A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Alice Coltrane carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

Trouble! Check out Willensky's on Fairmount West. Classic old diner whose main offering is "The Special" -- a grilled baloney and cheese sandwich. Hold up two fingers, and it will be understood that you want two of those.

Avatar 10:38am Claw!:

Buenos dias, Fish! :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:38am sphere:

@bobdoesthings - a gluten-free gravy is possible so yes, i think you could have gluten-free poutine....
Avatar 10:38am d¢ pät:

"wheat oil" You better get right on inventing that @bobdoes..
Avatar 10:39am bobdoesthings:

@sphere - ahh the gravy.. right.
@dc pat - will do! .. I mean.. how hard could it be?! through some wheat into a machine.. bada bing bada boom.. wheat oil comes out.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:40am coelacanth:

Hey Bear! how goes it?
Avatar 10:40am bobdoesthings:

*throw (argh english language!!)
Avatar 10:41am d¢ pät:

Yeah but first you have to invent a wheat oil press
Avatar 10:42am hortense de montréal:

i wish for bread fried in wheat oil
Avatar 10:43am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- no more sticky pasta ever.

@JohnArthur: Kewl track!
Avatar 10:43am d¢ pät:

I think you only need about 5 million grains of wheat to get a drop of oil..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:43am coelacanth:

wheat has oil in it,but it's such a minute amount that using it for frying would cost $zillions. it's also very unstable so it shouldn't be heated like that.
(if anyone cares!)
Avatar 10:44am Claw!:

It goes! And rather well, I'd say!
Just started my new schedule where I get to work from home two days a week (Tues and Thurs). It's... pretty great. I'm getting so many more records priced now that I don't have to help customers while I'm at the shop. I'm so productive, and I haven't even had my coffee yet! All this, and I'm still in my PJs. This gig is the cat's ass!

And how about you, my fine fishy friend? How are things on your end today?
Avatar 10:45am bobdoesthings:

@coelacanth... so you're saying I should target a more niche demographic.. have really nice presentation/packaging.. I'll also need a hoky gimmick and spurious health benefit claims..
Avatar 10:45am bobdoesthings:

Huge mark up ontop of the already huge overhead.. how did DeBeers do it... we just need to create new "demands" for my product..
Avatar 10:46am Claw!:

@bob - Just tell everyone that wheat oil will "detoxify your body." That claim seems to work well for many other spurious health products...
Avatar 10:48am bobdoesthings:

@claw - well of course it is the best detoxifier on the planet... that and is the new standard priced gift at all weddings.. and sweet 16s.. the lucky ladies of the world expecting their new traditional bottle of Bob's All Natural Wheat Oil
Avatar 10:48am bobdoesthings:

OH OH!! It also is the best lubricant for weapons and tanks and the military needs it too.. I'm really onto something here.
Avatar 10:49am the Canterbury wood-elf:

Reinventing the wheel?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:50am coelacanth:

Bear! i'm happy you're happy! that's a sweet set-up.
...and i'm just getting ready to head out of town to work 'till friday. -not ideal but this week should be fairly enjoyable,as work goes.
Avatar 10:50am Claw!:

I'd throw in the word "artisanal" somewhere in your product name. You could easily ask for twice as much for it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:51am coelacanth:

bob you're onto something! wheat oil has lots of vitamin e so the detox angle should work.
Avatar 10:52am Claw!:

Right on, Fish. Do you usually have to head out of town to go to work, or is there something different going on this week?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:53am Trouble:

biz markie june 17! free! thanks priscilla
Avatar 10:54am d¢ pät:

oops, wood-elf is right. Already been done. CANCEL EVERYTHING.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:54am coelacanth:

(...you don't have to mention that the vitamin e gets destroyed- turns rancid, when you heat it that much.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:54am sphere:

well, emphasize that wheat germ oil is a raw food and you'll get those folks in too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:55am Priscilla:

Something for everyone
  10:55am Dean:

"Artisinal" and now "Purveyor," yeesh. Saw a sign yesterday that read, "Artisinal [SOMETHING] Purveyors." Can't even remember what the SOMETHING was...beverages, maybe? As in "a bar."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:55am maestroso:

Whoa, scary Morricone.
Avatar 10:55am Claw!:

Good thinking, sphere!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:56am Tome:

I'm thinking dill gelato,, since it's the only thing growing well so far ,,,, and the mint of course ,,
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:56am Webhamster Henry:

I like these Morricone choral soundtracks better than the Carl Orff ripoff soundtracks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:57am Tome:

.. sure it's been done already ,,
Avatar 10:57am bobdoesthings:

Bob's All Natural, Artisinal Virgin Wheat Oil. From the season's first wheat flush

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:59am common:

Avatar 11:00am bobdoesthings:

@claw - oh yeah.. "fair trade" as long as I'm a few pennies higher than the standard I think I can technically get that badge right? Isn't there a lot of BS that says 'fair trade" but in actuality they're not much better than other suppliers..?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:01am Trouble:

today's artist carmen herrera is mentioned in this recent fab article in NY Times: www.nytimes.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:01am coelacanth:

Bear!,these days it's most of my income. my sister has money & her friends have money and i've taken advantage of that fact! but i've gotten pretty tired of not being home for days at a time most weeks. (i sleep at her house)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:02am Guido from Cologne:

Thanks for the show Trouble!
Finishing work.
Avatar 11:02am Claw!:

I think remember seeing something about that, yeah. I'll have to look into it, though - can't really remember what that "Fair Trade" hubbub was all about.

Yo, common!
Avatar 11:04am βrian:

So last time it was a Cooper's Hawk stalking the next-door chickens. This time it was a fox at the break of dawn. Keep your girls safe.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:04am Ken From Hyde Park:

I saw some breakfast cereal that listed wheat berries as an ingredient. I thought they were usually referred to as wheat kernels.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:05am sphere:

Got some news: Flying Saucer Attack is returning with a new album on 7/17! I, for one, am celebrating.
Avatar 11:05am βrian:

I've only heard of them as wheat berries.
Avatar 11:06am d¢ pät:

wheat berries are the excrement of wheat, where as the kernels are the guys that start the wars against some people's organs.

I can imagine how exhausting that is, Fish. I am no stranger to making long commutes for a paycheck. That's why I am so grateful for my boss basically letting me make my own schedule and stay at home more. I am lucky, and he is a good dude.
You'll still be lurking on the boards Thursdays, though, yeah? Maybe? I've been seeing you less, and I'm assuming it's got to do with this work/travel schedule of yours...?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:08am Webhamster Henry:

Hey Claw! - did you know the Renee French WFMU gopher is also the mascot of Google's language GO? blog.golang.org...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:11am Stevel:

Just hearing Trouble's voice relaxes my brain. Thank you! The music is pretty OK too.
Avatar 11:12am Claw!:

Yeah, Webmaster - that article was on FMU's Twitter feed on the homepage awhile back. That's how I found out about the little critter. :)
Although *some* people on this board thought the gopher was a chicken nugget with bones sticking out of it. Heh... I guess I can kinda see it... :-P
Avatar 11:12am βrian:

Getting one's do is good.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:15am coelacanth:

Bear! -it's been something like this for 3-4 years now! the only difference is that in the winter i don't work much. now i try to work 10-15-hour days,to make up for it.
(it's more complicated than that, but-maybe another time!)
  11:15am KMart:

Hi trouble is it you or Frangry that makes collages?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:16am Webhamster Henry:

WFMU had a mascot contest a many years ago (long before this year's Muuro the dalmation), the idea being to make some merch with it and be a puppet spokesperson. I submitted a nice sloth design, but I think in the end, I think the station ran into the usual budget crunch and the project got tabled.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:16am coelacanth:

@11:12...or a corn-nut!
Avatar 11:17am Claw!:

I see. Yeah, ya gotta make up that time somehow...
No need to get into all the gory details - I'm just happy to catch you on here whenever you can get on! :-)
Avatar 11:17am Claw!:

Heh... Yes, a corn-nut. That was another one. hahaha
Avatar 11:18am Claw!:
