Just a guess but -- I bet the song title (I wasn't here at the very start) is "Wir werden wissen" (we will know).

The most famous mathematician of the 20th century, Hilbert, famously said about the human search for truth, in his retirement speech: "We must know. We will know." It's a pretty well known saying in German...

Though, truth be told, I haven't watched anything from a 24:7 news channel for a few years, now. Too much ego.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:48pm
Andrew Waterloo:

CBC did some excellent interviews with people who lived in the neighbourhood and the older brother's wrestling coach. They also played the full scrums from the aunt and uncle. Still they kept saying the aunt was saying they were innocent, when she was really saying that she wasn't going to accept that her nephews would commit such an atrocity without seeing some evidence.

holy CRAP, "red light" is like some sort of rosetta stone for "it takes a lot to laugh, it takes a train to cry," which is far and away my favorite dylan tune. never knew that.
  7:51pm
trish:

"Too much ego" ? Probably more accurately stated as "too much crap". It lives on disaster or cardboard pap filler. Not my kinda quality news.

i might be overstating the case a BIT, but the connection's definitely there, especially in the first verse.

Mrs. Yankfan tells me she will be joining with Butter, sitting in the donut bed, reading those websites so she, too, can become self radicalized. Is it *self* radicalized if she does it with Butter (the dog who knows the path)?

cavorting with nudists:

Just a bit of pedantry: "Don't the moon look lonesome shining through the trees" is a much-used blues line that probably goes back so far no original can be definitively cited. Google it and you'll see that it turns up in a million lyrics. I'm pretty sure Uncle Bob came up with his own rhyming line for it though. Google "Don't my gal look fine when she's coming after me" and nothing comes up but references to the Dylan song.
Avatar 8:21pm
deanland:

@cavorting with nudists: I got tangled up in blue looking that up, until I realized that there was blood on the tracks as I mixed metaphors, some of which were carpenters' wives.

Before I was born my parents performed puppet shows as a side job & they prerecorded the vocals and music. Growing up I would listen to these tapes. They usually used classical music but one of their stories had the WEIRDEST MUSIC!!! I had no idea it was until about ten years ago when I heard it on, where else, WFMU. And it was Tom Dissevelt & Kid Baltan's Song of the Second Moon.
Avatar 8:27pm
sugarwolf:

so when I was little I listened to that, The Bye Bye Birdie soundtrack, the Threepenny Opera cast album, no wonder I am a weirdo.

ah, thanks CWN. consider me suitably chastened and educated with regard to dylan, merril moore, the moon, and the trees.

G:

I'm Looking Over was big for kid grossout song parodies, too. One I recall from the early 70s is:

I'm looking over
My dead dog Rover
That I overran before
One leg is missing
The other is lame
The third was run over by my toy electric train
You see there's no need explaining
The one remaining
Is out on the kitchen floor
I'm looking over
My dead dog Rover
That I overran before

The Tiny Hill version you played was on the charts in 1948 for Columbia, presumably a rival version to the Art Mooney version that made number one. I don't see the label info for Mooney, but I am guessing it might have been a corporate affiliate of Warner??? (given how much Warner Brothers' cartoons used the song in the late 40s and early 50s)...

This song is like Gram Parsons and Emmy Lou Harris if Gram Parsons had a sex change.

@cavorting -- that GramParsons/EmmyLou comment is the best of the night! Mega uber kudos.

Jeff:

Hey, Mo - great show (of course).

Pedantic hat on - a little German writing / pronunciation tip:

In a word like "Immermannstraße", that funny "ß" thing which looks like a stylized upper-case "b" actually stands for two esses ("ss"). So it could also be written (and is pronounced) "Immermannstrasse".

So there.
