...on YouTube watched a BBC doc about TheKinks - & the Class situation in the 1960s element really was made explicit ; wunna them things you accept instinctually, but is remarkable when pointed out. They/Ray reacted almost in real time to those struggles & impressions - & that's part of what makes their Music so powerful & enduring. The Beatles were lower-WorkingClass Northerners who became like Royalty, & ThyeKinks of course were 'Muswell Hillbillies' - & of course all Society was in uproar in the 1960s (altho' the Economy was great) - &tc &tc. ...

...wull - The Beatles were maybe more MiddleClass (is that what semis indicates??) than people think (esp. John) - but they sure gambled their futures on Music...

...& the unique situation of TheKinks not being able to tour America in the crucial 'British Invasion' years resulted in different artistic decisions than others too...They came to America (we're talking 22-year olds or something), & their Manager abandons them !!...

@ 10/23/14 5:22am Julie: I'm only at the start of the archive, but in the first two-song match-up, I thought your "So Mystifying" had a bit more country than G.'s pick. But yours was my pick IAE. :)

@Julie & Gaylord: An archival delight -- thanks! Re: your harpsichord discussion: I believe they still have kits reasonably priced where you can put together your own. But you can also get a decent simulation from various synth keyboards. I use either a Korg or a Yamaha for my own harpsichord-backed tracks, and the latter keyboard is only $150 or so.
