'Evening, all. Bleurgh, a bit tipsy and might pass out soon, heavy week so far, but I'm glad FMU is out there.
  12:12am $mall ¢hange:

cheers man! show will be archived tomorrow...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:13am mariano:

Thank you, kind sir!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:14am fleep:

Might want to look at the show title, after the date, over yonder <-----
  12:17am $mall ¢hange:

what problem? ;) thx
  12:22am bluevast:

A suggestion for the iPad app maybe a visualizer to move with the music while we listen to this awesome station:D
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:31am mariano:

So far been lucky in BK: moved to Carroll Gardens in 2001, still only (only!) pay $1,650 a month for a one bedroom.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:34am fleep:

You want crazy rents, try San Francisco.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:35am mariano:

Lived there too, from '95-'98, though I managed to live in a house where the most I paid was $285, on Oak between Buchanan and Laguna, when the Central Freeway was still there. Now, of course, it's ridiculous...

This will be a better set than Eric Alterman could come up with.
Avatar 12:38am Droll:

...or Boston or Tokyo or Hong Kong or London... Lots of expensive places to live. Some of them are even fun!
Avatar 12:40am Holly in NC:

Hi everyone!

@fleep - have you seen this? Dolphin requests & receives assistance
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:41am mariano:

London's crazy: I have friends who went to Oxford who paid 900/month in pounds back in the 90s.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:42am mariano:

I'm with the Intifada, Judaeophile that I am!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:46am fleep:

@Holly Thanks, that's amazing footage. And it makes me want to bury a hook in some fisherman's lip.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:49am mariano:

Speaking of Montreux, any Alexis Cole, who's performed there a couple of times? Amazing vocalist.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51am fleep:

Rent is expensive here, but in downtown LA there are still SROs and dingy old apts, we have only begun to gentrify. SF is saturated, there is no poor part of town.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:53am mariano:

Never lived in LA, but a lot of the most formative music and films for me are LA-based, the whole 80s LA hardcore scene, plus movies like Repo Man, Pulp Fiction, Chinatown, and Mulholland Drive.
Avatar 12:55am Holly in NC:

Marlena -Nina = amazing segue!
Mij next would make my head explode ;-)
Avatar 12:56am Droll:

That is an amazing video. It's amazing how different species seem to know how to ask eachother for help. A cat once stopped me and tried to get me to cut out a knot -- it kept shoving the knot into my hand when I would try to pet it. Strange cat, it also posed for this pic: 31.media.tumblr.com...
You can see how much fur there was to get matted.
Avatar 12:57am Holly in NC:

@Mariano - love all films you mentioned, esp. Chinatown. LA Confidential?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:59am mariano:

@Holly: LAC, love that too!
  12:59am Pat. James Longo:

Great set, stop talkin' over Nina

Avatar 1:00am Holly in NC:

Droll! What a stunning cat!
Were you able to cut out the knot?

Holly & Stavros: two cats?
Avatar 1:13am stavros:

i think this room is big enough for two cats
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:13am mariano:

Hey DJs, all: ever heard of Stony Island, a long-neglected 70s film about a struggling Chicago funk band? Great movie, leads all played by real funk musicians, all music, far as I can tell, recorded live:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:14am mariano:

@Stavros: spoken like the true cross!

I bought that Les McCann CD (Swiss Movement) 16+ years ago at a famous Manhattan record shop: The Colony on B'way at Times Square. Anyone remember that store? They had so many great hard-to-find titles in stock before the internet days. Thanks for playing it; brought back so many great memories. I heard fmu play that record when it was first released back around 1973 I think. I love it when fmu plays those old hits from yesteryear.
Avatar 1:26am stavros:

sweet. love gil scott heron
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:27am mariano:

Umkhonto we sizwe!
Avatar 1:28am CDToaster:

Sweet! C'mon, do Angel Dust, too! The greatest druggie song of all time (at least one of them).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:30am mariano:

@CDT: don't remember that store, moved to NYC in '98. Lots of things, like Kim's, have closed doors since I've been here, sadly.
Avatar 1:37am CDToaster:

Hi mariano, yep, you're right about things changing fast. The Colony was located on the northwest corner of B'way and 49th. Do yourself a favor and go to this site to read about The Colony. It might make you cry, but if you went there like I did, you will cry. Go here:
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:46am mariano:

No please, @CD: living here is heartbreaking enough as it is! Used to work at 1585 B'Way. Will go to the site though. In other news: I'M THE SLIIIIIIIIME!!!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:50am mariano:

Is it Metal Man Has Hornet's Wings, or Metal Man Has Won His Wings? Never been able to figure that out...
Avatar 1:53am CDToaster:

No you're not, mariano, I am. Ever see FZ perform that song on SNL? He had this huge TV on stage that at the right moment, hundreds or thousands of gallons of this disgusting slime poured out. It was absolutely great. I have it on dvd if you need it. You should try to view it on YouTube if it's posted. Greatest Slime performance ever!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:57am mariano:

No way, @CD! I remember, as a kid, seeing Zappa performing "Dancing Fool" live on SNL, but never "I'm the Slime." Thanks a mill for pointing me in the right direction. Btw, ever see Zappa in '63 on the Steve Allen Show?

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:08am mariano:

That guy in FL?!? Shot some kids who happened to be black, calls himself a rape victim. Scumbag.
Avatar 2:20am CDToaster:

Mariano, what a wonderful experience it was to view that video; no, I've never seen it before and can hardly wait to share it with other FZ fans. Thank you so much! I really enjoyed it and laughed out loud. Wonderful!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:25am mariano:

@CD: Thanks! Just discovered it myself, glad to share!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:26am mariano:

Pray away the gay?!? The kid's totally gay! And I'm a Southerner, from a Baptist school from the Reagan 80s! Class of '87.
Avatar 2:27am stavros:

its illegal to do gay "conversion therapy" in new jersey as well
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:31am mariano:

Love it, as a Southern Christian, when people like me call Jews antisemites. And I'm from Louisiana! I remember well the Duke run for Gov! What hypocrisy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:33am mariano:

"Love it" meant sarcastically, of course.
Avatar 2:34am CDToaster:

Mariano, here's the link to the FZ Slime video:
Avatar 2:35am stavros:

not true. i can hear it fine on compute stream
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:36am mariano:

Thanks, CDToaster!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:38am mariano:

OMG, CD: I remember this!!! Don Pardo reading the lyrics!!! I saw this as a kid! Thanks!!!
Avatar 2:42am CDToaster:

Hey Mariano, recently, while listening to fmu, I've heard SOMETHING regarding Zappa Plays Zappa but I don't know what it was in reference to. Can you or anyone help me? I think I heard Irene Trudel talk about tickets to Zappa Plays Zappa but that tour is over so I don't know what it was about. Any help from anyone?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:44am mariano:

No idea, sorry, @CD. Was it maybe Dweezil on tour?
Avatar 2:46am CDToaster:

Mariano, I don't know; all I heard was ZPZ and tix for Friday but that tour is over. Not a problem, I'll just listen to her show again on the archive. It was a great show anyway and definitely worth hearing again. Thanks for the turn-on again.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:50am mariano:

@CD: yeah, you too! Brought back some memories, that video. Write Irene -- in my limited experience FMU DJs are very cool about writing back, especially about music matters.
Avatar 3:02am CDToaster:

Thanks for the advice, Mariano. You are correct.
  12:46pm Jay Schiavone:

I might have gone with Major Lance's version of "Gypsy Woman," which Curtis produced for his own label.
