Live performance and chat with Guitarist Glenn Jones and Banjoist Laura Baird.
A number of musicians who have played live on Irene's show recently have cited landscapes and places from childhood as big influences on their music. This subject is especially in focus on the latest disc from guitarist Glenn Jones. Titled "My Garden State," the entire album is a meditation on Glenn's childhood home in Northern New Jersey, written while caring for his mother who suffered from Alzheimers. Glenn Jones along with Laura Baird (who recorded the album, adds banjo to one of the tunes, and is one half of The Baird Sisters), dropped by Irene's show to talk about the album and to play a live set. You can find upcoming performances by Glenn here.

Hi Irene. Espers are wonderful!
Avatar 12:13pm Chris from DC:

This might be better than the Primordial Undermind version, and I love that one.
Avatar 12:16pm Cheri Pi:

Woah, that was crazee!
Avatar 12:17pm Van in DC:

Late! Hi Irene & folks. Was over finding out Folklife Festival is on break :(
Avatar 12:18pm Chris from DC:

Van, what is the festival featuring this year?
Avatar 12:20pm Van in DC:

Hungarian, Indian...TUVAN! And more...I met Sean Quirk of Alash at the Tuvan tent, last week
Avatar 12:21pm Chris from DC:

Oh shoot, did not know about Alash. Now I'm going.
Avatar 12:22pm Van in DC:

He fondly recalled their live set right here on Irene's show some time back. Alash is NOT performing at the festival...only amateurs per organizer's mandate (per Sean)
Avatar 12:23pm Van in DC:

Looking forward to the live set today!
Avatar 12:25pm Chris from DC:

Still, looking at the schedule and would not mind seeing what they have. I've been lucky to see Alash twice.
Avatar 12:29pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Holy heck.
  12:30pm Steve-O:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:34pm Irene Trudel:

Hi Everybody! Getting set up for Glenn Jones, although he's probably delayed due to the heavy rain in the area. Hey Van, where is this festival taking place? I'm going to play Alash after I next speak and want to mention it.
Avatar 12:35pm Van in DC:

On the National Mall

  1:30pm don:

Did Gene Clark ever write even a mediocre song? And that voice, one of a kind talent.
  1:36pm Listener Schned:

In re Glenn Jones, it may be Mercury retrograde at work, as well :) We here at the Ca'Schned prefer the quiet zones for commemorating Independence Day too- Thanks for the zillions of hours of peaceful programming, Irene!
