I followed Yacht Rock with baited breath. I always say the most mundane parts of history are the most interesting, particularly if you're making it up.

Another question -- did you guys coin the term Yacht Rock? I learned it through the series. There is a traveling ensemble now called "The Yacht Rock Revue" that just played in NY this past weekend.

I think there's a lot of late Foreigner asking for attention. As YR addressed, those artists entered a whole new paradigm in which a whole new bunch of musicians turned smooth.

Salieri the Mozart rival (in film anyway)...

- Phil Collins can drum for me - don't ;et him Sing or Produce, though
- I'll take Peter Gabriel from Genesis Thanx...

I never heard of 'Yacht Rock' before y'all on FMU recently - !
...Off to Wiki to find out...
Avatar 1:58am

High five to you, Nat. Glad I got in when I did and put the radio on. You scored a coup by some of us -- Yacht Rock is the kind of smart but unpretentious parody that is pretty rare on TV these days. Kind of a live Mad Magazine.

Reading YachtRockWiki:
...I would extract Paul Simon & Steely Dan as OK from this bunch...Journey is comprised of former Santana band people, I understand...
- Reading Wiki, it is interesting that John Oates & Michael McDonald are quoted as boosters of the show! Credit to them for that.

...If I'd been clued in ahead of time (well - I still haven't seen it), I - maybe if it made sense - would've asked him about how he relates to 'Spinal Tap', or 'I'm Not There' the impressionistic Dylan film by Todd Haynes - ??

- I frankly am surprised I have to defend my position as much & as often as I do of hating exactly a lot of this music & culture of that style & era - I almost wonder if I would feel the show was mean enuff for my tastes! But it looks like it's brilliant. Thanx for another Cultural clueing in, FMU...

@neil: & unfortunately - they lived up to their name?
Avatar 2:19am
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Metal heads love 'Spinal Tap' - yeah - ??
...There's always the line that you have to love something - be that knowledgable about it - to parody something that well...
- There was The Rutles before Spinal Tap - don't forget!
- That was brilliant!

...I think Spinal Tap had more influence - on a broad cultural level - than maybe McLaren & the Pistols - in turning the idea of Musicians as Heroes & RockBand people as paragons of Kewl inside-out. That's what it did: Put the Inside on the Outside...'Decline of Western Civilization: Part 2' is exactly like Spinal Tap - except a real doc. !...Both are Funny - *&* Painfull...

...There was a film about a Punk band whose singer had died but they reunited for exploitation - & their misadventures - but do not remember the name for the life of me! It was a bit 'heavy' & a good one...
