Street interviews, listener call-ins, vinyl gluttery, sporadic normalcy, original floperas and fiktion, blatant talking over songs, politix, tenderness, and a vague undercurrent of angst. Right up your alley!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:04pm Matt from Springfield:

Good evening, Dustyers, Claytonites and Pigeonnaires!
And hey Clay!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:04pm Matt from Springfield:

THIRD day?? Clay, you gotta quit for good!
Hey lurker Frances!
Avatar 6:05pm Clay Pigeon:

Frances and Matt ... the core.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:06pm Matt from Springfield:

The cadre! The Claydre!
  6:06pm dale:

so, isn't the irs SUPPOSED to investigate orgs that claim tax-free status?
Avatar 6:07pm sFrances from VA:

You can quit smoking, Clay, I know you can! It'll suck at first, but worth it.
Avatar 6:07pm Clay Pigeon:

You'd think so, Dale.
  6:08pm Joe Camel:

Chantix. The only way to go. Just hold onto your hat when you fall asleep. Trippy dreams.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:08pm Carmichael:

Hiya, Clay. Hey everyone. Those poor Republicans, they can't understand why no one likes them.
Avatar 6:09pm Clay Pigeon:

TY Frances!
Avatar 6:09pm Clay Pigeon:

Dale, Joe, Carm ... hello!
Avatar 6:10pm Clay Pigeon:

My KAnsas LP is a little scratched up.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:10pm Matt from Springfield:

First off, the IRS scandal:
Number 1: That was discriminatory, they specifically singled out groups of a certain political opinion for extra scrunity. We shouldn't do that in America and it was probably not allowed.
And Number 2: The Teabaggers shouldn't get tax exempt status, I agree with that wholeheartedly. NO political group should, they are not charitable groups. But you can't discriminate bit by bit, we need a law that strips tax privileges from all political groups and treats them equally. (Fat chance though, political parties and the officials they back protect that legalized racket).
Avatar 6:10pm northguineahills:

Chases pigeon yet again trying to next under my A/C. Not sure what that has to do w/ anything, but neither do most of my posts.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:11pm Matt from Springfield:

@Clay: Surface noise of authenticity!
@Carm: You were wandering Haight-Asbury as a tween? That's awesome, from a historical standpoint. I went walking through there in 2009, now one of the corners of Haight & Asbury is occupied by a Ben & Jerrys. Typical of the times.
Avatar 6:12pm northguineahills:

Unless x amount goes strictly to charity, no organization should be tax exempt. x should be greater then the current threshold.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:14pm Matt from Springfield:

There was an old time hippie/beatnik/hobo selling back issues of the "Haight Asbury Literary Journal", which I bought as a souvenir. And there's an Amoeba Records there -- that place is the SHIT! :D But just like George Harrison's disillusionment after seeing Haight Asbury; he thought it was a great spiritual revival, as I first thought when I heard about the Hippies. But he went there and found "a bunch of dropouts on drugs" instead.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:15pm Carmichael:

I was 10 or so, hanging out with my older brother and trying to act cool. In my desert boots and Beach Boys striped shirt.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:15pm Matt from Springfield:

@interviewee: But if we shouldn't have called it "global warming", or "climate change", WHAT should we call it? Global warming is inaccurate, as many spots on the globe would cool under that scenario, so climate change is the best term.
  6:16pm dale:

no, he said we SHOULD call it climate change
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:17pm Matt from Springfield:

YEAH NGH!! *So* agree!

@Carm: If "hipsters" as we know them today were around them, you might have gotten props for being "ironic" by being 3-4 years behind the times :)
Avatar 6:17pm david_:

is that the industry term for it, "whisper music?"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:18pm Matt from Springfield:

MCMXXXIV, that's 1984 all right.
@dale: Should? Shouldn't? So difficult to tell in the middle of speech. I'll listen for that in the 'chive, though I stand by my statement in any case.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:18pm Matt from Springfield:

@david: Bumper music as well, perhaps!

MCM - LLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL - XXXIV, so easy to miss! :P
Avatar 6:21pm david_:

Thanks, MFS...
India doesn't have any minerals and raw materials? come on, lady...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:21pm Mutant:

I'm confused by this person
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:22pm Matt from Springfield:

I'm with Mutant.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:23pm Matt from Springfield:

Confused either old person or Zuccotti Park denizen--Clay should have a minimum of one per episode ;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:24pm Matt from Springfield:

Wait...Jimmy Carter AND "Condaleezzy" Rice are her heroes??? Confusion factor upped x 10 now...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:24pm Carmichael:

Conda Leetzi Rice? She makes it sound like an Italian dish.
Avatar 6:25pm sFrances from VA:

Dead Boys rule!
Avatar 6:26pm sFrances from VA:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:26pm Matt from Springfield:

"Condaleasy", maybe?
@Carm: Though condaleezza is a musical term for "with sweetness", that should be a sweetened Italian rice dish!
Avatar 6:27pm Clay Pigeon:

haha Frances ... I understand.
  6:29pm Night Al:

The youth sound complacent...I wonder how many vote?
  6:30pm Faye:

Network. Nobody kisses like Bill Holden.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:30pm Matt from Springfield:

@Night Al: Wasn't it like 42% of eligible 18-29s in '12? And that's almost a record high for them, besides '08...
  6:31pm Night Al:

Faye Dunaway?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:32pm Carmichael:

Who would answer, "No, I don't love America."?
  6:33pm dave:

everybocy seems to love america and all say its the land of the free
Avatar 6:33pm Clay Pigeon:

It's happened more than a few times, Carm.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:34pm Matt from Springfield:

Well, certain far left, OWS members, some self-described Muslims have answered that part in the negative before. It's good that so many "folks on the street" still answer Yes though, the idea of America still prevails in most Americans minds.
  6:34pm Night Al:

So 4 out of 10 voted? Maybe complacencies with every age.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:34pm Matt from Springfield:

Oh I remember Clay, I annotated a few examples ahead of time for you! ;)
  6:35pm dave:

it reminds me of soviet stuff
evryone loves the leader
  6:35pm dave:

not as in literally the president in this case , but the ideal
Avatar 6:36pm Clay Pigeon:

@Dave, or, like when everyone was 'required' to cry when the Great Leader died in N. Korea.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:36pm Matt from Springfield:

@dave: But "The Leader is good / The Leader is great / We surrender our will / As of this date"! ;)
  6:37pm dave:

yes Matt
  6:38pm dave:

people love people surely
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:38pm Carmichael:

Don't be schtoopid,
Be a schmarty,
Come and join the Nazi Party!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:40pm Matt from Springfield:

As for Benghazi, my Number 1 is: IRAQ PART II. They CHOSE that, that was an elective war in every case. For no good reason that killed 5,000 US troops and God-only-really-knows how many Iraqis (in the 100,000s....).
Number 2: Bad things happen sometimes. That's why you had the Executive branch Accountability Board and a previous Legislative branch hearing.
Number 3: Have the Republicans EVER mentioned and condemned the terrorist group that actually did this (Ansar al Sharia), instead of looking for political hay??? There's a Kahlil Gibran parable of that nature.
Avatar 6:40pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

CondoSleazer Reich
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:41pm Matt from Springfield:

Yes dave and Carmichael :)
Avatar 6:41pm Clay Pigeon:

Jeez Matt, that's Mensa stuff there.
  6:42pm Zero:

The Führer was a marvelous dancer
  6:42pm dave:

dont love the state-- they take your life and labour for their own gain
love the people
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:42pm Matt from Springfield:

♥s out to Souljah Girl here!

@Clay: Not so much Mensa as a previously thought out, slightly uninhibited brain-to-fingers flow out of opinion! :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:45pm Matt from Springfield:

@dave: Yes, Fascism is really about the uniting of the state, government and corporations. If you work for government or corporations, remember you're a part of the people. And remember too that the people and the state are separate entities.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:46pm Matt from Springfield:

Vietnam Vets STILL homeless!! Best of luck to the old timers and new timers like her. Hope you all find your way.
Avatar 6:46pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

They carp on *Hillary* for covering for the Prez?
- & people extoll the virtues & achievements of CondoSleazer? I love *some* things about 'America' - but a Country & Culture like that...'America' is a small word for a Very Large & Complicated Thing - for a lotta things: I Love "It"/I Hate "It": You always have to Define Terms in these discussions. Do I love the Grand Canyon? Do I love Richard Nixon? The birth of Rhythm & Blues? J. Edgar Hoover? The Cherokee Nation? The Hope for Immigrants & Refugees fleeing tyranny? - All this & vastly more is 'America' - & people want jingoistic soundbites...
Avatar 6:48pm steve:

hey Clay. you've hit a good mix of intelligent, interesting, and crazy with your interviews this week.
Avatar 6:48pm david_:

These 2 gals are amazing.
  6:48pm Night Al:

You lost 'em at cracker.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:48pm Matt from Springfield:

@RRN63: If I could, I would Ctrl+Delete all the friggin' soundbites! Jingoistic and otherwise! And I get the sense that Condo is brilliant, but a shill: she'll lend her service and intellectual capital to anyone who offered her enough money or power.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:49pm Matt from Springfield:

@steve: Hells yeah! I think Clay always tries for that, but this week I'm feeling enthused about all these interviews, it's going GREAT! :D
Avatar 6:49pm Clay Pigeon:

I trade in broad generalities Rabbit. It's all I've got.
Avatar 6:49pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...& if a Republican administration - like Duhbya's - had been in charge during Bengahzi - & the whole "arab Spring" - they would've done better based on what evidence?
  6:49pm Wasted voters:

Keep voting Democrat or Republican, kids. Divide and conquer. They are all laughing all the way to the bank.
Avatar 6:51pm steve:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:52pm Matt from Springfield:

@RRN63: They would've used that as an excuse to suspend more civil liberties at home, of course. Has O'Bama & Co done ANYTHING totalitarian with that opportunity? Lazy! ;)
Avatar 6:52pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Terrorism could take as long to deal w/ as "Communism" (really crypto-RedFascism Stalinism) did before it - & as Fascism (World Wars) did before that.
  6:54pm dale:

reagan and george the first was 12 years of a crappy economy - why do people love him? because he outspent the russians? i never will get it.
Avatar 6:54pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Obama ended the Torture & the Secret Prisons
- & has admitted no one to Guantanamo
- & also successfully kept us pretty safe.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:54pm Matt from Springfield:

A counter-terrorist foreign policy for 72 years (after the communist bloc from 1917 to 1989), as someone employed indirectly because of that, I gotta approve!
  6:54pm Barack:

It's all about transparency
Avatar 6:55pm steve:

oof. watch how quickly this girl would change her tune if she or a family member got a life threatening illness...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:56pm Matt from Springfield:

This Valley Girl is using code, "those who don't want to work" for "blacks"!

And OMG, drug tests for welfare, how bout YOU take a drug test before receiving a tax credit! Anyone getting anything from the gov't has to drug test, how bout that, Romneygirl!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:56pm Matt from Springfield:

@steve: I agree, your 2nd "Hells yeah!" tonight alone! :)
Avatar 6:57pm steve:

aww yeah
Avatar 6:57pm Clay Pigeon:

Appreciate your listening everyone. Sincerely. I'm afraid my day gig and having less time for FMU has interfered a little with the show quality. Thanks for sticking with me. I'm trying. Stay tuned for Night People and the rest of the TNP! Have a great weekend, take care, and always remember.
Avatar 6:57pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

I am told more BlackMen are in Prison now then there were Slaves. This is the purpose of the totally failing 'War on Drugs' - & it is a complete outrage.
Avatar 6:58pm steve:

this was a fantastic show clay, your best interviews in a while, i thought
  6:58pm Joe Camel:

Good luck with the cigs, Clay.
  6:59pm Night Al:

The problem boils down to all issues to be implemented have to pass through the house, senate, and president. Only 2 are democratically contolled. Lame duck presidency.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:59pm Matt from Springfield:

Here it is, Kahlil Gibran's parable "Critics", midway down the page:
Avatar 7:00pm sFrances from VA:

Have a great weekend everyone! Jazz cigarettes!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:00pm Matt from Springfield:

Thanks Clay, this was an amazing episode, great interviews all around!
Have a good night everyone, and Remember! With head, heart AND soul!
