Listener comments!

good morning fellow listeners,
for your visual entertainment this evening: isopresso.tumblr.com

I really like this Lois Vierk. For some reason, though, it makes me feel like I should be going to sleep.
  12:09am
Tamar:

But of course I'm staying up.
  12:12am
JakeGould:

Those balloon animals! Clearly not made by a creepy guy in clown makeup that just shows up on main street on the weekends!
  12:28am
P-90:

Good morning Rich and Carcassians. The visuals are terrific, so far beyond Jeff Koons' facile and soulless balloon pieces.
And somehow I've managed to live long enough that Philip Glass pieces like this feel nostalgic. "Golden oldies."
  12:29am
rich:

no he obviously stays away from main street and probably the sun holed up in a very small, constraining room where time means nothing because he is this close to completing a full-size balloon sculpture of a naked mole rat.

And he screams at the sight of a pin.
  12:39am
P-90:

He might awaken shaking, in a cold sweat, from "pinmares"
  12:46am
JakeGould:

@P-90: Eh, Koons is perfectly fine. I like his take on pop culture. And his balloon dog is just iconic as a common balloon dog. This balloon artists kicks it way up a notch.

Steve Reich was upset when he composed Two Pages & then Philip Glass stole it from him

No foolin
  1:05am
P-90:

Koons reproduced balloon animals and inflatable toys in metal, which is fun and as you say, Jake, invites a re-appraisal of disposable pop culture trinkets. But those pieces are executed by craftsmen to Koons' specs; Isopresso's balloon thingies are original designs and forged (we presume) by his own hand. They're real likable and warm. No disrespect meant to Jeff K's schtick.
  1:11am
JakeGould:

@P-90: Well, tons of artists use fabricators. Louise Bourgeois did not build all of those spiders on her own! I just can't see conflict between Koons mimicking pop culture and this balloon artist creating balloon animals. I'm not into conflict between expressions of ideas.

Hi.
  1:13am
rich:

koons probably cannot hear a pin drop (unless it hits his metal balloon sculptures), isopresso hears every pin drop within a five mile radius

Hi RRN63! Are we now out of retrograde Mercury? I'd swear I really saw the effects this time.

What's all this hullabaloo in here?! OK, come clean -- which one of you reprobates dared Rich to play a set of face-melting hot rock jams?!
  1:20am
JakeGould:

The retrograde Mercury went bye bye on June 11th. If that explains my insomnia earlier this week, then hey… I buy that nonsense.

Yeah - Mercury's Direct again. The Sun is Conjunct Mars - very aggro. It was very weird when Mercury was Stationary - that's when it doesn't move @ all when it stops going Retro & just starts to 'turn around' & go 'forward' again...

Really? What happens? Mercury spends how much time turning around & goes the other direction for how long & how long does it spend turning back & what happens?

P-90:

"3 & 4 Musketeers" was originally one big movie. When the producers realized they had enough stuff to split into two movies, Chris Lee and the other actors sued successfully for more pay, because even though it was the same amount of work, they had contracted to appear in one, not two. The producers wound up getting paid for two releases, the actors felt they should too. Interesting that the way it worked out, the first movie had almost all the lighthearted comedy moments, the second had all the dark and tragic outcomes. So they're an unusual diptych. And the whole process inspired them to plan "Superman 1 & 2" as one big production.
  1:50am
JakeGould:

Too bad the whole “Superman 1 & 2” idea was just… Meh… And then only got worse.
