A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Alice Coltrane carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

Had a really long recovery lie-in today so the morning show is my morning show too, despite the time difference! Good morning all!

Good morning Trouble.
I already star-tagged gunter schickert

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:11am Ken From Hyde Park:

Good thing I haven't left for work yet. The schools here getting dismissed early (snow coming!) and kids will be back home in a couple of hours. Maybe I should duck out to the gym for a little workout and a shower, though.
  9:13am chris:

Very cool painting
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:14am Mike East:

talkiing about painting blue, i discovered a crazy story about yves klein lately. hold on.
Avatar 9:34am bibi:

check the 2 first paragraphs, nice conceptual trick.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:37am Adrian in London:

@Bibi: Ha! I hadn't heard that story before; love it.
Avatar 9:38am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- nice cover of one of my favorite Beach Boys songs; Brian Wilson said he wrote it for John Lennon to sing - who was busy writing his own just then - but I can well imagine him singing it...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:42am Guido (Cologne):

You know that Yves Klein eventually poisioned himself by working with all his chemistry without protection?
Avatar 9:42am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- indeed bibi !
...Had a trick blue soda like that once: made me fear for the state of my liver...
  9:44am LovecraftDude888:

oof...more snow oh nooo I'm staying hunkered today methinks
Avatar 9:44am bibi:

@guido, yeah this guy was a sick genius.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:45am common:

i used to paint with oils with my hands. lots of cadmium red. just waiting to explode or go insane. that last part may have already happened. thanks for the link, bibi.

Avatar 9:48am ᏠЄႶႶỊѺµЄ:

This painting is making me think of the 1970s movie version of King Kong. The shape on the right is definitely a giant ape.
Avatar 9:48am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...I've seen things on TV they take geiger counters to red ceramics & they read pretty high...& a kid who made a backyard reactor from glow-in-the-dark watch pigments & such & got a formal visit by govt. officials...There's that book 'Let the Artist Beware!' about the dangers of materials.
  9:50am LovecraftDude888:

I used to build like 10 models a week as a kid....of all kinds, planes, airships, etc. monsters....never inhaled all that glue,..maybe some?
  9:51am LovecraftDude888:

I never painted many, so that's prob. good!
Avatar 9:53am still b/p:

My comment handle could be a medical notation made after I'd seen that Klein exhibition.
Avatar 9:53am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- yes but - you're just a little kid - hours over this model w/ most likely no special ventilation - & that glue...
Avatar 9:54am duke:

full moon ensemble sax sounds like Pharaoh Sanders

haha! But hey, I'm fine! I listen to WFMU...anyway, but all that Carbona I sniffed...now that was another matter. gabba

  9:55am LovecraftDude888:

I did once build a lovely full scale Ghidorah model...I think it was snap-tite though, not a hard one. I didn't paint him. I wish I still had it!
  9:57am LovecraftDude888:

so there was an exorcism in MD but Father Merrin did not officiate...ah well oh boy

  10:07am LovecraftDude888:

I have a tiny mini one here on my CD shelves...and a big plastic Godzilla one of those new Bandai ones or whatever from a comics shop. Pretty keen. He sits on the frig.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:08am dale:

i haven't purchased music in ages. my donations here have become my music purchases. although a chain called FYE has used vinyl and i was holding janis ians first on verve and todd rundgren 'todd' in my hands for about 20 minutes before i put them back
Avatar 10:08am bibi:

trouble got obvious skills in french. seriously.
  10:09am LovecraftDude888:

Dale: yikes. I'm buying fewer and fewer CDs and vinyl, even.
Here and there, though. FYE I found was a bit expensive,
like Sam Goody's of old but better selection. I'm not even sure if the LI ones are still going...I think a few. They're ok.
  10:10am LovecraftDude888:

I just got the Velvets WH deluxe and M Feldman CD Aki Takahashi cause...I needed to own the genuine item of those. Otherwise....forget it.
  10:11am LovecraftDude888:

I also love that I can get certain box sets nowadays cheap used...whereas, in the 1990s...forget it. I got The Jam box set for $30 2 yrs. ago, at some local shoppe.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:12am dale:

most vinyl is one or two ninety nine. not bad, but they are sealed so you can't see condition. usually i hold something, put it down and come home and hear it on youtube and am glad i didn't bother.
  10:13am LovecraftDude888:

I still need that Janis Ian first reissue...gotta get that one on CD at least. That's well worth owning in any form. I know I was doing a fair amount of vinyl restore here on the PC but I have slacked off a lot. And I don't own a really high end table.
Avatar 10:14am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- how many discs in that Jam box - ?? I suppose I could websearch...
- Would we call the blue up top 'Azure' - ? I was thinking 'Cornflower' for that kinda blue w/ slightest grey - but most seem to think that brighter w/ purple tones...
  10:15am LovecraftDude888:

may have to drop out for a while folks...back a bit later if so...need to get storm prepped hehe I guess....whatever that means. oh the Jam box set: 5 CDs of pure masturbation! plus a nice book. so bloody good!
  10:15am LovecraftDude888:

as Jesse Malin would say "you can jerk good to it" (thanks Jesse)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:15am dale:

she was like 15? pretty amazing writer.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:16am Guido (Cologne):

janis ian#s first is worth the price I'd say (if vinyl in decent condition).
  10:16am LovecraftDude888:

yeah it's scary how young Janis was then...good lord
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:17am Trouble:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:18am dale:

dang, now you all have me wanting to go back for it, if it's still there. i hate the mall.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:19am SeanG:

i'm digging this big time
Avatar 10:20am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- Woh! - & there's Oud tonight @ that restaurant...wish I was rich & urban like y'all (ha ha)...
  10:20am LovecraftDude888:

the Mall haha yeah it's fear inducing usually. Anxiety for me for sure..sometimes. IKEA...be afraid! Anyhoo..i think the CD of that janis ian is better since it was fully restored or remastered in the mid or late 90s or even again recently. I think. Or a good copy of the vinyl for sure, a good table,
and a good preamp or amp...wohooo!
  10:21am LovecraftDude888:

i went to some good Turkish restaurant on UWSide a few years back that was really good, don't recall the name though. It's prob. still there. Really great.
Avatar 10:22am still b/p:

Yes, so the Dusty Springfield track, Mama's Little Girl, sounded like Soulful Strut, so I looked it up, and she has the other song, Am I The Same Girl, that IS Soulful Strut with lyrics, and I'm still not sure I've got all the how-what-which straight.
  10:23am LovecraftDude888:

You mean Society's Child right? The reissue 2 CDs..that's the one to get I think, you get it all and remastered I heard it was exceptional
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:23am Guido (Cologne):

I saw her (janis Ian) early Verve albums back in print.
All worth checking.
The last is pretty much R&B.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:27am Guido (Cologne):

Ah yes ... with second album Shadow Morton stopped taking care and she overtook the production job. (She later -first carrer break- became sound engineer.)

Society's Child double CD was expensive here.
but the albums seem to be back as single issues.

Avatar 10:30am bibi:

these liminanas are weird, some tunes like this one are nice linear speeches, some are regular (uninspired) pop tunes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:30am Ike:

I still don't think they're properly equipped down here in LI and NYC or NE NJ for this type of event... I dunno why not. The last storm here, my building staff did a fairly good job, but the town...not so great on the side roads and things. So it becomes a whole driving hazard mess, and they just are not equipped.. I guess. The highways are another matter.
