Kepi Ghoulie is coming to the Brighton Bar on Sunday, June 23.
I think I heard there'll be a group backing him up (Dog Party, maybe?).

Avatar 🎸 12:45pm David Shortell:

Deniz Tek played that song at the Brighton Friday night! Much of the crowd had left by then, having attended mainly for the local opening acts. (I wonder how many of them even heard of Radio Birdman?)

Avatar 12:48pm dc pat:

hey man, I know I starred this tune last week. And yet, it was un-starred this week. Hmmmm....
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 12:49pm Parq:

Pat, did you star it on a different show? it doesn't follow across to other playlists.
Avatar 12:49pm Cheri Pi:

I'm always so suprised at how good the Blind Shake is...
Avatar 12:49pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Parq: It's supposed to !...
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 12:50pm tim from champaign:

Blind Shake are one of the headliners in my Fantasy Rock Festival league.
Avatar 12:50pm dc pat:

@Pi: I've been listening to their rekkid for months now and it ALWAYS sounds good.

I need to geddit!! no more of my lame excuses...
Avatar 12:51pm dc pat:

Parq/RRN63: I thought it would transfer too, but this was on Joe's show last week.
Avatar 12:52pm dc pat:

there's just too much good music out there...
Avatar 12:52pm dc pat:

AH! Case-in-point! The Segall/Cronin tune IS starred from a previous starring. Maybe I just didn't hit that star hard enough...
Avatar 12:54pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- prob. only Kenzo can answer...
Avatar 12:54pm Cheri Pi:

this set is pure art Jay Bee; @DCP, sometimes my clicky stars disappear, I figure they're just burning up in the atmosphere.
Avatar 12:54pm Joe B:

CP, same goes for me!

Yes Tim, let me know when it is happening!
Avatar 12:54pm Joe B:

Thanks John!
Avatar 12:55pm Joe Belock:

Rev Rabbitt, it will be Martha again!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 12:57pm Parq:

Okay, an example. I starred George Jones's "Ya Ba Da Ba Doo (The King Is Gone)" when Fiveash played it on May 2, but it is not starred on the Spazz playlist where he played it, even though it was merely later the same day, and even though I starred two other Jones tracks on that playlist.
Avatar 12:57pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- Ta.
- I figure ☆ing is like every other computer/streamy thang: not always perfect...points for poetry C.∏...
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 12:58pm Parq:

I see stars!
Avatar 1:01pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- & - omg! - this Set is Full of ☆s...
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 1:05pm Parq:

RevoRab, Fiveash didn't list an album for that track, and Spazz doesn't have an album field on his p'lists. That may account for the difference. I dunno. It's all good. Just star it again if you like.
Avatar 1:07pm Joe B:

Thanks Adrienne!

Avatar 1:33pm dc pat:

wow. weird-ass cover of Cathy's Clown.
  1:34pm Bluesman:

A very "Rainy Day" version.
  1:35pm KP:

Don't mind version, spelling of name very odd
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 1:36pm KevinfromBayRidge:

It may be rainy but it's still Summer w/JoeB! I'm sure this show won't go into **STAR** Limbo!
  1:41pm KP:

I think I just saw them walk by!
  1:43pm KP:

I'm at the B Cup on Ave B, which according to the Major Thinkers is The Place to Be.
(Would love copy of that one)
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 2:06pm tim from champaign:

According to the Orange Peels' website, their new record is available at Sears and Kmart.
Avatar 2:09pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Wow - OrangePeels: I'ma fan in 3 min.s.
- Next Week!
  2:11pm Woo:

I used to buy a lot of records at Sears. My friend's mother worked there and got me a discount.
Avatar 2:15pm Joe B:

I bought a lot at K-Mart, Sears not so much. Two Guys was another big record source for me in those years
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 2:16pm Parq:

Had no Sears, K-Mart or 2 Guys near me growing up. For me, it was Korvettes and Grand Way, and also a high school buddy got me addicted to the Record Club of America.
  2:22pm KP:

Korvettes and the same Times Square Store as Ellie Greenwich.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 2:24pm tim from champaign:

Yes, Warm Soda! Whoduv thunk that a dude with a mustache and mullet could write suck catchy pop songs?
Avatar 2:26pm shimmy:

is it just me or do the Warm Soda & Bare Wires tracks sound like the Strokes first two records?
Avatar 2:28pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

shimmy: I hear whatcha mean. Not enuff it 'bugs' me tho'...
Avatar 2:28pm Joe B:

singer doesn't suck enough to be the Strokes. But unfortunately i hear what you mean!
Avatar 2:30pm Cheri Pi:

Damn this EDD sounds good.
Avatar 2:31pm shimmy:

sorry, i should have kept my big mouth shut!
Avatar 2:31pm Joe B:

agree CP! I just ordered this. Apparently this is the rejected version of El Moodio. They re-recorded it and Atlantic put it out. I love the released version but this is even better!
Avatar 2:32pm the glowing one:

I agree with you, Cheri P.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 2:33pm tim from champaign:

Oops, I meant to type "such" instead of "suck" in my previous post. I'm totally pro Warm Soda/Bare Wires.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 2:34pm Nate K:

Yeah, this isn't what I think of when I think of EED. Great stuff.
Avatar 2:34pm the glowing one:

so was the original recording from 1991 and has been re-released in 2013? (the approved version by Atlantic being released in 1991?)
Avatar 2:35pm dc pat:

Thalia Zedek?? Haven't heard much from her in a while..
Avatar 2:35pm Joe B:

No shimmy it is a good point. the strokes just annoy me. actually not the strokes themselves (besides the singer) but critics who used to compare them to Television and VU.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 2:35pm Nate K:

Or EDD rather...
Avatar 2:36pm shimmy:

my strokes-detector is very sensitive, perhaps too much so. that said, i liked BOTH of those bands earlier efforts...
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 2:37pm Nate K:

My favorite thing was when critics would say the Strokes harkened back to the early days of punk and then would name-check the Stooges. Huh?
Avatar 2:38pm Joe B:

yes Nate that drove me up a freakin wall
Avatar 2:39pm the glowing one:

Heh, the thing about Zedek is that of all her work I prefer the Uzi record, especially the arrangement about which I have read she didn't like at all.
  2:40pm KP:

Thing about Strokes is five guys and only one sings, at least from what I see on tv. No chorus. Even Keith makes it up to the mic.
Avatar 2:40pm dc pat:

I have Uzi LP...somewhere...
  2:41pm John L.:

The Strokes drummer went to school up here. His then-girlfriend gave me the first single. I thought it was ok. When I heard the album I felt like I should just play "Foggy Notion" for thirty five minutes to get the same effect. But better.
Avatar 2:47pm the glowing one:

dum-dum dum-dum dum-dum dum-dum...

(girls)
  2:47pm John L.:

The one song I heard, off of the new Strokes, sounds like A-ha. But not as edgy.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 2:49pm Parq:

I liked that mashup of the Strokes and Aguilera, done years ago by some guy who called himself Freelance Hellraiser.
Avatar 2:50pm Cheri Pi:

Parquet!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:51pm Andrew Waterloo:

I always thought the Strokes always struck me as one of those groups that are fairly boilerplate, but get a lot of mainstream attention because they're boilerplate at something the mainstream doesn't know about. I felt the same about MGMT.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 2:53pm tim from champaign:

Yes! Games were a highlight of Blackout Fest this year. They played on the same night as Dwight Twilley and Pez Band.

Great show as always, Joe!
  2:53pm Woo:

Extra good Three Chord Monte today!
Avatar 2:54pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- yeah A.W. - & it's Timing too:
- When the Strokes 1st came out - that sorta guitarawk being in any way Popular was notable...
Avatar 2:54pm Joe B:

thanks Woo! and thanks everybody for commenting/listening! see you next week! The Orange Peels playing live!
Avatar 2:55pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...whut - *that* was three hours - ?!?...
Avatar 2:55pm the glowing one:
