Salut Diane !

Do you talk to your momma with that truck mouth?

Hi, all!!!
Avatar 12:17pm Cheri Pi:

Hola Cecile!
Avatar 12:18pm Cecile:

hey, lady.
I am up in the UP next week for a few days. I will eat a porketta sandwich for you.
Avatar 12:19pm Cheri Pi:

Jealousy! Scout out a few locations for our Banh Mi-pasty shack franchise, eh?
Avatar 12:20pm Cecile:

I'd rather scout out locations for chemical waste dumps or minimum security prisons...
Avatar 12:20pm Cecile:

Avatar 12:22pm Cheri Pi:

or a burial site....for the Sterns. We can easily pin that on Rick Rubin too...
Avatar 12:22pm Cecile:

I had a pretty weak Asian-style pasty the other day.
Now if they are separate....
Avatar 12:22pm BSI:

Ah, Cecile... I need to get back up to Sault ste Marie (sp?) -- the missus took me up there last year for the first time, had to take a break from the veg.diet when I found this place - www.saultantlers.com - How can one NOT do the venison pie when surrounded by all that taxidermy?
Avatar 12:22pm pierre:

Avatar 12:24pm Cecile:

ok, BSI, we gotta go there.

Porketta is yummy...
  12:24pm Luna:

Hola! That's odd, I just found out yesterday that a friend of mine from Sault Ste. Marie passed away end of January.
Avatar 12:25pm Cheri Pi:

Avatar 12:25pm Cecile:

I'm sorry, Luna.
Avatar 12:26pm Cheri Pi:

So sorry Luna :(
Avatar 12:27pm Cheri Pi:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27pm Cory:

I have to get out my dark elf assassin.
  12:28pm Luna:

Awwww, thank you Cheri Pi and Cecile. It was definitely a shock. Nice show today already!
Avatar 12:28pm BSI:

I'm consistently veg., but whenever I encounter weird game-animal options (locally prepared), gotta do it. That UP spot was a hoot. I'd suggest going off-peak hours though, as it gets full and they go into goofy mode (wait-staff singing happy birthday, all that crap) -- but if it's mellow & nearly empty, tis a groove.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:29pm tim from champaign:

Are you folks familiar with Three Floyds Brewery's Dark Lord Day? It where they unleash their super limited super malty Dark Lord beer. Metal bands play and home brewers bring their brews to share. I can't go this year but I'm going next year for sure.
Avatar 12:30pm Cecile:

No, tim, but i know Surly Brewery here does a Darkness day with bands and stuff.
Avatar 12:30pm Cheri Pi:

I've never been Tim but that brewery is nearish by to Ohio. I'd love to go one of these days.
Avatar 12:30pm BSI:

That sounds brilliant, Tim.
Avatar 12:32pm pierre:

that's funny (well not "funny" per say but) you're mentionning this BSI. I was speaking to a friend saying that I tend to be a watchful meat eater, especially if it's guts / tripes / veal's head / pigs feet/ears… all that stuff I really really fancy.
Avatar 12:36pm BSI:

heh, Pierre, I'm still pretty timid about offal type meats. Typical american, no? (but loved the venison in northern michigan, moose-meat chili in maine, reindeer in alaska, etc) - otherwise it's hippie vegetarian stuff. .... GOD, this dark lord is hungry now.
  12:37pm Dave:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:38pm tim from champaign:

Yeah, Three Floyds is worth the visit, Cheri. They have great beer, good grub and excellent music. The bartenders have a turntable behind the bar. The past few times I've been there they've played Sleep, Eyehategood, Dead Boys and Saint Vitus. Super refreshing because too many breweries play jam band blugrass jamgrass b.s.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:40pm Mike East:

I never knew jamgrass was a genre, but I now hate it.
Avatar 12:41pm pierre:

I get that, I'd love some venison too.
I get that in america it might sound a bit gross, but that true that in here (I mean in my family anyway) we're are used to all that left-over meat, it's a thing it use to be not to waste food, and i'm thinking, if you kill an living creature to eat it, at least make it count. :) That's why I guess it was for more poor people. But that is traditions and cultural things I guess.

And I'm really found of Hippie Veggie stuff, i usually make it my daily diet, for about a year more or less. The weird meat is for special occasions and sundays. ^^
Avatar 12:41pm Cheri Pi:

I'll be back-in search of lunch.
  12:44pm Luna:

You are not kidding, all of the local breweries here, and there are many damn fine establishments, ALL cater to the "jamgrass" bands which bore me most of the time
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:46pm tim from champaign:

Mike, it's terrible. A bunch of dipshit waspafarians playing shitty mandolin with wacky band names. It's a friggin travesty.
Avatar 12:46pm Cecile:

I call it hacky-sack fusion.
Avatar 12:46pm Cecile:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47pm tim from champaign:

That's awesome, Cecile!
Avatar 12:47pm BSI:

Jamgrass, Hackysack Fusion: both = horribly accurate.
Avatar 12:48pm Cecile:

pierre, I eat venison when the father in law gets a deer. I also like all the bits except for cow liver. Ugh.
Avatar 12:48pm Cecile:

yeah, i was thinking about it, and it's just bad fusion with blond dreadlocks and a hemp shirt playing hackey sack out on the college lawn.
Avatar 12:49pm pierre:

@Cecile : yeah, I guess some stuff can be harsh. But as my lebanese ganddaddy use to say "You don't know if you don't like it if you've never tried it before, and if it's the case, just SPIT IT ON THE FLOOR!"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:50pm Mike East:

lol - waspafarians! This is a great vocab lesson for me. I'm so glad I'm not exposed to this crap (anymore), but I'm glad I now have words for it.
Avatar 12:51pm Cecile:

Trust fund hippies is another great phrase. or Trustafarians.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:54pm Mike East:

easily recognizable by the moe. sticker on their VW Jetta
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:55pm tim from champaign:

I've been veggie 20+ years. As I've aged and my food appreciation has increased, I hang on to it as a dietary control. I know if I don't 'd be gorging myself on all sorts of awesome meats, especially when it came to ethnic foods. I do appreciate the meats though even if I don't partake.
Avatar 12:55pm BSI:

...hah! Trustafarians. A distant cousin to the "georgetown punks" of yesteryear, who would beg for change despite being festooned in spotless new cherry-red docs & fresh manic-panic spikes...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:57pm Coe:

great tribute DK
Avatar 12:57pm MenfussMike:

spiritualized do a great cover of that song
Avatar 12:57pm pierre:

that's the thing also, my country isn't a very Veggie firendly country… a damn shame…

Here you go to either view or revisit:

  1:28pm Luna:

Nice, Hellworms
  1:28pm ScottC:

Operation Anthapoid is actually one of the most heroic military operations of WW11. These Czech commandos wiped out a really bad Nazi (Heidrich)
by ambushing him at a stop light in Prague. Of course they all ended up getting hunted down and killed in a church. amazing story.
Avatar 1:28pm Diane Kamikaze:

Yes Cecile, I have seen it. I have seen it pretty much in real life too! :)
Avatar 1:29pm Cecile:

I was gonna ask you if that was the case. LOL!
Avatar 1:30pm Cecile:

maybe you could slide on "fistfight in the parking lot" some random week...
  1:30pm ScottC:

Anthropoid I mean
Avatar 1:31pm Cecile:

Scott, I will have to ask my husband about that - he is a huge WWII buff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:32pm Mike East:

Avatar 1:35pm Cecile:

aw, I liked quite a few songs by the blondes
  1:36pm ScottC:

they all got caught because one of them went to visit his mother after the operation. He had been in England and he missed her. The church is kept as it was - bullet holes and all.
Avatar 1:36pm Cecile:

I saw that church in my art class the other day!!!!
  1:37pm Dave:

I kid you not: high school, mid-'70s, school production of Ibsen's Peer Gynt, featuring a power trio behind the stage performing a rock soundtrack to the play, including Grieg's anthem. Way before Blackmore.

Foreign-language punk is marvelous. All that ultra-meaningful lyrical content totally neutralized into pure sound. Much better. Always dug Boskops for that reason.

@Cheri- no, it's not a bootleg; Pink was released a couple of times. This is from the version on DIW/Phalanx
Avatar 2:51pm ðcp:

funny BSI... I recently had an idiotic debate with someone who claimed they could not listen to songs that aren't in English because they couldn't understand them. funny like the music itself is non-English

My love for you is like a truck Berzerker........Would you like to be making #$%@ Berzerker
Avatar 2:55pm BSI:

@DCP: some folks just can't break away from the "lyric" and "meaning" thing. I dig it all as raw sound, which is probably sacrilege for a kid who came of age in 80s Dischord turf; went to shows & totally ignored all the earnest flag-waving & just dug the groove. Speaking of which, jeez, this Berzerker...
