haven't been with you in the new slot. lovely opening.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:06pm Irene Trudel:

Thanks Dale! Nice to have you here tonight.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 9:08pm redkayak:

Good evening all! Nice to be here - while catching up on some work....
  9:09pm JakeGould:

Hey Irene! I think I was inspired by your sunsets to just do this like 15 minutes ago. instagram.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:10pm dale:

ooh, love the olde prog!
  9:11pm JakeGould:

Meet the new prog… The same as the old prog…
Avatar 9:12pm Mr. Elliot:

Trying to explain Genesis and Crimson to the 17 year old twins - firgidabout it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:13pm dale:

nice photo! reminds me, i or WE should have a space station flyover at 10:16

"Visible: 3 min, Max Height: 58 degrees, Appears: WNW, Disappears: SSE"

that's middletown ny but should be close for anyone in this area.
  9:15pm P-90:

...when Phil Collins was relevant.
Also Tony Banks and Steve Hackett at the height of their powers, when a pop band was actually allowed to sound like this if they wanted.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:19pm Irene Trudel:

Hi redkayak, Jake, Mr. Elliot & P-90. Nice sunset Jake! THanks for the heads up, Dale, although I may not be able to see it with all the NYC light pollution. P-90, yes this was prime Genesis and one of my all-time fave albums.
  9:20pm P-90:

Note how very Jazzy this is, without sounding at all like "Jazz-Rock", or "Fusion"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:21pm dale:

it's very bright, like a slow moving shooting star. my wife saw it once in the east village so jersey city should be an easy catch. just put on a long king crimson or elp song so you can check.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:21pm dale:

....maybe even renaissance if you need the extra time.
  9:22pm jon:

evening irene and all
  9:23pm P-90:

@dale: she did see it from the East Village? Hmm. Maybe I'll try from Morningside Heights tonight.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 9:23pm redkayak:

@dale - yes, seeing the ISS is very cool. Yrs ago there was a flyby where both the ISS and the shuttle were visible!
Avatar 9:23pm Mr. Elliot:

sigh I was 17 when I saw Selling Inglund live at the Academy of Music.... Girls born when I was 40 - guess that makes the concert 40 years ago. funny...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:24pm dale:

google 'spot the station' now - it may be a minute or two off from my time.
  9:24pm wendy del formaggio:

Irene, that was a beautiful segueway. I'm glad I'm able to tune in tonight.
Avatar 9:24pm Van in DC:

Hi Irene and peoples. just got in to home. Hope you all are well. I'll be listening but have things to attend for a while
Avatar 9:25pm Mr. Elliot:

Hey Van shout out from Cheby Chase (sic) ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:26pm Irene Trudel:

Didn't get to see Genesis that early, Mr. Elliot. I did see the next tour-- Lamb Lies Down On Broadway at The Capitol Theatre in Passaic, NJ. Yeah, hard to admit that was such a long time ago!
  9:26pm Andrew:

ISS pass 10:14 -10:23 here in northern Virginia. Max elevation 64 degrees. Cloudy, probably not visible today for me. I assume it's the same pass in New York.
Avatar 9:26pm Van in DC:

  9:27pm P-90:

@ DJ Irene: nice set, what a fine score for a late Spring evening, Summer waiting around the bend
Avatar 9:28pm Mr. Elliot:

Yes - so young and lucky to have stumbled on so many great shows back then - including at the dear old Capitol Theater...

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:30pm Irene Trudel:

Hi Wendy! Long time since you've been here! Hi Van and Andrew, I have my doubts about the night sky too. It's been grim in NYC until just about an hour ago.
  9:30pm P-90:

and Irma Thomas was my nursemaid. Oh, you mean literally...!
Avatar 9:31pm Mr. Elliot:

yup -Passaic River blues from the great Paterson Falls to the mouth of the Newark Bay - roll on great river roll on...

Hi Irene! Tuesdays I'm often out and about, but tonight I'm happy to be home.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:35pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...then I suppose so much depends on a buried red truck
- evening all - beautiful guitar...
  9:36pm wendy del formaggio:

Dale, thank you for the ISS stuff! I had no idea. I just signed up to have NASA alert me via text message when I can see it from my town. Light pollution isn't too bad here in SE VT, so...yay!
  9:36pm P-90:

I gotta go see those Falls sometime. Williams has become a little underrated, thanks for bringing him up. Anything in particular of his you'd care to recommend these days?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:39pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Hey RevRabbit! I'm in Brattylvania. I was up your way last week for an appointment at DHMC. It was one of those lovely gloomy drizzly days.

  9:46pm P-90:

"Brattlevania"? Never heard that one, is that what they're calling the Brattleboro/Bellow's Falls/Putney area these days?
Avatar 9:48pm Van in DC:

Fripp = Mr. Toyah Wilcox
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:49pm dale:

my first tape deck was a realistic. it had 'total harmonic distortion no more than 6%'!
Avatar 9:49pm Van in DC:

We never heard anything :)
Avatar 9:50pm Mr. Elliot:

Third or fourth Crimson ensemble actually! Love that 71 Marquee CD - just got it - there is also a 69 show from the same venue on Discipline.
Avatar 9:50pm Mr. Elliot:

Islands era is magic - followed by Starless...
Avatar 9:56pm Van in DC:

Toyah's Love is the Law is one of the most awesomenest albums ever. There has NEVER been a song with more energy that "I Explode". Just. Incredible. The whole album. Not that this group would know... (Julie would)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:58pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...as a git-tar diddler - gotta say, love Fripp like this...
  9:58pm Aquamarlin:

@DJ Irene
Had to sit outside my house for half an hour just letting the music take me. Played guessing games with who you were playing. My ears heard Starship, Genesis and Oasis and only Phil Collins and Genesis were right. Ha! Love the show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:01pm Irene Trudel:

I'll have to give Toyah a listen. Somehow I've never become a fan but I'll give your recommendation a chance, Van. Thanks Aquamarlin! I like to keep people guessing. Glad you like it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:02pm slosl:

Hi from Sacramento. Been listening to Irene's past shows over the last few weeks.

That are tremendous.
Avatar 10:03pm Van in DC:

Toyah pretty much invented Punk Rock. in the early 80s, and just at the time of KaTe. Toyah adores KaTe by the way.
Avatar 10:05pm Mr. Elliot:

Any thoughts on Tweedy's influence on the sound of this new Richard Thompson record? Or is this Richard just being Richard?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:07pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Cheers for new RT.
Avatar 10:11pm Van in DC:

Irene, just give the album Love is the Law a chance, by Toyah. I spent YEARS tracking that album down! Personally I find it incredible. I'm sure you guys will have it in your massive library. Love is the Law ... wow. Angels & Demons forever. Tiger claws, Lion manes...
  10:11pm wendy del formaggio:

Dale, Swanzey is where I go grocery shopping. :-)

P90, that's what I call my town, at least. Dunno about anyone else.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:13pm dale:

i'll be at the fairgrounds - stop by!
  10:13pm wendy del formaggio:

Speaking of Brattylvania, Sam Amidon! He's one of ours.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:16pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Wendy: Do you listen to 'All the Traditions' / VPR Replay stream?
...& isn't this a delightful set...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:17pm Irene Trudel:

Mr. E, I haven't had time to sit down with this new RT album yet. Just saw it for the first time tonight in the WFMU new bin. That track I played seemed totally typically gloom&doom Richard. He's playing in NYC next week.
Avatar 10:18pm Claw!:

Hello, hello, hello!
Irene, I gotta say - nights really suit you. This is just perfect unwinding music after a busy day. Folding some laundry now, and I am PUMPED. (^ ‿^)
  10:18pm wendy del formaggio:

RevRabbit, I'm kinda allergic to NPR...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:19pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

@wendy: Some are.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:20pm dale:

just saw mr. space station bright and shiny. i should have made a wish.
Avatar 10:21pm Van in DC:

NPR just had Sharon Van Etten recently. Anywhere SVE is, I am so there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:22pm Irene Trudel:

Wendy, Sam is playing Prospect Park Thursday with Bill Frisell + eighthblackbird with Will Oldham! Claw! Glad you're liking the show. I'm really happy with evenings now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:23pm dale:

i remember hearing jonathan schwartz once say 'silence is highly under rated when it comes to the radio.' you use it to full anticipatory effect irene.
Avatar 10:25pm Van in DC:

Ironically, doing a search of Toyah on twitter is how I found WFMU. Julie's Dark Night of the Soul. She was doing a special for Toyah. That is how I found this place.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:32pm Irene Trudel:

Dale, I've worked with the man every Saturday for many years. Something must've seeped into my consciousness. Plus Schwartz was one of those WNEW-FM DJs we all listened to back in the day. Certainly a "silence practitioner."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:33pm Irene Trudel:

Wow, I didn't know that, Van!
Avatar 10:35pm MikeY:

Damn fine band be here next week
Avatar 10:39pm Van in DC:

True, Irene!
Avatar 10:41pm Van in DC:

Olivia is just awesome
Avatar 10:41pm MikeY:

Its kind of funny first time in a few years listen in to your show Irene and your shows title is catch a falling star... Ive seen three tonight in the last two hours
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:42pm Irene Trudel:

Cool MikeY! I've only seen one or two in my lifetime and it's really special.
Avatar 10:45pm MikeY:

Its really cool I live in upstate NY and I get to see them about twice a year some cool showers of course theree is no outside lights to block the views
Avatar 10:50pm Van in DC:

I think I found it. My gateway into WFMU. Toyah, via Julie.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:50pm Irene Trudel:

Yes, visiting The Catskills is one of my favorite things to do, and it's spectacularly dark at night.
Avatar 10:50pm t_J:

Avatar 11:01pm Van in DC:

Okay, about to crash. Many thanks Irene. Will catch up tomorrow.

HI SEAN on archive!
Avatar 11:02pm Van in DC:

Ornette was a huge loss. Just catching that....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:04pm Irene Trudel:

G'nite guys!
Avatar 11:07pm Mr. Elliot:

WKCR as usual had its own 72 hour sendoff of Ornette in classic excellent 116th Street fashion. So much great music - fabulous gems w/Haden, Cherry, etc.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:09pm Irene Trudel:

I know, what an amazing body of work and collaborations Ornette had. I'm just dipping our toes in the water tonight.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:25pm Stanley:

Awake at 4.22 am over here. Thought might as well time in and glad I did. Hi everyone.
That last Ornette track reminded me where James Blood Ulmer got his style from.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:31pm Irene Trudel:

Ah, yes! I have a musician/friend up in Aberdeen. Welcome to the middle of your night!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:33pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

He was a pioneer - a beacon to nearly all Outside & Free players. Huge. & he didn't just Free Jazz to be nutty & different - he freed it to Express, to be Soulful, for Joy, for Lament...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:35pm Irene Trudel:

Rev.Rabbit, I hear this as Ecstatic music, totally feeling the moment.
  11:48pm mary:

who plays bass with Pat Metheny and Ornette? Matthew Garrison?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:50pm Irene Trudel:

Mary, it was Charlie Haden on bass, Jack DeJohnette & Denardo Coleman on drums & percussion.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:53pm slosl:

Thanks Irene! Things can be all right sometimes.
  11:56pm mary:

Thanks for the info, Irene...this past wkend jack dejohnette played with Ravi Coltrane and Matthew Garrison in DC...but I could not be there...and do not know of any other participants.
Though saw the 3 play together without others at Brooklyn Museum a long time ago...
