Avatar 9:11am Sue P.:

Chris - I didn't realize you did an all-Melvins tribute last Monday. I'm going to pretend it was a b-day gift for me and thank you.
Avatar 9:11am Chris M.:

surprise! happy birthday, Sue!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:11am Marcel M:

As long as you stay in the 9-12 times slot on any weekday I'm happy.. .but if that changes.... we'll have issues
Avatar 9:14am the Canterbury wood-elf:

New Telescopes?? I saw a live set from a 2-person version of the band in about 2003, after many years of inactivity, and they were fully electronic at that point. Nice to hear the guitars again...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:15am Ken From Hyde Park:

The Telescopes have me seeing stars!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:17am Marcel M:

@Canterbury Elf: I love their first record, Taste, but I heard some of that electronic stuff and it turned me off to them. Also glad to hear the guitars again, just ordered Hidden Fields.
Avatar 9:22am Chris M.:

thanks everyone for the welcome. happy to be here thursday mornings!

please come to my lecture tomorrow night. i'll be discussing my monograph on rare micro-invertebrate of newark puddles. i spent three years in the west tower of my castle preparing it and i think you'll all enjoy it. more info: www.meetup.com...

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:03am Marcel M:

I was just thinking that Josh!
  10:04am josh:

Glad it's not just me!
Avatar 10:04am the Canterbury wood-elf:

Me too! I've heard a very sloppy live cover of Powderfinger by MV.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:05am Polyus:

@Canterbury/Marcel - Stephen has actually been playing in the States as The Telescopes a fair amount the last few years, but with pick-up bands. Mostly just improv jam stuff, not all that good. Hopefully the new album is a regular functioning band. I did see one set here a few years back where he actually brought people over with him, and it was really good.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:10am Marcel M:

@Polyus: Cool, yes that would be really great if they did a tour over here with the lineup on this new record. I love Taste... its super aggressive and in the red... great record.

Its funny, on All Music the review says or used to say (they change them sometimes) that Taste sounded like teenagers making a record and their later records were better because they were more refined... its like, don't they get that all rock musicians are supposed to try to sound like teenagers?
  10:13am josh:

NY. Heh.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:20am Greg from ZONE 5:

Morning, Chris & people!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:22am Ken From Hyde Park:

Good morning, Zone 5.
Avatar 10:31am Cecile:

I know, Marcel. It's like with the Replacements. "Oh their records are better because their songs are polished." But the fact their songs were great but unpolished is what I liked about them.
Avatar 10:32am Cecile:

I think lots of times with gutsy rock 'n' roll the old critical tack used to be that you had to choose between polish and energy. I don't think that should be the case.
Avatar 10:34am Cecile:

is that the chris Connelly that used to be in 9 inch nails?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:35am Greg from ZONE 5:

Avatar 10:36am Cecile:

no shit. hahahhahha
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:36am Marcel M:

Avatar 10:37am Cecile:

I haven't heard this song in nearly 30 years.
Avatar 10:37am the Canterbury wood-elf:

One of my all-tome favourite Onion articles
"Jefferson Starship Memorial Reopens on National Mall"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:38am Polyus:

Mmm, that seems like a fireable offense.
Avatar 10:38am bobdoesthings:

what?! no bridge.. well .. probably for the best.
  10:39am nardo:

now just lay some vintage Toto on me Chris and were there
Avatar 10:39am the Canterbury wood-elf:

I wish I could time travel back to 1965 and play this to Marty Balin.
Avatar 10:39am the Canterbury wood-elf:

I wish I could time travel back to 1965 and play this to Marty Balin.
Avatar 10:39am PKNY:

Much better than "We Built This City". And I must say I like most of the JS stuff that has Marty Balin singing.
Avatar 10:40am Cecile:

PKNY, I really like Marty Balin, even though a lot of the stuff he sings can be crap. I even like his solo single "Hearts"
Avatar 10:42am PKNY:

@Cecile - can't say I'm well versed in the JS catalog, so I'm sure there's a bunch of stinkers. But I ride all day for "Miracles", "Hearts", etc.
Avatar 10:42am Cecile:

Exactly, me too.
  10:48am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- back to the Airplane, 'Comin' Back to Me', 'Today' - can't beat it. Great writer & singer too.
Avatar 10:50am Cecile:

yeah, really underrated.
Avatar 10:50am Cecile:

gonna listen to Hearts right now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:54am Marcel M:

Truly a non stop classic rock block
Avatar 10:54am Cecile:

Great opening line "Is everything alright?"
Avatar 10:57am Cecile:

Avatar 10:59am Roberto:

I need a break after that set. Too hard did it rock.
Avatar 11:00am bobdoesthings:

@chris m - you should try to get arty the beekeeper in studio.. he bee keeping it cool.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:02am Marcel M:

  11:10am Romeyn:

Avatar 11:38am Rev. Turnip Druid:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:41am Polyus:

So who has rights to put out Coil stuff these days?
Avatar 11:43am Chris M.:

@Polyus: good question
Avatar 11:44am Rev. Turnip Druid:

Seems like there's been several dodgy versions of Backwards floating around, & this release is meant to clear that up (?) -- would love to see a major reissue campaign, of course. So much of that stuff is insanely expensive.
Avatar 11:46am Rev. Turnip Druid:

Was lucky enough to jump on a few latter-day coil products when they were new, that have since become more than stupidly expensive. The material is too good to be reduced to collector-scumbag diamond trophies...
Avatar 11:48am Cecile:

any ideas to help with my asthma until I can pick up a rescue inhaler in about 6 hours? Internet said to drink hot coffee, and sit up straight. It's kind of helping.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:48am Andrew Waterloo:

The story is that there are two people who hold masters and rights to the Coil collection, one of them is Jon Whitney at Brainwashed, and I forget who the other is.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:48am Andrew Waterloo:

I could be wrong though.
Avatar 11:49am Cecile:

ITA, Rev. Just like how Sun City Girls stuff got in the 90s.
Avatar 11:53am Rev. Turnip Druid:

I've seen coil items like CONSTANT SHALLOWNESS going for insane sums. It's a fantastic release (tunnel of goats! All of them!), but so much monies..
Avatar 11:54am Chris from DC:

Seemingly impossible to find for a reasonable price, yes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:57am Ken From Hyde Park:

See you next Thursday, then.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:58am coelacanth:

Cecile yes that & nothing added to the coffee. i think very strong irish (or some other black) tea works better.
raw honey with lemon & LOTS of ginger.
"herba tussin" by
"traditional medicinals" is an excellent vehicle for ginger, honey & lemon.
do not eat,or eat very little. radish is good.
being outside is good- if outside where you are is reasonably pollution-free.
Good luck.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:59am coelacanth:

Thanks Chris!
Avatar 12:03pm Cecile:

thanks, coel!
