"I listened yesterday. It's no reflection on you but I could'nt see where you were going or what you were going for. This early seventies thing did'nt get noticed the first time and you talk about friends of like Dealney and Bonnie who had records out like we're supposed to remember who they are. Then you play this long winded free jazz stuff that really grates on my nerves. And that noise without a beat and sounds like someones being pinched. Then you play a reggae song, I think you called it Dub, to what, be cool? You seem to really fetishize the whole folk thing too which is obnoxious to us who don't even care. I liked it when you played that punk song though. I like Joe Belock a lot." (Visit homepage.)

Avatar 6:13am John Allen:

Dex, Goerge, Sem, looms, hi!~ happy new year. dex, what time zone/ everything ok?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:15am George of Troy:

I was going to ask dex the same thing. I'd love to take advantage of my JA shot glass during the show, but I was always told gentlemen don't drink before 10 AM.
Avatar 6:17am Sem Chumbo:

One hour later than Jersey City, 600 nautical miles north northwest. -10C and very windy, as per usual.
GOT: and your problem is? :)
Avatar 6:18am Looms:

GOT, you still can use the JA coffee mug ;)
Avatar 6:18am John Allen:

no judgement here, of course
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:18am sinister dexter:

up insomniac here in michigan finishing last nights libations has become my tantric ritual ...... the party never ends. Very well John thankyou
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:21am George of Troy:

Good point Sem... who am I kidding?

Looms, I am lacking said JA coffee mug. Maybe time for a reissue.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:26am AndrewC.:

I used my shot glass on NYE. Made the whiskey taste good.
Avatar 6:37am Sem Chumbo:

"The yardarms on a sailing ship are the horizontal timbers or spars mounted on the masts, from which the square sails are hung. At certain times of year it will seem from the deck that the sun has risen far enough up the sky that it is above the topmost yardarm. In summer in the north Atlantic, where the phrase seems to have originated, this would have been at about 11am. This was by custom and rule the time of the first rum issue of the day to officers and men. It seems that officers in sailing ships adopted a custom, even when on shore, of waiting until this time before taking their first alcoholic drink of the day."
Avatar 7:08am Sem Chumbo:

Enjoying this morning very much, despite not having a JA shot glass. Making do with a Flintstones juice glass, featuring Bam Bam.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:09am maestroso:

G'morning JA
Nice Isham track. I think I have this on vinyl.
Avatar 7:20am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- so Sem - you're an hour earlier than Eastern Merican Time ? Weather saner yet? I finally gotta little cold - wish I had a BamBam shot - all I got is wine...Tue. is *my* 'Saturday' - so most often listening to JA after Pub Night if you get my drift - just now I think Miso & JA picks will do me good...
Avatar 7:26am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

BelowZero & *windy* is serious business - probably par the course up there...Very grateful there's been little wind thru the cold here...
Avatar 7:28am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...this is great - as got in the habit of thinking that early 70s Electric Miles stuff stood alone - Thx...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:30am George of Troy:

Been watching for a copy of this Laser Pace album since the last time you played it, JA.
Avatar 7:41am the glowing one:

leland shreds! isn't it obvious?
Avatar 7:41am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...because it's one louder innit?...
Avatar 7:44am Jay/London:

Avatar 7:45am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Avatar 7:45am John Allen:

Avatar 7:47am Jay/London:

Avatar 7:47am PKNY:

Avatar 7:49am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Avatar 7:50am PKNY:

Oops I meant this Sir Douglas Quintet, there was a delay on the playlist.
Avatar 7:51am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...Sir Doug prob. leaves puddles of music wherever he stands...
Avatar 7:52am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- ah - he's long gone...
Avatar 7:54am Jay/London:

Avatar 7:56am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

iTunes :
Avatar 7:57am PKNY:

That Josefus track is available on Spotify as well.
Avatar 7:58am jamesie:

I heartily endorse Mr Grumpy telling fans to be quiet at his concert last night
Avatar 8:00am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...Neil...ā™¸Scorpio pride : ) ...
Avatar 8:02am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Hendrix ? / Old musician's joke?: 'We don't care if you Boo - as long as you do it In Key'...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:06am fred:

RRN63: Is that version in key? www.youtube.com...
Avatar 8:09am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- wull, I'm not booing fred
...yerknow it's funny (but then again not) - but I think Kronos Quartet 'got it' a lot more than a lot of guitarists who try it...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:12am fred:

@RRN63: you're dead right about Kronos, have you ever heard their take on the star spangled banner? It used to be a regular in their live sets, years ago
Avatar 8:13am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- they do it Jimi-stylee ? - ?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:14am fred:

@RRN63: yeah, or at least they used to, and I thought it was even better than purple haze
Avatar 8:18am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...I remember seeing a concert w/ Chinese pipa - which is their little flat (no resonator) pear-shaped lute-like instrument - & the player played a composition about a royal battle - hundreds of years old - replete w/ 'anthems' & impressions of cannon, &tc. - & I thot - this is not so different from Hendrix !...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:20am fred:

The pipa is one of my favorite instruments ever! I saw Kronos play with Wu Man once (they have collaborated on record a few times), and Wu Man too other times. I wish she'd play more often nearby, it's been years
Avatar 8:24am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- good cover of Byrds; as innovative as they were (a lot) - they didn't have George Martin to do strings or such (some Production touched weren't the best)...
Avatar 8:24am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Avatar 8:26am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...could it be the Everlys were *even better* than we thot ??...
Avatar 8:29am Sem Chumbo:

Reading over the playlist for the last dozen selections reminds me when I leave for real world chores I miss so much good stuff. Archive here I come.
@RevRab: re time zone query: Atlantic Standard, like much of Brazil.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:36am Brian in UK:

@RR & fred you might this, starts off with a Hang then on to dan Bau and onto dan T'rung.
Avatar 8:39am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Cheers Sem, Brian.
Avatar 8:40am northguineahills:

As per usual, John is picking them quite well today.....
Avatar 8:41am PKNY:

I had heard somewhere that Phil Everly did a version of this. Feeling it more than the Hollies version.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:43am common:

good cold morn!
Avatar 8:44am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...even a 'star spangled' synchronicity ?...
Avatar 8:46am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...I love d the damned bit Gibson acoustic Jumbos the Everlys had & which the Beatles picked up on too - they way they held them up & out as they belted out the best 2-part harmony ever
...yerknow - Rawk & Pop are about Gestures...
Avatar 8:47am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- biG Jumbos (me Dumbo)...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:51am fred:

@Brian: thanks, I'll check this out later (at work now, video is too distracting)
