Avatar 10:02pm Dave Mandl:

Good evening and welcome, everyone.
Swag For Life Member 10:02pm 12539:

Evening, Mr Mandl.
  10:02pm Carmichael:

Heya Dave.
  10:03pm P-90:

Evening, @ DJ Dave M.
Avatar 10:04pm Dave Mandl:

Hey there, 12539, Carmichael, P-90.
  10:04pm doca:

hyia pharoah dave and all the overlords.
Avatar 10:05pm Dave Mandl:

Evening, doca.
  10:07pm doca:

daniel's was such a good show and now yours is starting this way, i'm sensing i won't be able to sleep the time i thought i would
  10:08pm P-90:

"Sleep? We don't need no stinking sleep, Senor."
Avatar 10:09pm Dave Mandl:

Yeah, sleep is overrated.
  10:09pm doca:

haha @P-90 from where is that?
  10:10pm doca:

say that to the guy (me) who is suspecting is developing insomnia
Avatar 10:12pm Dave Mandl:

@doca: "Treasure of the Sierra Madre" reference, no?
  10:12pm JakeGould:

  10:12pm P-90:

Originally spoken by Mexican bandit(o) in John Huston's Treasure of Sierra Madre, parodied by Mel brooks in Blazing Saddles
  10:13pm Carmichael:

@doca: go watch the Magnificent Seven.
Avatar 10:13pm Dave Mandl:

Evening, Jake.
Avatar 10:14pm Dave Mandl:

It's also in the original novel by B. Traven ("We don't need no stinkin' badges.")
  10:15pm P-90:

In the novel and the film, the bandito claims that he and his bandito gang are "Federales." When asked to show their badges...
---Like Mandl says
Avatar 10:16pm Droll:

...and Blazing Saddles (We don't need no stinkin' badges)
  10:17pm doca:

@Dave and P-90: never saw the movie neither read the novel, but I know the reference. I know the author was a very mysterious guy too, neither his wife knew his real name it seems.
  10:18pm doca:

@Carm: I've seen the Magnificent Seven, great movie. And I think it's way better than the Seven Samurai.
  10:18pm P-90:

So: it's become a meme or a trope or a running gag or whatever you want to call it: (in Mexican bandito accent) "[Blank]? We don't need no stinkin' [blank]!"
  10:20pm P-90:

See? It's become so much a part of the culture that you know the gag even though you haven't seen the movie or read the book...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:21pm pacific standard simon:

Also the name of a Dan Hicks band -- The Stinking Badges!
  10:21pm doca:

Hahaha "We don't need no stinking movies/books, señor"
  10:22pm doca:

I'm always amazed by this "B. Traven was the pen name of a presumably German novelist, whose real name, nationality, date and place of birth and details of biography are all subject to dispute."
Swag For Life Member 10:22pm 12539:

(DPV3.5 = Dub Plate volume 3.5)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:23pm pacific standard simon:

@doca - Re: Seven vs. Seven -- BLASPHEMY!
  10:23pm JakeGould:

I once met a guy on a roof in Williamsburg. At a party. He was wearing a cowboy hat. I asked to see his badge. He said “I don’t need no stinking badge!” And stormed off saying, “You won't have Nixon to kick around anymore.” Big buzzkill that guy was.
  10:24pm P-90:

@ pss: there you are! Yeah. I forgot about the musical "Stinking Badges."
I do remember the musical "Honeymooners" though
Avatar 10:26pm Dave Mandl:

@12539: Ah, really? Thanks. I had no idea.
  10:26pm doca:

@pss: I always say that with a lot of confidence because it's a polemical argument.
Avatar 10:27pm Dave Mandl:

Yeah, B. Traven was a very interesting guy. An anarchist. His other novels are just as good as that one.
  10:28pm JakeGould:

Some guy in my building screamed like Ralph Kramden stubbing a toe a few days back. But this was not that funny. Kind of creepy. But I swear, just like Ralph Kramden.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:29pm pacific standard simon:

I read The Death Ship and a pile of short stories; enjoyed 'em all.
  10:29pm doca:

@Dave: I never read him, I'll get some of his stuff. Been trying to reconnect to political fiction.
  10:32pm JakeGould:

PSS, now I have some new audiobooks to download.
  10:32pm P-90:

No way, no how am I going to enter the 7 vs. 7 debate. Religion, politics, and "The Seven Samurai" are sacred-cow topics best left off the Comments, It can only lead to misunderstandings, hurt feelings, ruined friendships, broken marriages, the collapse of Civilization As We Know It, and long pointless exchanges of useless opining. And agita. Don't forget agita.
Avatar 10:34pm Droll:

...trying to reconnect to political fiction. HA! Have you tried commercial new media?
  10:37pm P-90:

Mickey Dolenz famously does the "sinking badges" gag in the very first episode of The Monkees": Season Two
Swag For Life Member 10:37pm 12539:

Wow, I never heard James Blackshaw sing before.

(I guess I should add a smiey face)
  10:37pm doca:

@Droll: didn't get it eheh I've said that meaning books who deal quite directly with political/economical issues. I'm reading the Mars trilogy by Kim Stanley Robinson, if that counts as an example.
@pss: haha OK, I don't want to get in that discussion either. It just that, nevermind all the relevance and technical feats of the Kurosawa movie, I only found the Magnificent Seven a more neatly packed and pleasurable movie than his.
Besides, I think Kurosawa's has not aged as good as Ozu's or Mizoguchi's (but we don't need to get into that discussion eheh)
  10:38pm P-90:

..."sTinking badges", you know what I meant
Avatar 10:38pm Droll:

HEY! The comments board ate my 's' in 'news' and P-90's 't' in 'stinking'. Internet sux! Kenzo! You fix interwebz!
Swag For Life Member 10:39pm 12539:

It also ate the l in my 'smiley'
  10:40pm P-90:

Usually I only have that problem when using the IOS app from Ipad, but I'm on desktop, so: mebbe just sloppy typing...
  10:40pm doca:

Can I blame the comment board for not getting right almost all of the English tenses?
  10:42pm P-90:

"Tenses? We don't need no stinkin' tenses, Senor!"
  10:43pm doca:

P-90: laughing hard here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:43pm Andrew Waterloo:

@P-90, that would feel better if the tense was wrong.
  10:43pm P-90:

@ doca: Actually, your tenses look pretty good. They're tricky though, aren't they? Heh heh heh
Avatar 10:43pm Droll:

[sigh] I hope DM will just edit the comments later so it all makes sense when the people of the future Google (or whatever they do in the future) it.
Avatar 10:44pm Dave Mandl:

@Droll: Don't tempt me. Copyeditors never sleep.
  10:46pm P-90:

@Droll: The People of the Future want the raw text, pure and not expurgated or abridged
  10:46pm doca:

@pss: They are quite easy, but actually I('ve?) never learned the difference between them.
Swag For Life Member 10:46pm 12539:

Is copyeditor one word?
Avatar 10:47pm Dave Mandl:

Sometimes two, but more often one, I think.
  10:49pm P-90:

@ doca: assuming that was meant to be funny--actually it's hysterical
  10:50pm P-90:

@ DJ Dave: Ted and the gang really rocked that one
We ARE listening, not just commenting
Avatar 10:51pm Droll:

DM, I knew I could count on you!

P-90, That's impossible because some changes are unintentional. In fact, Kenzo recently fixed a bug which left a playlist conversation about the bug without context. Even though the conversation was unchanged, the conversation no longer makes sense. History on the internetz is not as constant as we wish it were.
  10:56pm P-90:

@Droll: maybe Kenzo was just covering his own ass in that one particular case
And you are correct, Sir, in the future, they will have moved beyond Google, they will use an advanced system called "Potrzebie."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:57pm Cory:

P-90, ever think about rolling it back a notch?
  11:00pm doca:

Well, gonna get off the comment board. Thanks for all the conversation and thanks for the great music, Mr. Dave Mandl.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:00pm pacific standard simon:

Hope not.
Avatar 11:01pm Dave Mandl:

@doca: Thank you. Have a great night/week.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:02pm Andrew Waterloo:

This song is GPOY
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:06pm pacific standard simon:

Came back to the computer from a bowl of soup in time for the Krokofant track -- intense, man.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:15pm pacific standard simon:

A Google image search for "Krokofant" yields surprisingly hilarious results.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:16pm Rectitude WaKES uP:

aND TURns the RaDio ON....Hello humanbeings.... krokofant alikeES
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:16pm Andrew Waterloo:

I wonder if the future of search engine is to simply make something up when there isn't enough search results.
Avatar 11:22pm Droll:

Yes, I was also trying to calculate Krokofant, Something like 4/8, 5/8, 3/8, 8/8... I don't think that was it. Jezzz, they go fast.
  11:23pm That Bipolar Guy:

Hello mister Mandl:( I'm sorry I missed almost all your show:-(
  11:23pm Carmichael:

These are some great comments. Anything that gets people to watch great movies and listen to great music is greatly worthwhile.
Avatar 11:24pm Dave Mandl:

Hi, @TBG. No sweat. You'll just have to listen twice as hard to the rest of it.
  11:24pm That Bipolar Guy:

Someone uploaded all seven seasons of the show. mission impossible on youtube I've been watching since. 9am this morning
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:25pm pacific standard simon:

That sounds punishing.
Avatar 11:27pm Droll:

TBG, That's one of the all-time great theme songs!
pss, Like an impossible mission?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:29pm pacific standard simon:

Like one of those guys who in Mexico who has himself crucified to celebrate Easter.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:30pm pacific standard simon:

Wow, mangled sentence. I trust you guys to figure it out.
  11:30pm That Bipolar Guy:

@Droll I haven't seen tbd show in over 30 years was surprised when I found all 7 seasons uploaded. Sure was fun watching it
  11:31pm Carmichael:

The best theme song EVER is the theme from Mannix. Case closed.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:31pm Andrew Waterloo:

Mission Impossible is one of those shows I'd watch just because the theme is memorable.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:32pm pacific standard simon:

Thanks to Netflix, I watched every single Monkees episode. Consecutively.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:33pm Andrew Waterloo:

@Carmichael, even better than Route 66?
Avatar 11:34pm Droll:

pss, No sweat, Mandl's gonna stay up all night editing that crap so we look smart(er). Check out the archives, he has some pro voiceover guy overdub all his mic breaks.
  11:35pm zbs:

Peter Gunn loyalist here. Seven seasons of "Mission Impossible," starting this morning sounds about right, isn't that like 120 hours ? We'll check back to see if you're spazzing yet Thursday
  11:35pm Carmichael:

@Andrew: oooh dude, its an upbringing thing.
  11:35pm zbs:

I'm glad the math problems are so easy
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:35pm pacific standard simon:

The best theme is Alfred Hitchcock's. Don't even try to compete. And don't forget Hawaii 5-0!
Avatar 11:36pm Dave Mandl:

@zbs: Easy for you, maybe.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:36pm Andrew Waterloo:

Nah, the best theme is Rockford Files with Hearty White singing along.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:37pm pacific standard simon:

The rats! The rats in the walls!
  11:38pm P-90:

Hoyt Curtin's "Jonny Quest" theme should not go unmentioned here
Avatar 11:38pm Droll:

The Rockford Files theme was a legit pop hit before it was a theme song. As long as we're enumerating them, can't forget Quincy Jones' theme for Sanford and Son.
  11:39pm Carmichael:

I firmly believe that Hearty White is my crazy uncle. Or maybe one of the voices in my head. Or both.
  11:40pm zbs:

Maimi Vice? Axel F? Oh wait.

290 + 2 = 292
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:41pm Andrew Waterloo:

In Canada, if you want a free bag of chips you have to be able to add, multiply, divide, and subtract.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:41pm pacific standard simon:

@Droll - you think the session musician playing bass harmonica on the Sanford theme might be the same guy who played on The Beach Boys' "Surf's Up"?
Avatar 11:42pm tomB:

Theme from Perry Mason. Later performed by Danny Gatton.
  11:42pm P-90:

"Good Times" theme is an extraordinary piece of work: It somehow compresses this really huge Gospel rave-up into 50 seconds, or whatever it is
Avatar 11:42pm Dave Mandl:

I know who the bassist on the Sanford and Son theme was: Chuck Rainey. But that's the extent of my knowledge.
Swag For Life Member 11:42pm 12539:

Trépidoptère sounds like a timid dinosaur.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:43pm pacific standard simon:

For you, Andrew:

  11:43pm zbs:

I guess I can't get the timid dinosaur emoji in this thing
  11:44pm P-90:

@125etc.: Excellent, Dude!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:45pm Rectitude:

www.youtube.com... .........................This was RErun on swedish televisin when i was a kid..... i loved the show..... just feelt like sharing ,,, Being on the INTERNET and all.......

PSSST simon, I would totally barbecue w/ those dudes. Sorta worried about the other one though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:47pm pacific standard simon:

The guys with the pickle?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:53pm Andrew Waterloo:

excuse me for a sec guys, I need to go sit in my canoe.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:55pm pacific standard simon:

Can you canoe? Can do!
Swag For Life Member 11:57pm 12539:

Thanks, Mr Mandl!
Avatar 11:58pm Dave Mandl:

Thanks, all. Have a great week.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:58pm pacific standard simon:
