Aaron in Minneapolis:

Can you play more Evenly stuff this week?
Avatar 11:09am
Juke Joint Jonny:

Yeah, Michael, no wobbly stuff this week.

We saw sleepy LaBeef at "skippers smokehouse" in Tampa, I heard he knows more cover songs then anyone in history!
Avatar 11:12am
Michael Shelley:

And he likes to make everything a medley

I request "cross over the bridge" by Patti Page

Zowie. This Kings tune puts me back in a very specific time and place. Frightening, but thanks!
Avatar 11:17am

I haven't heard "Switchin to Glide" in decades. Thanks Michael

There goes the bridge!
Avatar 11:19am

before they were the kings, they were crash kills five.
Mark Rosen:

Michael, is there a track listing available for More Superhits yet? Loved Vol 1 !
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:21am
Ken From Hyde Park:

It make me mad when some DJs cut off the "Switching' To Glide" part of that one. Thanks for playing that part today.
Avatar 11:21am
Michael Shelley:

Tim McDonough:

Greetings Michael from Upstate NY, too long since I have listened, making a Saturday at work much better! And "Switching to Glide" by the Kings? Too fab for words..Thanks!
Joff out of Bucky:

i absolutely LOVE Margo G; underrated genius - and have never heard this - THANKYOU Mr S !
Avatar 11:25am

actually, i'm wrong. crash kills five became shadowy men on a shadowy planet. the kings are from toronto, though, no matter what wikipedia says.
Avatar 11:26am
Michael Shelley:

Joff - when will the next Bucky lp be released?
Joff out of Bucky:

When Margo Guryan concedes to do all the songs on it as duets with us!

I lked that Spanky song - reminiscent of "Love American Style" or a sit-com theme.
Avatar 11:36am

Dang, you got Swamp Dogg up on that sucker. He's the one relatively contemporary artist upon whom my father-in-law and I can agree.

Music please.

WFMU - The Best Radio Station You Never Heard Of!

You really think "One Toke Over The Line" is a great song? I must take exception to that.
Joff out of Bucky:

Sean T.:

Enjoyed the Tom Wilson article. But with most of the Zappa collection in my archive, I of course knew him name, like I do for just about every producer for every record I have ever bought. I would say better than 10% of them were purchased based on production credit and studio musicians on the recordings.
Avatar 11:40am
Michael Shelley:

perhaps I need to rethink that - great version might be more accurate
Avatar 11:40am
ChooChoo - ATL:

"One Toke" cover: nuthin' but love for that song could get you to do that.
Avatar 11:40am
Juke Joint Jonny:

Is Momo-Sei's thing to make you like horrible songs? This one does it for me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:42am
pacific standard simon:

What's wrong with you guys? "One Toke" is a fine song!
Avatar 11:42am
Sonny Rickles:

"One Toke Over The Line". One of my least favorite songs of all time. Yuck....

Alert! There are multiple copies of that 5tyle CD on Amazon right now for like 37 cents each! Got me one.
Tim McDonough:

Now this is a mind blowing version of OTOTL.

Saw B&S do OTOTL at the Schaefer Festival in '73. The highlight of the show was Bruce being on the bill instead of Boz Scaggs - as opener for Anne Murray!
Avatar 11:49am

Did they talk about Emmet Otter's Jugband Christmas in that Paul Williams doc?
Avatar 11:50am
Michael Shelley:

Avatar 11:51am
Joe B:

Hi Michael, agree on the Paul Williams doc. Basically, it was a movie of the director revisiting his childhood 'I remember when celebrities were everywhere, and one of them was Paul Williams!'
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:51am
pacific standard simon:

Someone wore out his T Rex albums...
Avatar 11:53am
Michael Shelley:

yes - false advertising - it was not an actual documentary - it was a movie about a guy trying to make a documentary
Avatar 11:56am
Joe B:

The only good thing to come out of it was I was able to meet Mr Williams when it came to the Angelika
Hackensack Slim:

B&S? Who's that?

Great Show, Mike
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:58am

@Slim - Some other guys who did a version of "Wichi Tai To".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:06pm

Yeah, I think I get it, Michael -- didn't the Fastbacks and Young Fresh Fellows do quite a bit of that?
Avatar 12:07pm
Michael Shelley:

Yes - but not as pedal to the metal

ahh i can't believe i didn't know "Girl About Town" was a cover.. I'd only heard it done by twee pop group Tullycraft
Avatar 12:08pm
Michael Shelley:

I think - Helen Love did the original
Dan the neighbor:

rad tunes Michael! you have to make me a cd or something!

Helen Love did in fact do the original "Girl About Town". Also great.

I'm having a hard time tearing myself away from the "500 Worst Reviews" pages!

Well jeez. Funny wikipedia article for Helen Love: "The main thematic elements in their oeuvre are Joey Ramone, summer days and bubblegum music." Indeed.

Fifty seven, here. It was a hell of a thing when RS could put Captain Beefheart on the cover and publish a rave article -- then turn around and run a review trashing the Stooges or some such thing.
Avatar 12:23pm
Michael Shelley:

I enjoyed reading RS in my High School library - but even then I knew it lacked all credibility - a lot like the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame

Totally a Jonathan Schwartz move, Michael- this song is so good, it gets played twice :)
