A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Alice Coltrane carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:46am Brian in UK:

Do you have a metro/underground system there?
Avatar 9:47am sugarwolf:

Wow it's nice to have another beautiful day when listening to Trouble. So glad the if it's Tuesday it must be snowing winter is over.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:48am Dominick:

@Brian UK - yep
  9:50am r i s k y:

Damn Trouble you got this gringo boppin around over here! Epaaa!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:52am davex:

@Brian: Summer arrived overnight here - quite warm and sunny today. And funny you should ask, they finally opened the "city tunnel" here a few months ago after around a decade of construction. But it is not really an underground system with only four underground stations for local trains to cut through town. There is an extensive tram (streetcar) system, though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:54am Brian in UK:

We are moving back to trams around the country, especially in Manchester.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:56am Brian in UK:

Davex the metro that is under construction in Istanbul is a wonderment. Digging through three cities has unearthed so many treasures, the Archaeology museum cannot cope.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:56am davex:

That sounds like a good idea. We're actually spoiled for public transport here. We rarely need a car.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:57am common:

man, this is good stuff!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:58am davex:

Funny you should mention that, too, Brian, since I'll be headed that way in June. Have you been there recently?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:59am robyn:

morning everyone. looking forward to joe!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:59am Brian in UK:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:26am Whosondephone:

Great! Great! Interview.
Avatar 10:29am Van in DC:

  10:31am Travis:

The name Joe could not recall is probably Iris Chacon. Buster Poindexter did a song about her on "Buster's Spanish Rocketship." Travis / Albuquerque, NM
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:38am Trouble:

thanks travis! harvey has a story about buster poindexter and iris, he will tell us
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:41am SeanG:

muy chevere!
Avatar 10:47am Deacon Dave:

Avatar 10:47am Neg-guh-tor:

Get Joe to talk about his hustlin' days in the Dragons! How he got money from gangsters like a lot of Doo Wop was funded earlier (see 'Save the Last Dance with the Devil', Nick Toches).
Avatar 10:48am Neg-guh-tor:

Were there any gangsters that helped him? Got him breaks and the like?
Avatar 10:50am Neg-guh-tor:

BTW The Toches book about the Mob and Doo Wop would probably really interest your guests and yourself. Quick read and super interesting. www.amazon.com...
Avatar 10:50am Neg-guh-tor:

'Save the Last Dance for Satan' is the name of the book. Ooops!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:51am LilyAbigale:

Well, now I have some insight into who the members of Tower of Power were listening to
Avatar 11:00am Neg-guh-tor:

'Waiting on a Friend' could be the connection to Subway Joe.
  11:01am Doug C.:

I hope he gets that house out of the Stones after the screw job they did on the Verve for the licensed samples on Bittersweet Symphony.
Avatar 11:06am Neg-guh-tor:

Thanks, Trouble! Great to hear those guys.
Avatar 11:07am Van in DC:

Avatar 11:09am Jeff:

Those darned kids, always with their phones:

Avatar 11:09am Van in DC:

This is fantastic
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:12am holland oats:

woah has mac heard this one?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:21am Doug Schulkind:

Mr. Bataan, thank you for playing my friends Cathy & Adam's wedding in '93!
  11:27am Eric:

yeah then it was Merengue, and now Bachata and Reggaeton and Cumbia, I wonder why kids from Spain don't pick up more on that like the Brits did with American R&B
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:29am Lewis:

what a great conversation!!
Avatar 11:35am Dervish:

Ask Joe, what is the story behind the harrowing song "My Opera."
Avatar 11:43am gongoleer:

where do the last poets and babs gonzalez factor in with your musical journey?

When are U, Joe and other 60's-70's musician going to do a gig in FLorida for the growing Hispanic population. No Miami is not the only city. Debary, Deltiona, Daytona Beach. I miss NYC's salsa scene, but have been privy to many platic collector music inlcuding Joe, you and many others ggowing up in Black Harlem 125th St.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:45am Trouble:

no real crossover with last poets and babs, joe says. worked at same time, but not together
Avatar 11:46am gongoleer:

were they influences at all?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:47am SeanG:

get down
Avatar 11:49am gongoleer:

for clarity I'm referring to his alleged first rap record etc. Last Poets and Gonzalez were rapping at that time though it wasn't called rap till much later. More like Beat Poetry. What comments has Joe got to offer on this subject?
Avatar 11:57am Dervish:

Unbelievable. Unbelievable. Unbelievable. Thank you.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:57am northguineahills:

Thanks Trouble, Joe, & Harvey. Kickass!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:59am Lewis:

Thank you ALL
