Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:05pm tim from champaign:

Hey Duane & Duaniacs yet to check in! Good to be back on the Duane Train.
Avatar 12:05pm mauri:

wou wou wou fine sounds
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:07pm Caryn:

Hi Duane & Duaniacs! Damn, Lee's low voice is interesting here.
Avatar 12:08pm duke:

This is one damn depressing song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:08pm robyn:

mornin all. been on a bobbie gentry kick this past week. what a cool chick.
  12:08pm Lou:

  12:08pm Sam:

Uggh! Just come down from Dover you fucking jerk!! I hate that guy!
Avatar 12:09pm Duane:

Hola all!! yeah Dolly wrote a downer huh? Love "Down from Dover"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:14pm robyn:

"tomato mozzarella" eh. a woman after my own heart. or gut.
Avatar 12:14pm Cecile:

bummer, playlist is not even showing up on IE.
Avatar 12:15pm Duane:

really Cecile? That blowz!!!
Avatar 12:16pm Cecile:

yeah. OH, well, I can at least hear it on IE, and catch up on Explorer.
Avatar 12:17pm Cecile:

I mean Firefox.
Avatar 12:19pm ᏠЄႶႶỊѺµЄ:

Happy Wednesday everyone. Wonder how the track name "Pizza Guy" came about? Not what I would think to call this song, but then again, it is lunch time right now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:19pm robyn:

you should totally produce a pizza inspired mixtape for SUW's Michele duane.
Avatar 12:20pm Eli:

Who is it?
Pizza guy.
Learnin' 'bout Cuba, havin' some food...
  12:21pm JTE:

Can anyone here recommend a place that repairs VINTAGE audio equipment? I've found only two places in the NYC area and both have extremely s
ketchy reviews.
  12:21pm MG:

I like this Pizza Guy song. From what year is this?
Avatar 12:22pm Cecile:

Mike East might know. Or maybe Clay Pigeon. Or someone on here.
Avatar 12:22pm Cecile:

this has both a jazzy and a Kompakt-y feel to it.
  12:23pm JTE:

Clay - good idea.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:24pm Mike East:

huh, what? I heard my name...
Avatar 12:24pm Cecile:

repair place for vintage audio equip?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:26pm Mike East:

vintage audio...hmm...we used to bring alot of stuff to EARS (Expert Audio Repair Services). We use Fuchs Audio alot these days. B3's used to go to Pennsylvania to Speakeasy, or this guy Mike Casino.
  12:26pm JTE:

  12:27pm JTE:

Great thanks. I have a Marantz 1060 with a blown channel. probably time for a thorough cleanup.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27pm Ken From Hyde Park:

We're flying the Duane Plane today.
Avatar 12:28pm steve:

sick sk-1 hi hat!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:28pm robyn:

this sound can have a renaissance anytime.
Avatar 12:30pm Eli:

Avatar 12:30pm Cecile:

yay, J-Zone!
Avatar 12:31pm Cecile:

I picture the Duane Train being a Bullet train with the luxury of the Orient Express inside, and an excellent sound system.
Avatar 12:32pm Eli:

Pizza Guy: Fast times ref?
Avatar 12:33pm Cecile:

Now, should I go see Empire of the Sun? I like a few of their songs, but their videos make me fall on the floor with their ridiculousness.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:34pm Kat in Chicago:

Is GB same person as Gifted & Blessed?
Avatar 12:34pm Cecile:

Dolly is ridiculously talented.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:35pm Mike East:

@JTE - I'd definitely check with Clay on that. Seems like whoever fixes his tape decks would be the right man for the job.
Avatar 12:35pm Gwendolyn Macrae:

I totally LOVE Dolly Parton's really early stuff she sang when she was really young.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:36pm Kat in Chicago:

Oh cool, thanks Duane. I bought a Gifted & Blessed record recently, 4 tracks, name escapes me just now but it's good!
Avatar 12:36pm Gwendolyn Macrae:

It was so dark and depressing and beautiful. Songs about suicide and child murder and what not, but sang with the voice of an angel.
Avatar 12:37pm Cecile:

Gwen, ITA. Her cover of Mule Skinner Blues kills. And I think she was the first woman to sing it on record at the time.
Avatar 12:38pm steve:

JTE - try The Analog Lab... as reputable a repair shop as you can find. they don't do much tape stuff these days but its worth a shot.
Avatar 12:38pm Gwendolyn Macrae:

Yeah! I've heard that as well. She has so much energy on that one. I just love her voice, it's so unique. My personal favs are Girl Left Alone, Little Blossom, and It Wasn't God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels
Avatar 12:39pm steve:

oops... didnt see Mike East's post... EARS is now The Analog Lab
Avatar 12:39pm Cecile:

There's a track on "Coat of Many Colors" called "Before I Lose My Mind" that is completely chilling. Swinging gone bad...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:41pm robyn:

this future classic stuff IS the shit. great first hour so far duane.
Avatar 12:42pm Cecile:

whoops, "If I Lost My Mind."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:42pm Caryn:

All I can say is that I totally agree with all the praise for Dolly.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:44pm Mike East:

@steve - a friend of mine just took an electronics workshop there. He made his own custom DI box for his project.
Avatar 12:44pm Cecile:

I know I sound dopey, but what keyboard makes that low bassy sound?
Avatar 12:44pm ᏠЄႶႶỊѺµЄ:

Duane - have you ever been to Dollywood? I have yet to make that pilgrimmage, but will some day.
Avatar 12:47pm steve:

nice! ive actually been working there part time for a year (im there every friday) to help them with top secret new product development
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47pm Mike East:

these days, I'd say the moog voyager is the most common keyboard used for low bass.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47pm Mike East:

cool, steve!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:48pm Mike East:

Is Doug still there?
Avatar 12:48pm Cecile:

thanks, Mike!
Avatar 12:49pm βrian:

Oh, J'adore Camille !
Avatar 12:49pm Duane:

Jennique: Never been to DollyWood. Tried to go in '00 while road trippin..but we got "Wally Worlded..it was close for repairs..DAMN!
Avatar 12:49pm Eli:

@Cecile, there are some great lower priced fun options these days like the Moog Minitaur (huge bass, but a module, you'd need a controller) and the Arturia Minibrute. I'm a longtime synth snob and have some of the big boys, but I LOVE my minibrute. Extremely hands on and creative. Might be complex at first, but you'll have hours of fun using it and it can make huge bass...
Avatar 12:50pm Eli:

Loving this set today, D.
Avatar 12:52pm Jshatan:

This is quite a midnight groove. I might have to turn down the lights in my office...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:52pm tim from champaign:

Damn, getting Wally Worlded at Dollywood? You got Rodney Dangerfielded, Duane. No respect.
Avatar 12:53pm steve:

Mike - Doug has his own thing now but stops by occasionally. my understanding is he just repairs amps, PAs, other things we're not too excited about... the Analog Lab pretty much just does vintage synths, effects, etc. now - the good stuff. pretty amazing place to hang out.
Avatar 12:54pm βrian:

"Je vais prendre ton choufleur ..." (It's lunch time.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:55pm Kat in Chicago:

Oh man, can't wait to get my mitts on this Sunset Records comp.
  12:59pm KRYPT:

Hi Duane! Ralphi R rockin' it :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:59pm robyn:

i love camille's cover art. she just looks like a badass. ecx.images-amazon.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:00pm tim from champaign:

@Kat - do you ever go to K Starke Records? That's my go to place in Chicago for affordable house 12"s.
Avatar 1:01pm βrian:

@robyn. Yep, she sets my heart to fluttering.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:05pm Caryn:

Man, Camille's face looks very familiar...

And the comments board order is screwing with my mind, because the Dollywood question followed closely by Steve talking about his part-time job for a moment made me think Steve worked at Dollywood... It was a fun moment, though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:06pm robyn:

she kinda looks like milla jovovich but that's the only way i've ever seen milla jovovich emote, so. maybe that's it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:09pm robyn:

also on the subject, i have not been to dollywood, but i have been to dixie stampede. it's weird. it does end with dolly in red white and blue sequins singing "america the beautiful" on a jumbotron-esque screen though.
Avatar 1:20pm Cecile:

thanks for the moog tips, folks!
  1:20pm SeanG:

Avatar 1:21pm Cecile:

who was that Chicago Acid House DJ who also rapped? I stumbled upon him looking for something else and I was pretty impressed. I can't remember his name.
Avatar 1:25pm Droll:

Sound Federation is owning Aquarius! Killer horns, great syncopated riff that alternately flips downbeat against the drums, brilliant reinvention of the arrangement, over the top with stings & tymps!
Avatar 1:26pm Cecile:

I love Ralphi Rosario.
Avatar 1:27pm Cecile:

Duane, have you downloaded the Radio Soulwax app? The Chicago House episode is incredible.
Avatar 1:28pm Cecile:

I thought she be big after Ratatouille.
Avatar 1:29pm Cecile:

she'd be big. oy.
Avatar 1:33pm Duane:

Yeah it's a shame Cecille..total headscratcher why she's not bigger on a global scale.i've heard about that Soulwax show..thanx for reminded me to grab that
Avatar 1:34pm Jshatan:

This Girlie/Aitken is simply marvelous.
Avatar 1:36pm Cecile:

They kind of lost interest toward the end of the year they were doing it, but there's at least 10 episodes that are great.
Avatar 1:37pm Cecile:

the world likes a lot of crappy music, unfortunately.
Avatar 1:39pm Cecile:

this is pretty sweet.
Avatar 1:39pm Cecile:

that whole first verse is going to be remixed to hell, mark my words.
Avatar 1:44pm Cecile:

when is Black America sings the Bee Gees coming out?
Me and my friend had a long discussion about that.
  1:48pm Slaboch:

Whoa! Looking forward to hearing the rest of these Moulton remixes!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:50pm Mike East:

funny you mentioned Beegees...I just came from the back warehouse and my coworker was playing Fleet Foxes...I thought it was the Bee Gees.
Avatar 1:52pm Cecile:

he was like 34 years old, too.
Avatar 1:55pm Cecile:

Avatar 1:55pm Cecile:

I'd hire you, J-Zone.
Avatar 1:56pm Cecile:

Kool Moe Dee finished college.
Avatar 2:04pm Cecile:

Avatar 2:05pm Cecile:

I know, man. I couldn't even sit through one episode of The Haves and the Have Nots.

J-Zone? Did you watch the Jodeci reality series?
Avatar 2:06pm Cecile:

Dude, you should.
'Cept Freddie is low-carb now!
Avatar 2:14pm Cecile:

art and writing are like that, too, J-Zone. ITA.
Avatar 2:15pm Cecile:

  2:16pm SeanG:

I'm diggin' this.
Avatar 2:20pm Cecile:

Avatar 2:20pm glenn:

re dolly: the bargain store is my favourite tune of hers, and one of the most cynical pieces of music ever recorded.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:21pm yayson:

yay yay yay

Avatar 2:22pm Duane:

From JZone with luv..IGNANT Track of the day
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:26pm tim from champaign:

Man, great interview and great set! A lot of fun!
Avatar 2:29pm Jshatan:

This is IT. Keep the 7"'s coming.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:30pm tim from champaign:

What's this Bobby Rush song about? I'm not good with metaphors and such.
Avatar 2:30pm Cheri Pi:

I LOVE this JB song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:33pm tim from champaign:

Black Steel In The Hour Of Chaos!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:36pm Kat in Chicago:

@timfromc seeing this late... I live within walking distance of Kstarke but am not really knowledgeable enough to make the most of it. Planning to go with house-wise friend soon.
Avatar 2:40pm Cecile:

sweet set.
Avatar 2:40pm Jshatan:

Fantastic set.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:42pm tim from champaign:

@Kat - cool! It is pretty intimidating. I'm not that knowledgeable either. I usually pick stuff out based on the couple labels I know, if the title or DJ's name sounds cool and if the price is right. I love the cheap section at K Starke. Good jams from all genres.
  2:42pm SeanG:

shake that thang
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:44pm Kat in Chicago:

Missed a big chunk of this set but it sounds fantastic now. Hurray for archives!
Avatar 2:51pm still b/p:

I absolutely go archivey divey later also. Went to Farmers Market and bought purslane. Purslaaaane! I't s new day, it's a new weed....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:52pm Caryn:

@Kat: it has gotten decidedly funky/R&B-y in here for the last hour or so. Looving it!
Avatar 2:57pm Duane:

Jzone::Thanks for listening!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:59pm Kat in Chicago:

What the hell is purslane?
Avatar 2:59pm Cecile:

Come back soon, Jzone!
Avatar 3:00pm Cecile:

A tasty weed. I think some people call it lamb's purse or something like that.
Avatar 3:01pm Jshatan:

Jzone - well done. I can see the smoke over NJ from here.
Avatar 3:02pm steve:

great stuff from JZone
