Street interviews, listener call-ins, vinyl gluttery, sporadic normalcy, original floperas and fiktion, blatant talking over songs, politix, tenderness, and a vague undercurrent of angst. Right up your alley!

I like this guy. I'll unite with him.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:05pm Fuzzy:

Quiet in here -- everybody must be out protesting.
Avatar 6:05pm Slick Goldtooth:

Man really caught lightning in a bottle, Clay. This is a great interview.

I also gotta say if there wasn't a more appropriate time to play Zappa's Trouble Everyday, I don't know when

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:06pm Matt from Springfield:

Hey Pigeon and Pigeonnaires!!

I've been so busy on many Thursdays (including this one!), but at least I can stop by and check in--keep recordin' the good fight, Clay!
Avatar 6:07pm Marcel M:

Clay, do you think Lars is deep cuz he bought art?
Avatar 6:08pm Clay Pigeon:

No, Marcel. I'm just flawed, so I accept Lars'. Hope you are well, man! Hello all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:08pm Mike East:

flawed...aren't we all.
Avatar 6:08pm Marcel M:

Hehe. You too Clay. Glad I can catch the show today.
Avatar 6:09pm Marcel M:

Woah Rock Opera.. what a name!!

The Commoner. What's up?!
  6:11pm Gee Lampa:

Clay, Todd has a new side-project record w/ a couple of Norwegian cats called "Runddans". Drops on Tuesday. It will take you straight back to 1975. I heard a preview. It's the best thing he's dropped in decades.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:11pm Matt from Springfield:

Remember, things are only beautiful *because* of their flaws!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:12pm Matt from Springfield:

@Gee: BWHOA! Really?! That sounds most interesting to me as well!
  6:12pm Gee Lampa:

@MFSpringfield a very eastern perspective.
Avatar 6:12pm Clay Pigeon:

Sounds great, Gee!
Avatar 6:13pm david_:

ahhh the sweet tape hiss
  6:13pm P-90:

Wow. Killin' it with these interviews, Clay.
  6:13pm Gee Lampa:

You can stream it all via New Yorker website, Matt.

Scroll down a bit.
Avatar 6:13pm Cheri Pi:

Clay you are a national treasure
Avatar 6:14pm david_:

International treasure!
Avatar 6:15pm Clay Pigeon:

Glad you like the hiss, David! TY P-90! Cheri, David ... too kind.
  6:15pm Marcel M:

I like how you decided not to edit that Clay. Keep it real!
  6:15pm Gee Lampa:

Can't wait for that 50's era vision of the future, where we're all bald with big metallic collars and look like clones.
  6:16pm BriJet:

Loving these interviews!
Avatar 6:16pm Clay Pigeon:

TY Marcel
Avatar 6:16pm drewo:

The NYPD has been using this "catch & (eventually) release" tactic at protests for years now. Even if/when charges are (eventually) dropped, this tactic serves to discourage future would-be marchers from going out on the streets. The fear of arrest and the prospect of a night in the pen is an effective tool of mass discouragement.
Avatar 6:16pm Clay Pigeon:

HiBri! Thanks.
  6:17pm V Priceless:

Hi Clay!
Avatar 6:17pm Clay Pigeon:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:18pm Matt from Springfield:

"Eastern perspective", I can go for that!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:18pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Anyone want to volunteer to be Clay's photographer on these interviews? It'd be cool to have faces to go with these voices.
Avatar 6:18pm david_:

This young lady is super cool.
  6:18pm P-90:

Yo Clay! When are you gonna stop asking questions about realities that aren't 100% yours?
  6:18pm Gee Lampa:

They say a lot of black-owned businesses were spared, but many Asian-owned ones went up in smoke. There's resentment there. Those businesses make money from the community, but won't hire from it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:18pm Matt from Springfield:

@Gee: And thanks for that link!
  6:19pm Gee Lampa:

YEAH! Stop tryin' to understand, bro.
  6:19pm JakeGould:

“A little melanoma should not lead to this…” I think she meant melanin. Not skin cancer.
  6:19pm P-90:

@Gee: Just "resentment", or possibly also racism?
Avatar 6:19pm Fredericks:

Thanks for mentioning television/media, Clay. The old divide and conquer routine. You may want to check out Cultivation theory.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:20pm common:

good work, clay
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:21pm Matt from Springfield:

@P-90: Both/and/also/however.
Avatar 6:21pm david_:

"Are you OK with Hillary?" *long pause*
  6:21pm JakeGould:

I’ve always wondered how much the whole Roman Catholic history/legacy/culture of the police forces in many cities contributes to this.
Avatar 6:21pm Clay Pigeon:

Hey Fredericks! Yes Jake, I heard that, too. P-90, I know what you mean, I think.
  6:21pm Gee Lampa:

That depends on the definition, P. Many define racism as bigotry in action, committed by people w/ power. No power = no ability to commit "racist" acts.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:22pm Matt from Springfield:

@Fredericks: And YES about TV, the programming gets you worried, the commercials offer solutions--that's how it's done in America.
Avatar 6:23pm cosmic matrix:

  6:23pm Gee Lampa:

@Matt I mean flaws being necessary for beauty. It's an integral aspect of eastern art.
Avatar 6:23pm david_:

The Cracker State of NJ- like Carr's table water crackers
Avatar 6:24pm Slick Goldtooth:

I do love the smell of the nabisco factory on 208
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:24pm common:

"i got my teeth broken in the night' jesus. what a horrid image. so much said with those words put together. wow.
  6:25pm Gee Lampa:

@Slick pass it every AM!!
Avatar 6:25pm david_:

Baltimore... home of Edgar Allan Poe... learned that on the Dusty Show :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:26pm Carmichael:

The National Biscuit Company. Buncha crackers. Hey, did I hear new Todd?? Jumpin' on it, Lampa!
Avatar 6:26pm Clay Pigeon:

Teachable moments, david.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:26pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Crackers are a family food, happy families. Maybe single people eat crackers, we don't know. Frankly, we don't want to know. It's a market we can do without.
Avatar 6:26pm david_:

"listen to those helicopters." "what's that? i can't hear you over the helicopters."
Avatar 6:27pm Slick Goldtooth:

@ken So that's it, so long and good luck?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:27pm Ken From Hyde Park:

I don't recall saying "good luck."
Avatar 6:28pm david_:

The more you know... On Today's WFMU™
  6:28pm JakeGould:

Whoa! This NYPD announcement sounds quite dystopian.
Avatar 6:28pm Slick Goldtooth:

It's tough to call NJ flat out republican cracker state. Sure there's some real tight ass whitebread areas but there's definitely a good deal of diversity to balance things out. There's also the the reality how this state has a history of being a blue state and if you wanna go back a bit in history it was usually a swing state.
  6:29pm Gee Lampa:

@Carmichael there's "Global" which is yet another vanity disco record, but the one called "Runddans" will impress. Comes out Tuesday.
Avatar 6:29pm Clay Pigeon:

It was creepy, Jake.
Avatar 6:29pm Marcel M:

That announcement was unreallll.

Great show Clay.
  6:29pm JakeGould:

Came in a wee late. Has anyone mentioned, tomorrow is May Day? Wonder what NYC is going to be like then.
Avatar 6:29pm Slick Goldtooth:

@ken A Milhouse Divided might be one of my all time favorite episodes, you want me to show it to the cat? cause the cat's gonna get it
Avatar 6:30pm david_:

Lots of disembodied voices emanating from armored vehicles and helicopters these days... Orwell is... lying still in his grave.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:30pm Matt from Springfield:

@Gee: Oh, flaws AS Eastern art, that does make sense.

@david: Clay provides one long "The More You Know"...in a way that matters to us!
Avatar 6:30pm Slick Goldtooth:

@Jake Break out that May Pole
Avatar 6:30pm Clay Pigeon:

HAven't mentioned it yet, Jake.
  6:31pm Nate:

Love ya Clay! Great work! This is what you do best!
  6:32pm bren:

Dusty documnting history ... Respect
  6:32pm JakeGould:

@SlickGoldtooth: You know of anyplace where fair maidens with flowers in their hair will be dancing around a pole in NYC? Because I would like to be there.
Avatar 6:32pm david_:

Many more people at this gathering responding in the negative to "do you love America?" I think it was James Baldwin who said something about the American nightmare.
Avatar 6:32pm Clay Pigeon:

TY Nate and Bren.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:32pm Philthy woman:

Yea- back in time to catch the tail of the Dusty Show! Greatful to hear this all Clay. Important honest voices.

Avatar 6:34pm glenn:

ooops. plant.
  6:34pm Gee Lampa:

@Glenn Robert Pant-Suit.
Avatar 6:35pm david_:

Robert Pant would be a good member name for a Zeppelin parody band.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:36pm Carmichael:

Hey Jake, Emilio Estevez' bday is May 12th.
Avatar 6:37pm Slick Goldtooth:

The frustrating thing is most people are stuck here. Unless you have direct ties like a relative or being born abroad, or you're an award winning surgeon or work for a company lucky enough to sponsor you outside of the country, you're in for a giant uphill climb that might not turn into anything.
Avatar 6:37pm glenn:

it would be, wouldn't it?
  6:40pm Gee Lampa:

Clay is doing a better job than all of the major news networks. Easily.
  6:40pm Chad8:

This coverage is better than any I've seen on cable. These people are talking to Clay about the real issues.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:41pm Mike East:

exactly right, Chad8...for this, Clay deserves a Peabody, imo
Avatar 6:41pm david_:

Avatar 6:41pm dale:

just sat down and turned my ears on. what'd i miss?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:42pm common:

go to the archives for this 'un, dale!
  6:42pm JakeGould:

@Carmichael: Really? No problemo!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:42pm Matt from Springfield:

NO commercial or institutional distortion! You want Clay to go out and broadcast these kinds of interviews? It's your pledges that buy our independence to do so! It's his street interviews and Occupy coverage that really make me proud this is truly a "listener-sponsored" station--and NO ONE else!!
Avatar 6:42pm david_:

giving the Arsenio Hall woop. love it!
  6:43pm JakeGould:

Robert’s Pants: A Led Zeppelin cover band where everyone wears pants.
  6:44pm Gee Lampa:

@Jake versus sun-dresses?
  6:44pm Gee Lampa:

@Jake jorts?
Avatar 6:44pm Clay Pigeon:

ty matt and all. the story is there to record. not hard. the micro-cassette is pretty distorted.
  6:45pm SeanG:

Clay, will you be doing interviews at the Rec Fair?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:45pm melinda:

Great to hear from people on the street in the moment. Thanks for doing this Clay.
Avatar 6:46pm Clay Pigeon:

Not sure, Sean. TY Melinda.
  6:47pm Todd:

Bringing me back Clay. In 2004 I was an on the street flip phone correspondent for WFMU's Republican National Convention feed. I did lots of live street interviews with protesters and supporters of the GOP, and random political celebrities like Lynn Samuels. The Cosmic Cowboy was manning the board, and he got arrested the following day when we went to a march together on our bicycles
Avatar 6:47pm david_:

Avatar 6:52pm david_:

Murrow's "Good night and good luck" = Clay's "Always remember"
  6:52pm JakeGould:

Jeggings. You know maybe if we all wore those sweatpants that look like dress pants we could find peace in the world.
Avatar 6:53pm Marcel M:

@Jake hahaha
Avatar 6:53pm david_:

Not sure I can be down with the respectability politics stuff... but I get where these folks are coming from...
Avatar 6:54pm Marcel M:

Whaat is that club music
Avatar 6:54pm Marcel M:

Is that in the crowd?
Avatar 6:54pm Marcel M:

Ah no.. haha I'm an idiot.
  6:55pm JakeGould:

I will say this: I’m pretty calm when I see ladies wearing Aztec print leggings. Don’t know why. But I am.
  6:56pm JakeGould:

@Marcel: I have never wanted to punch someone more than when I see hipster guys around NYC wearing those “dress sweatpants.” And I am not against hipster clothes. Just that looks stupid. Get real pants, hipsters.
Avatar 6:57pm northguineahills:

@Slick: My wife is from Mexico, and got a Masters here, and let's just say immigration has been a huge headache....
Avatar 6:57pm Marcel M:

@Jake: Couldn't agree more. Its like, sweatpants are now fashionable and okay to wear out? I've seen it all...
  6:58pm BriJet:

This speech is great too!
  6:58pm BriJet:

Great show, Clay!!!
Avatar 6:58pm Marcel M:

Avatar 7:00pm Clay Pigeon:

  7:00pm P-90:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:01pm Matt from Springfield:

  7:01pm JakeGould:

If you wear sweatpants as a normal thing, I don’t understand. And all my criticism is about mainly white hipsters wearing those dress pant-like sweatpants. So bad. So stupid.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:02pm Ken From Hyde Park:

The Mercury Messenger mission from NASA also ended today. The probe crashed into the surface of the speediest planet.
