  👻 Swag For Life Member 12:10am 12539:

Someday I'd like to see the Surface Noise pennant collection.
Avatar 12:11am Joe McG:

One pennant for every song about batteries.
Avatar 12:14am Holly in NC:

Ba da Bing! Hi Joe!
(Ben Ba Da Bing, are you listening?)
Avatar 12:16am Joe McG:

Hey, Holly! How are things in NC?
Avatar 12:21am Holly in NC:

Generally shitty (new GOP state legislature is swiftly moving state back 30-40 years), but in the 1 mile radius that I call "home", super !
So glad that for 1st time in years don't have to work any Mother's day or graduation events (but nonetheless will not leave house tomorrow 'til evening). Moms, grads, and associated families EVERYWHERE.
Avatar 12:23am Joe McG:

Erp, Mother's Day! I forgot to bring some Ma music. Oh well! I just got that EW&F LP with the mom song on it, too.
  👻 Swag For Life Member 12:25am 12539:

Emerson Wake and Falmer have a new LP?!?
Swag For Life Member 12:25am Lonely Planet Boy:

You could cue up Shaft; he's a bad mutha..
Avatar 12:26am Holly in NC:

I love that EWF song! Great live video on Youtube
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:26am fleep:

Mothers of Invention works for me.
Avatar 12:26am Joe McG:

@12539: Ha! Yes, we're all such lucky men (and women). @LPB: Good idea, songs about Muthas instead of Mudders.
Avatar 12:29am Holly in NC:

EWF link www.youtube.com...
Avatar 12:30am Joe McG:

Thanks, Holly. People can watch it and think of their mums.
Avatar 12:31am Holly in NC:

Speaking of crazy GOP... Moe, Moe, what happened?
Avatar 12:34am Joe McG:

Oh, Moe! People often get more conservative as they get older, I'm afraid.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:34am Minnesota Jeff:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:35am fleep:

Stray thoughts and broken washing machines aside, good evening, Joe.
Avatar 12:36am Holly in NC:

There's a difference between "more conservative" and "bat-shit crazy"
Avatar 12:38am Holly in NC:

Ohh, I like this Johnny Paermo!
Avatar 12:40am Joe McG:

Hey, Minnesota Jeff and fleep! @Holly: Yes, Moe definitely has moved the needle on the bat shit meter.
Avatar 12:41am Holly in NC:

And I like Douce Violence also. Need to investigate this release.
  👻 Swag For Life Member 12:43am 12539:

Avatar 12:48am Joe McG:

On this one, you can hear the Plastic Bertrand loud and clear.
Swag For Life Member 12:49am Lonely Planet Boy:

Oohh wee ooo ooo
Avatar 12:49am Holly in NC:

$17 via Goner
Avatar 12:50am Joe McG:

Excellent, thanks, Holly!
Swag For Life Member 12:51am Lonely Planet Boy:

Sonic Youth does a great cover of the Plastic Bertrand hit.
Avatar 12:55am Holly in NC:

More goodness (AoM)! Super show tonight, Joe.
Avatar 12:56am Joe McG:

Thanks, Holly. I meant to play "Subtitles" but I got my A and B mixed up. That's OK, all the songs on the album are good.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:56am Minnesota Jeff:

Dang, this is scorchin'!
Avatar 12:57am Holly in NC:

Tonight it's too bad that you don't segue right into Thomas's 6am show (which I adore)
Avatar 12:58am Joe McG:

@Holly: Thomas is the King of the Punk and Post-Punk world. I'm a mere dabbler in comparison.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:12am Minnesota Jeff:

This Winkies guy has like some sort of odd knock-off Pete Townshend voice.
  1:16am Holly in NC:

Clarence :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:16am G:

"After the Ball," please call your office.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:17am Matt from Springfield:

Solo Martha Reeves! Keep on keepin' on, Joe!
Hey Surface Noisies!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:18am Minnesota Jeff:

This dog portion of the song is an interesting bit.
  1:19am Holly in NC:

Hi Matt!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:19am Matt from Springfield:

Oh man, "Zigzag: 20 Junkshop Soft Rock Singles 1970-1974"!! I already have Glitterbest and Glitter From The Litter Bin, that's an early 70s Brit pop comp I need to investigate!
Swag For Life Member 1:20am Lonely Planet Boy:

Had lots of fun playing drums to this show tonight. Thanks, Joe!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:20am Matt from Springfield:

Holly! :D
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:20am Matt from Springfield:

Holly! :D
Avatar 1:20am Joe McG:

Hey, Matt! You'll like it if you like those others! @LPB: That's the coolest thing ever!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:21am Matt from Springfield:

Hmm, this is starting out like a soul version of a Shangri-Las song plot... ;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:22am Matt from Springfield:

Hey Joe, sounds cool!
Avatar 1:23am b:

Oh my gorgonzola. Who wrote these lyrics?!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:25am G:

am i hearing what i think i'm hearing? :p
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:25am Matt from Springfield:

Hey b! I've got some pretzel and bagel chips on this end, if you don't mind sharing some gorgonzola! :)
  1:26am Holly in NC:

Tanya Tucker needed to school this prim young lady!
Avatar 1:26am b:

Sweet segue Joe!
Avatar 1:27am Joe McG:

@b: The Queen of Country Music wrote those lyrics.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:27am Matt from Springfield:

Some Patsy Cline, and a little...gin.
How bout, for this occasion, a little gin, and some Loretta Lynn! :D
Avatar 1:28am b:

Kitty Wells or Loretta Lynn?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29am Matt from Springfield:

@Joe: Good choice, besides "Walkin After Midnight" and "Crazy" the original may be one of my favorite Patsy songs.
Avatar 1:29am b:

Ah, Loretta, of course.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:30am Matt from Springfield:

Very bistro-ey bed music! ;)
Avatar 1:31am b:

ANY Patsy Cline is a favorite, but boy, some of those country songs back in the day could really be howlers.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:35am Matt from Springfield:

All the songs are out of order?! What kind of disorganized "junk shop" IS this?!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:36am Matt from Springfield:

Chrys Alice! :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:37am fleep:

Single File avatar engaged.
Avatar 1:38am b:

Hurray for random!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:40am Matt from Springfield:

@fleep: Wow, courageous of you to put your dolphin aside for Single File! Thanks, and awesome new avatar!

Hurray random ordering of acculumated 45s at the foot of beds!!!
Avatar 1:42am Joe McG:

NICE, fleep!
Swag For Life Member 1:43am Lonely Planet Boy:

"Hold On to the Night" is all up in my wheel-house.
  1:45am Mike Sin:

Just rolled in in time for "single file"... Nice!
Avatar 1:46am Joe McG:

Mike Sin!!
Swag For Life Member 1:51am Lonely Planet Boy:

Really like this Maxayn tune, with which I wasn't familiar. Not sure Capricorn label had one bad act.
Avatar 1:52am Fernando M Pacheco:

It's late and I tired, but I don't want to leave. Not before single file ends, anyway...
Avatar 1:52am Joe McG:

@LPB: I'm not sure why Capricorn failed. I keep finding great 45s on that label. Did Southern rock kill Capricorn?
Avatar 1:53am Joe McG:

@Fernando: Thanks for toughing it out, man!
Swag For Life Member 1:56am Lonely Planet Boy:

Maybe Capricorn failed due to lack of diversity? you have a good point.
Swag For Life Member 2:06am Lonely Planet Boy:

in re: Capricorn...read Clive Davis' memoir; that's what a label nerd I am.
Avatar 2:17am Joe McG:

I totally do want to read that, just saw it the other day in the library!
Swag For Life Member 2:20am Lonely Planet Boy:

I'm a librarian; glad you visited your library!
Avatar 2:22am Joe McG:

You're doing noble work, sir. I hope you tell those blabby people to shush up.
  2:25am Holly in NC:

Ada woke me up :-) Thank yoy, Ma'am...
Swag For Life Member 2:28am Lonely Planet Boy:

Unfortunately, today's peoples have a different perception of libraries. We do our best...
Avatar 2:32am nah:

My girlfriend moving back to my town with me + worse finances got me to rediscover the libraries around here. I have books out from five libraries in two towns at the moment.
Avatar 2:32am nah:

Which is to say...keep librarianing
Avatar 2:33am Joe McG:

Most of the new books I read are from the library. If, after I read it, I really need to have it, I'll buy it, but to me it's amazing I can read it for free. Yeah, libraries!
Avatar 2:41am listener mark:

That was absolutely brilliant. Tom Jones covers a Bob Dylan song, that was just right.
Avatar 2:41am _crazyandy_______________________________:

I should use the library. I buy books compulsively, yet am only able to read a small percentage of them.
Avatar 2:44am listener mark:

Try a good used bookstore, preferably one run by volunteers connected to a library or hospital. Often people will donate a relatively new book after they read it. The prices are very reasonable.
  2:45am Officer Pupp:

Richard Dawson is a genius. Great choice!
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 2:46am Brian in UK:

Belated hello Joe & listeners.
Avatar 2:48am Joe McG:

Hey, everybody, thanks for tuning in. I like the book talk.
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 2:48am Brian in UK:

I totally second the use of libraries.
This Crazy Horse makes me wonder why I no longer have it!
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 2:51am Brian in UK:

Just going through a Hubert Selby Jnr phase. Tough but it has to be done. Great writer.
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 2:52am Brian in UK:

I had a dream last night that Brian Eno died, tell me it ain't so.
Swag For Life Member 2:55am Lonely Planet Boy:

Great show tonight, Joe! Thanks so much!
Avatar 2:57am Joe McG:

Thanks, Lonely P. Boy! I hope you and everyone else has a mighty fine week. Bye, everybody!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:58am Matt from Springfield:

Phil and Don!
Fell asleep there, but wanted to thank you again for another great show, Joe!

Great week everybody!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:00am fleep:

Thanks, Joe!
  3:01am Steve-O:
