Good Morning / Afternoon / Evening Everybody!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:10pm Greg from Bloomfield:

Happy Mardi Gras! Never had any desire to do Mardi Gras until I watched Treme. Now it's on my list.
Avatar 12:11pm kat330:

@Liz: A belated merci for airing my HHotRS last week! Given that you opened this week w/ a version of HotRS, it's also a fitting listen for this Fat Tuesday. So here's a link for anyone who missed it: freemusicarchive.org...

  12:15pm Mark:

Haunted House of the Rising Sun was excellent!
Avatar 12:18pm kat330:

@Mark: Thank you! That makes my Mardi Gras (as will this program and the gumbo I'm fixing later). It was a lot of work layering all the tracks, but I was sort of pleased with the results.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:20pm Liz Berg:

Nice fill-in yesterday, Faye!
  12:23pm slawooy:

im gonna divorce and remarry your todayz playlist
Avatar 12:23pm kat330:

I loved Faye, her show was really cool and interesting. Was that yesterday or Sunday?!
Avatar 12:29pm Claw!:

Liz, my clicky-star finger is exhausted.
For the sake of not breaking it, I'm just gonna go ahead and favorite this whole damn show now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:30pm Liz Berg:

D'oh! You're right, Mark, Faye's fill-in was on Sunday!
Avatar 12:30pm kat330:

Yeah, I couldn't locate it yesterday and found it Sunday's fill-in for Gaylord.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:31pm Philthy woman:

Good time to check in - I hear. Hi peoples,
  12:31pm Mark:

Anyway, I wish she was on more often. She said she was filling in March 2nd for Chris M from 9-noon. Mark your calendars.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:36pm nickybones:

Aw man, missed the Faye fill-in! Thanks for the heads-up, Mark!
  12:37pm Spencer:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:38pm blee:

Chocko Me Feendo Hey
Avatar 12:45pm Claw!:

God damn, Liz. You always play the coolest shit.
Avatar 12:46pm kat330:

Re: "chocko Me: "Jock-a-mo" by James "Sugar Boy" Crawford came out in 1953, and the lyric was spelled Jock-a-mo fi no wan an dey
Jock-a-mo fi na ney. Found an interesting tidbit about the lyric origins: a linguistics professor who thought they definitely came from a West African language. Back in the US, a professor of Creole Studies thought it came from a mixture of Yoruba and French Creole, and proposed the following breakdown:

Enòn, Enòn! [Code Language!]
Aiku, Aiku nde. [God is watching.]
Jacouman Fi na Jacouman [causes it]
ida-n-de [We will be emancipated.]
Jacouman Fi na dé Jacouman [urges it; we will wait.]
  12:49pm oks:

alla pugacheva ( soviet diva) million roses
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:49pm blee:

Wow, I thought it was just a fun garbled thing to say. Those words are rather profound, Pardon my ignorance.
Avatar 12:51pm kat330:

@Blee: Actually the site goes on with other interpretations: Wikipedia says some mysterious, unnamed "creole lingua specialists" endorse the following French-based Creole interpretation:
Ena! Ena! [Hey now! Hey now!]
Akout, Akout an deye [Listen, listen at the back]
Chaque amoor fi nou wa na né [All the love made our king be born]
Chaque amoor fi na né [All the love made our king be born]
That certainly sounds plausible. But also possibly from a Native American language where "chokma finha" means "very good." God I love the Internet! (thank you, Al Gore ;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:54pm blee:

@kat330 - the internet is a rather amazing portal. I love how we have the ability to delve into such vast information with such minimal effort.
Avatar 12:57pm kat330:

@Blee: (And I always thought it was "Giacomo, so I got an education)

@oks: Spasibo!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:59pm Philthy woman:

the Projects are a UK band, from what i read. It seems 'A million crimson roses" is a cover of the Russian song 'A million scarlet roses'. Alla Pugacheva's version is on Utube if you wanna check that out later- it's something!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:00pm Liz Berg:

Thanks for all of the research Kat and Philthy!
Avatar 1:01pm Peteski:

I like this. Liz!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:02pm Philthy woman:

I think I know how to make an ass playable instrument, im thinking a cross betwee an accordion and a kazoo. Im still working out the details, but im reasonably sure its doable.
Avatar 1:48pm kat330:

This is very nice (McElroy).
Avatar 1:50pm kat330:

To my ear, there's less a whale sound than, sometimes, a deep pig grunt.

Avatar 2:14pm steve:

can you put a 4/4 kick drum behind the emergency broadcast system sounds?
  2:21pm rf:

woop woop!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:23pm Ike:

Hi everybody! @Steve, I'm pretty sure that's, like, totally illegal.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:24pm Liz Berg:

I wish I wish I wish I was allowed to remix the EAS machine!
Avatar 2:25pm Chris from DC:

Ooh, that would be a fun remix contest.
Avatar 2:25pm steve:

so would it be legal to remix it and play it on the air outside of the official test?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:27pm Ike:

Hmm, good question.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:27pm Liz Berg:

You could remix it but you could never play it over the radio, otherwise we'd get in trouble for messing with the system.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:28pm Liz Berg:

We once got a record that played the EAS beeps in the background, and even that could have made the system go haywire. It's actually audio-based, so the tones are being read by EAS units at other stations.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:31pm Ike:

Maybe this is a remix contest mission for the Give the Drummer Radio stream!
Avatar 2:32pm kat330:

These guys can be lord of my horse any ol' time.
Avatar 2:34pm steve:

ooo nice one Ike. way to be resourceful!
Avatar 2:36pm steve:

thats a shame Liz. oh well.
Avatar 2:38pm Claw!:

Awwww yeeeeaah
Avatar 2:40pm Mdurek:

Avatar 2:43pm kat330:

Was that during the infamous Orson Welles broadcast?
Avatar 2:44pm Chris from DC:

If anyone has a copy of that zombie alert please get in touch.
Avatar 2:44pm maltempinulla:

I love a good Emergency Broadcast. It reminds me of my days as a crumb construction worker.
Avatar 2:44pm kat330:

[not a serious question]
Avatar 2:46pm kat330:

OK, thanks for this BergMeister Mardi Gras program, Liz. Off keyboard now to whip up a big batch of gumbo for my NOLA-fest with Philo tonight. :)
