie, HI!!
@Peter, you're right, I think that's what's missing here
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:52pm Charlie:

Hi Peter! Sorry I couldn't catch any of your show live today.
Greetings Jesse and all. Thanks for the Iranian singles, Jesse!
Avatar 8:54pm Sarah N:

Who's drunk? What? Where? Hello Charliepops! Hic.
Avatar 8:54pm Peter Nelson:

I urge everyone to bung summut in the pot for Jesse and ramp him up to 100% now!
Avatar 8:58pm Jesse K:

Here Here! Bung in my pot!!
Avatar 8:58pm Peter Nelson:

This Iranian shit is the bit of a bee between the thigh and shin. Do you actually own these records Jesse? Wow.
Avatar 8:59pm Sarah N:

Pot in your bong!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:59pm Charlie:

Yes, what Peter said (re the pot).
Hi Sarah!
Avatar 9:04pm Jesse K:

PLEDGE ALLLLLERT:: THANKS CHARLIE!! Putting us over the 15% mark tonight!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:05pm Gary:

Yay, Charlie!
Avatar 9:08pm Jesse K:

This Aafat record really gets me every time
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:08pm Gary:

This Aafat ... [fingers pursed against lips, *mwah* motion]
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:19pm Gary:

This set is off the charts
Avatar 9:21pm Jesse K:

This Kourosh record was another one long searched for, finally attained, then his first three singles were reissued... Even better cause everyone can have one!
Avatar 9:22pm Jesse K:

This is his third single with a green cover
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:23pm Gary:

Something happened to your audio, Jesse -- it's become old timey Japanese
  9:24pm Jesse k:

Astoundingly I just had a kernel panic. Be right back folks, sorry!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:24pm Gary:

Not Japanese, Cambodian ... anyway, it's *coming from Doug's computer* ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:24pm Charlie:

Gary, you beat me to it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:25pm Gary:

Wait, no -- it's Thai.
  9:25pm Jesse k:

Restarting now, sorry!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:25pm Gary:

It's fucking great, whatever it is, but ... and I hate to say this ... make it stop? Please? Jesse!
Avatar 9:25pm Sarah N:

We understand Kernel Kaminski! No worries.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:26pm Gary:

Okay, you're back
Avatar 9:27pm Jesse K:

BACK with Soul Raga!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:27pm Charlie:

yeah!
Avatar 9:28pm Peter Nelson:

Groovy and slightly disturbing....that riff with some sitar-like instrument free styling...weird.
Avatar 9:29pm Sarah N:

Santana cover??
Avatar 9:29pm Jesse K:

It's Mehrpouya again, this time playing the sitar
Avatar 9:33pm Peter Nelson:

It was a sitar then? Surprising to me how much of this Iranian music sounds Indian.
Avatar 9:36pm Jesse K:

Bollywood songs were definitely pressed and distributed domestically in Iran. As well as western pop and rock and stuff
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:37pm Gary:

Persian & Urdu share many, many words, too
Avatar 9:38pm Jesse K:

Here's the Mehrpouya cover: www.discogs.com...
Avatar 9:44pm Peter Nelson:

Through Arabic, maybe, and both being Indo-European, but Urdu is definitely a Sanskrit route lingo, and Persian is not (linguist and Bharatofile here). I'm surprised at the amount borrowed from Indian musical culture that we've heard tonight.
Avatar 9:55pm Jesse K:

I'm gonna just make up a couple minutes for that kernel panic drop out if you don't mind
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:56pm Gary:

We don't mind
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:58pm Charlie:

please do
Avatar 10:02pm Peter Nelson:

Don't go! All night please.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:03pm Charlie:

thanks, Jesse!
Avatar 10:04pm Jesse K:

Thanks guys! I want to take you higher but I have to eat dinner!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:04pm Gary:

That was one of the greatest shows I've ever heard. Thanks!
Avatar 10:05pm Peter Nelson:

i have never heard an Iranian say 'boomshakalakalaka'.
Avatar 10:06pm Jesse K:

Ha! Thanks so much Gary! This was fun, should do it again sooner than later
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:06pm Charlie:

couldn't get no higher
Avatar 10:07pm Sarah N:

Orrrrrrrwwwwwsome thanks Jessepops!
Avatar 10:08pm Peter Nelson:

oooooo, going out with a run off groove. So cool.
Fantastic show.
