Listener comments!

Avatar 3:02pm pierre:

what am I listening to ?

Bonsoir Scott and friends !
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:02pm Stanley:

You may well ask.....
Avatar 3:05pm Rev. Turnip Druid (xBSI):

Avatar 3:08pm pierre:

the weirdest thing happened, I've just friended myself.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:10pm tim from champaign:

Good for you, Pierre. To quote RuPaul: "If you can't friend yourself, how the hell can you friend anyone else?"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:11pm Scott Williams:

Heyyyy, I'ma friend all o' youze! G'dafternoon
Avatar 3:11pm pierre:

Is RuPaul on the FMU Friendship Society ?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:13pm tim from champaign:

She better be!
Avatar 3:14pm Rev. Turnip Druid (xBSI):

jeezus, you could just keep a loop of that HE CRIED thing going all day. Splendid.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:15pm Scott Williams:

Right on Rev! I was sorely tempted
Avatar 3:16pm glenn:

really? shadow morton produced iron butterfly? that's.......disturbing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:17pm Scott Williams:

I was as surprised as you. And Vanilla Fudge!
Avatar 3:18pm glenn:

love the fudge. pretty much hate the butterfly.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:19pm Scott Williams:

can't say I'm a fan of either. Long Island hippie sludge was still waiting for BOC I guess
Avatar 3:21pm glenn:

hippie sludge was a byproduct from the love canal.
Avatar 3:22pm pierre:

everybody that mention Iron Butterfly seems to have somethings against it. (Not saying that i'm an aficionado here, I hardly know the band and its music)
Avatar 3:23pm glenn:

Avatar 3:23pm fred von helsing:

BÖC was hippie sludge ? Interesting..
Avatar 3:24pm glenn:

four words pierre ; fifteen minute drum solo. that's all you need to know.
Avatar 3:26pm fred von helsing:

As a genre name, hippie sludge totally works. Name another couple exemplars of the form ?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:26pm tim from champaign:

Is this Vashti Bunyon's pre-hippie mystic pop material?
3:26pm Yair Yona (Tel Aviv, Israel,Earth,Milky Way):

Avatar 3:26pm pierre:

ooh, I love drum solos. :)
Avatar 3:27pm fred von helsing:

Karen Carpenter :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:27pm Ike:

Wow, they just sang "while the whole world turns to ice." What a coincidence. I was just threatening the coat the entire world in a beautiful layer of ice earlier today.
Avatar 3:27pm pierre:

Yair ! what time do you have ?
Avatar 3:28pm glenn:

ike is channelling robert frost.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:28pm Mike East:

man, that 15 minute drum solo blew my mind when I was a kid...don't think I've sat through it since, though.
Avatar 3:29pm Rev. Turnip Druid (xBSI):

Bring it on, Ike, this whole no-apocalypse thing is getting really old...
Avatar 3:29pm glenn:

Some say the world will end in fire,
Some say in ice.
From what I've tasted of desire
I hold with those who favor fire.
But if it had to perish twice,
I think I know enough of hate
To say that for destruction ice
Is also great
And would suffice.
Avatar 3:30pm pierre:

a bunny hearing a fifteen minutes drum solo :
3:30pm Yair Yona (Tel Aviv, Israel,Earth,Milky Way):

Fred-I'm having a great time ;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:35pm tim from champaign:

Man, I'm getting overwhelmed with the music trivia today. Is it safe to say Shadow Morton is the connecting line between Billy Joel and Blackie Lawless.
Avatar 3:37pm Rev. Turnip Druid (xBSI):

praise. again.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:38pm Scott Williams:

Tim, I guess that's what happened!
3:40pm Yair Yona (Tel Aviv, Israel,Earth,Milky Way):

Scott ,thanks for playing Heldon. I need that
Avatar 3:40pm glenn:

billy joel was the session pianist on many shangri las records. my apologies if scott mentioned that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:42pm tim from champaign:

No need to apologize, Glenn. The Shangri-Las didn't know how Billy Joel would end up.
Avatar 3:43pm Rev. Turnip Druid (xBSI):

Clearly I need to revisit the "other" heldon records. It's always Agnetta Nilsson or Interface, but all this stuff is peak lovely.
Avatar 3:45pm glenn:

i'm pretty sure uptown girl is the best music video ever. christie brinkley? grease monkeys singing into wrenches? a reasonably good tune? what's not to like?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:47pm tim from champaign:

Glenn, you may be right, I may be crazy....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:49pm Ike:

Glenn@3:29, wow, I had forgotten Frost could be such a bad-ass.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:53pm Mike East:

nicely played, tim. :)
Avatar 3:54pm Rev. Turnip Druid (xBSI):

Billy Joel-inspired random flashback: The year his Glass Houses LP came out, there was a surreal product on the market for kids: pink chewing gum shaped like records & packaged in re-print sleeves of the day's popular music. The intent was to cause a collector frenzy(?) I wasn't big on gum. No idea why I recall this.
Avatar 3:55pm glenn:

i vaguely remember that gum. vaguely.
Avatar 3:55pm Rev. Turnip Druid (xBSI):

teeny little gum records. Like 2 or 3 inches across. strange.
Avatar 3:57pm glenn:

and here they are. -ttp://www.chu-bops.com
Avatar 3:58pm Droll:

RTD, I didn't believe you, but alas, truth is stranger than fiction. Witness Chu-Bops: www.chu-bops.com...
Avatar 4:00pm Rev. Turnip Druid (xBSI):

Yep, them's that. Someone gave me the Billy Joel one. I recall that being the LAST piece of bubblegum I ever dealt with.
Avatar 4:00pm Droll:

Nothing says "Bubblegum Pop" like Rush's Permanent Waves!
I'm not putting anything associated with "Loverboy" in my mouth.
Avatar 4:04pm bloopy:

this song is so cool
Avatar 4:04pm Rev. Turnip Druid (xBSI):

[counting on fingers & toes] ... 12 years old. I should've known better.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:08pm G:

O NOOOOOOEZZZZZ!!!!! I happen to be right at Ground Zero when the Chu-Bops Revival bomb is dropped. Am I now fated to die of radiation sickness?
  4:12pm "Socrates":

Is this Thee Open Sex album new? I'm not familiar with them but this track is pretty killer.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:12pm Neil:

Afternoon Scott. Enjoying your show on a day off. That Thee Open Sex song was great.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:13pm Scott Williams:

We're on to Red Bennies now - Thee Open Sex was the thing without the dude shredding his throat over the kick & crickets
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:18pm tim from champaign:

I missed Thee Open Sex when they played in town a month ago. Kicking myself in the butt.
Avatar 4:21pm Green Mountain Man Mark:

me have day off too. spent morning with wife. then made eleventy billion Vine videos. Took sunny nap in our sunny room on the couch in there. Woke up with a cat on my chest and Scott W on.
Avatar 4:23pm Green Mountain Man Mark:

oh cool. The marathon. Let me know if I can help out by donating some money. If that's ok. love to help.
Avatar 4:47pm Green Mountain Man Mark:

where the hell is everybody? did everyone leave once I showed up? That happens.
Avatar 4:48pm glenn:

i was just wondering the same thing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:54pm Sugarfly Waterloo:

I'm a super lurker today
Avatar 4:54pm glenn:

for the cyclists. i admit i'm not one. www.youtube.com...
  4:54pm Qft:

Oh baby oh baby yeah!
Avatar 4:55pm Rev. Turnip Druid (xBSI):

Still present. Though the sudden appearance of "mountain men" can be terrifying.
Avatar 4:56pm Green Mountain Man Mark:

we ran out of fuel oil over the weekend. I was sleeping downstairs and woke up noticing it kind of cold. Went to the thermostat and turned it up and nothing. Went to the basement and saw the gauge on the tank empty. We just got a delivery a few weeks ago. The cap was loose outside. turns out someone may have siphoned some fuel from our tank. I wrapped the spout with plastic wrap and left a note..I will find you and kill your head if you steal any more oil.
Avatar 4:58pm glenn:

yep. you can run diesel cars on heating fuel, so it's pretty likely that's what happened.
Avatar 5:01pm glenn:

however, next time i'll be sure to go to your b.s.i.'s house instead, gmmm.
Avatar 5:02pm Green Mountain Man Mark:

My parents came by yesterday just to drop off some turnips that one of my cousins gave them. Same cousin that gave them a pig's head intended for me. Can't we cut out the middle people?
Avatar 5:03pm Rev. Turnip Druid (xBSI):

ooh. it got all swimmy in this thin rubber skull billowing in a saline robot angel ghost. Me likey.
Avatar 5:04pm glenn:

wow. it's like your grocer is the lord of the flies. and why hasn't somebody opened a chip wagon called lord of the fries?
Avatar 5:05pm glenn:

oh. www.facebook.com...
Avatar 5:08pm Yair Yona:

I want to volunteer and cook vegan food for you - can WFMU fly my cross Atlantic?
Avatar 5:09pm Green Mountain Man Mark:

I think I would have had a huge blast on that doomed Carnival cruise ship. Imagine all of the crazy shit you could get away with during the whole thing. Especially if you met up with other crazy people, or wfmu people. And as long as there was booze. I would have sensed the pending danger ahead of time and grabbed all of the booze and drugs at the bar. Would have been all kinds of crazy shit going on if I was on that ship. Fun stuff, not bad, frightening stuff, which I am also capable of.
  5:10pm moose:

just got home from weekend to find one piece of mail- the wfmu 'tschotske' list- hooray!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:14pm fleep:

What a timely song to surface to.
  5:18pm Mark, Don, and Mel:

Let's see ... 40 minutes left, you could play all of the E Pluribus Funk LP.
Avatar 5:38pm pierre:

ok so now is the time I choose to test that new black spiced rum

called (believe it or not) the KRAKEN !
  5:41pm moose:

look you guys were talking about chu-bops up there- i'll never forget them- had parallel lines which was my first real 33
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:41pm fleep:

@pierre OK. Release the KRAKEN. There, said it. Done.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:43pm tim from champaign:

Kraken is good, Pierre. I'm usually ambivalent about rum but I really like Kraken. Watch out...it goes down way too smooth.
Avatar 5:46pm pierre:

merci fleep, this needed to be said obviously.

@ Tim : noted, i'll go with one (small) drink.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:46pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Took a little trip over to New Paltz with my son. We visited the Rhino Records store there. We noticed some vultures circling town. I guess they must spend the winter there. Nice to hear Yo La Tengo now that we're back.
Avatar 5:49pm Green Mountain Man Mark:

At last year's hoof n mouth I think one of the guys from Yo was playing keyboard.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:52pm Scott Williams:

yeah Ira played keyboards and alto sax
Avatar 5:53pm Green Mountain Man Mark:

cool. thought so.
Avatar 5:55pm Green Mountain Man Mark:

we might be able to get away and come down again for the thing this year again. Not sure. Emily REALLY enjoyed it last year. We took the train down and back the next day.
Avatar 5:56pm Green Mountain Man Mark:

And Scott shaved his beard mid way and left a rim job style stache.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:58pm fleep:

Great set, thanks, Scott
Avatar 5:58pm pierre:

Is this show can last a little longuer ?
Avatar 9:46pm Stanley The Meat Guy:

  4:28pm skylove:
