Listener comments!

Avatar 6:03am HarktheUmpire:

Good morning Dave!
I was nine years old in 1996.
That was fun, mostly, if I remember correctly.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:04am fred:

Good morning Dave, guten TZAG everybody
Avatar 6:05am Dave Bombay:

Good Morning Hark, Fred, & Listeners everywhere!

1996 I was infinite.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:05am Guido from Cologne:

Good morning Dave, guten TZAG everybody!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:07am fred:

@HarktheUmpire: By 1996 I was already working and had given up too things for good: wearing ties and getting haircuts
Avatar 6:11am HarktheUmpire:

Goeiedag Guido!

@Dave: are you referring to an LSD trip?
@fred: no relapses in the last 18 years?
Avatar 6:13am Jay/London:

good Morning fred dave ... happy easter days off !
Avatar 6:14am Dave Bombay:

@Hark - I am referring to my state of molecular being during 1996. It was a complicated time.

Good morning Guido & Jay!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:14am fred:

@HarktheUmpire: none, I've been clean and fully intend to remain so (the haircut thing is in the process of getting irrelevant anyway)
  6:14am Mark:

"A Love Supreme," only the greatest album ever made, probably. The perfect choice as the sun comes up on Good Friday.
Avatar 6:16am Dave Bombay:

Thank you mark! I 100% agree.
Avatar 6:20am HarktheUmpire:

@fred: Congratulations! :)
I admire your persistence, especially in our hair-obsessed times.

I have nothing against a good colourful tie though.
Avatar 6:21am HarktheUmpire:

Great start of the show, Dave!
Just what a needed and perfect with my coffee.
Avatar 6:23am HarktheUmpire:

Avatar 6:29am Sem Chumbo:

Damn, this looks roomy for a personal Hell. Got room for one more? Morning, Dave B., and hello all.
Avatar 6:33am Dave Bombay:

Hey Sem! You are always welcome to share in our misery!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:49am Guido from Cologne:

Party and dance prohibition in Germany
Avatar 6:56am Sem Chumbo:

@Guido: Funny you should mention that. I watched this recently:Sub Berlin - The Story of Tresor (Germany, 2009) - A great look into the german techno subculture
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:00am Guido from Cologne:

Thank you 4 the links Sem. I'm afrais I never appreciated German the way I propable should. Though I was somewhat in touch with the scene in the 90ies.
Avatar 7:00am B/wad:

Beautiful stuff, beautiful show this morning.
You're thawing my body out of a week-long tonsillitis.
Respect from London.
Avatar 7:01am HarktheUmpire:

Thanks for the link Sem!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:03am maestroso:

G'morning Dave
this Regina track is very nice
Avatar 7:03am Sem Chumbo:

@Guido & Hark: thank our good friends at the "documentaries" sub-reddit:)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:04am Guido from Cologne:

Here a film about 80ies cassette culture (where I also was involved in). Haven't seen it yet, but the trailer is quite promissing: vimeo.com...
And this is the whole feature: vimeo.com...
(I will watch the tresor film as well. Thanks again Sem.)
Avatar 7:05am Dave Bombay:

Thanks B/wad & Maestroso. Thanks for join us today!
Avatar 7:07am Sem Chumbo:

@GFC: much appreciated.
@Dave Bombay: Hell seems awfully fine this am.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:08am Guido from Cologne:

(... in order to avoid misunderstandings: I was involved in cassette culture, not in the film ...)
Avatar 7:14am HarktheUmpire:

Thanks Guido!
While we're at it... any other documentaries you'd recommend? :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:19am Guido from Cologne:

Avatar 7:22am HarktheUmpire:

I actually don't know Hawkwind...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:32am Guido from Cologne:

Legendary and long lasting psychedelic/spacerock band, call it "British Krautrock" if you want. Once featured Lemmy Kilmister long before he startet Motörehad.
Avatar 7:34am HarktheUmpire:

That's going to be educational then. A big gap in my knowledge.
I probably won't call it British Krautrock too soon though, they'd have to be pretty amazing to live up to that name.
Avatar 7:42am Sem Chumbo:

The Bombay 45's jukebox is rockin' the stream this *good* Friday. www.hell-cat.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:43am Guido from Cologne:

"British Krautrock" is a quotation from shindig magazine.

"krautrock" was kinda swearname back in the 70ies in Germany
And it was less adressed to the experimental bands but rather to some prog/AOR in the shadow of UK/US competitors.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:43am Guido from Cologne:

Yeah! Really dig the punk jukebox!
Avatar 7:47am HarktheUmpire:

Thanks for clearing that up. I thought it was aimed at Can, Faust, Neu and all.
Avatar 7:47am PKNY:

Good TZAG all! Man, this "Sugarman" cover is nice!
  7:49am 169barMEGAfanJPEE:

Wonderful. I like this.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:54am Guido from Cologne:

That is the Julian Cope kinda view on that name.

Faust and Neu were not really taken seriousely by larger parts of German music scholars.
Avatar 7:56am HarktheUmpire:

I am blissfully unaware of the opinions of German music scholars, but if not Faust and Neu, then who did they take seriously?
  7:58am 169barMEGAfanJPEE:

What about an Altered Commonwealth?
  8:00am J Patlen is God:

Big fan of that space alien song. I listened to it within an Altered Colony.
Avatar 8:01am Dave Bombay:

Is this the sexy J Patlen from McJ?
  8:02am J Patlen is Danzig:

Only his number 1 fan.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:02am Guido from Cologne:

stay blissful! Germn music scholars of several generations could be obnoxious for several reasons.

Kraan, Grobschnitt, Lake, Lindenberg ... well, what does it tell us nowß
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:04am Guido from Cologne:

Guardian Alien is awesome.
This "perfec"-?? also
Avatar 8:04am Dave Bombay:

Hahaha! Well welcome one and all!
  8:04am J Patlen is Danzig:

I know there's not a whif of Danzig anywhere on this playlist but I awoke this morning with Danzig on the mind and can't help but wonder if in the future people will, not unlike with Elvis, have Danzig sightings.
Avatar 8:05am HarktheUmpire:

That name is just perfect.
Avatar 8:08am Dave Bombay:

@J Patlen - I bet it will happen. I have Joey Ramone sightings from time to time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:10am Guido from Cologne:

Grobschnitt: legendary prog rock band.
Maybe you know EROC, long time their drummer, to day highly regarded producer and mastering engineer.
Most people did not know the name came from Film editing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:11am mariano:

Jeez, J Patlen: for a second I was scared, thinking Danzig had died!
  8:18am Dan in Milwaukee:

good morning Dave and listeners of all nations
Avatar 8:18am HarktheUmpire:

I just like it because it sounds like "gobshite".
Just tried listening to some Grobschnitt. noodle noodle noodle, going absolutely nowhere. ugh...
Music scholars are idiots.
Avatar 8:18am Dave Bombay:

Howdy Dan!
  8:20am J Peters is J Patlen:

@mariano Sorry 'bout that, but you just reminded me to Google "Danzig" just to make sure he is, in fact, still alive.
Avatar 8:20am bibi:

hi all.
you seem to talk about music scholars, what do you mean ? musicologists ?
it gathers quite a lot of different people.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:20am common:

dave. all. happy friday!!!
Avatar 8:21am Dave Bombay:

Hey Bibi!

Hi JP & JP! I hope brunch is going well!
Avatar 8:24am Cheri Pi:

here we are again, greetings people!
Avatar 8:24am HarktheUmpire:

Some German music scholars who apparently decided that wanky prog rock were to be taken seriously and bands like Faust and Neu were a joke.

I don't actually know those scholars. But I feel a tremendous amount of disdain and scorn amassing in my tummy.

Give me some targets Guido!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:25am mariano:

@J Peters: I did the same thing!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:25am fred:

@bibi: there are pretty cool gigs at instants chavirés the next couple of weeks (Gnaw + OvO should be worth the adventure of crossing the periph): www.instantschavires.com
Avatar 8:25am Dave Bombay:

Yo yo Cheri Pi!
Avatar 8:27am bibi:

@hark, i have personnally the same problem with prog, but we must assume people dont always look at the thing while listening to music. for some people, the aim is the technicity of it, the virtuosity, for others (like us i presume) the aim is somewhere else.
@fred, thx ill check this out !
Avatar 8:32am Sem Chumbo:

@Dave: please tell us you are not drinking this:www.toxel.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:32am Guido from Cologne:

The virtuosity-obsession was a typical 70ies desease. Then came Punk and one generation of music scholars were taken over by the next generation. Anywway the next generation was better informed, but also often enough putting sh**. I must be very carful to give any names.
Avatar 8:36am HarktheUmpire:

@bibi: those people... I guess you're right and I'll just have to accept that they're out there. The world is a scary place. I'll just try and stay away from them.
Avatar 8:36am Cheri Pi:

Avatar 8:37am PKNY:

Avatar 8:37am Jay/London:

arr hawkwind Yay
Avatar 8:37am bibi:

@hark, btw yr trainman video is a killer, my buddies loved it.
Avatar 8:38am HarktheUmpire:

Thanks for the Hawkwind, Dave!
I'll start my re-education today with that documentary.
Avatar 8:39am Jay/London:

love in search of space !!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:39am Guido from Cologne:

very attentive!
Avatar 8:39am HarktheUmpire:

@bibi: glad you enjoy it! How about the one about birds?
Avatar 8:41am Dave Bombay:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:45am mariano:

A song that lives up to its title, for once!
Avatar 8:46am Sem Chumbo:

Hmmm, better get to Emergency to see about this deviated septum. It's been a real snorter of a show, Dave. Catch next week!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:48am common:

Avatar 8:49am Dave Bombay:

Ha! See ya next time Sem!
Avatar 8:52am bibi:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:56am Guido from Cologne:

Avatar 8:56am HarktheUmpire:
