DCE:

great way to start the day, Liz! better than Special K.
  9:06am
Sam:

Better than bath salts too!
  9:10am
fxo:

thanks Liz, for fixin' the webcast for me!
  9:11am
Kenzo (lastever):

Liz's waking us up slowly
  9:12am
Cheri Pi:

Helloooooo Liz and Liz' Listeners!
  9:12am
DCE:

I saw some guys doing some weird drugs in a parking lot this weekend. I wonder if they were the bath salts. They would snort something and then pound their fists on their heads.
  9:13am
DCE:

man do I love this track!
  9:15am
Sam:

This really is great. I never felt so relaxed on a Monday morning.

Hi everyone, wakey wakey!
  9:20am
B23:

B23 here! My morning has been pretty crappy so far so I'm ready to slide into some great music
  9:31am
Cheri Pi:

this is sick Liz Berg! Hi 23ness!
  9:33am
B23:

Oy, no sooner did I sit down in my office chair did I get a call from a customer with serious network issues and I have to go on site. Heh, the customer is 3 minutes from my house... no fun music for B23 this morning. You all are going to have to get through this without me. :-(
  9:36am
Cheri Pi:

Damn you B23.
  9:36am
cobra dan:

Is it saying get your bath salts?
  9:38am
Cheri Pi:

God, I wonder what happened to Ken the other night. I didn't read his obit in the NYT so he must have survived.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:43am
Liz B.:

Ken survived, he said the experience was pleasantly speedy, but he did take the lower end of the "recommended dosage."
  9:44am
still b/p:

Didn't I see him in some of the earliest photos from the Curiosity rover?

Great set so far to push and bounce along this Mondayne.
  10:01am
Sam:

Ken proved that bath salts are not only safe, but enjoyable. What a great public service.
  10:04am
Cheri Pi:

Ken glorified bath salts and dispelled cannibalistic "bad press" Win/Win
  10:07am
DCE:

he has served humanity in a great capacity.
  10:15am

MSOTT s/t is my favorite of the year so far. glad i started streaming by chance at work. time for coffee. xxxx
  10:16am
dcp:

welp. Summer's over. That's it, all she wrote.

morning!
It's not over. I still have 2 weeks before school...

Sleep deprivation. You're talking my language.

my teacher wife is starting her pre-school seminars and inservices today. I am SO GLAD I am not a teacher.

Liz B.:

Anyone catch the closing ceremony last night? Most of what I saw was a snoozefest, but I did like the Pet Shop Boys' get-ups.
  10:22am
Cecile:

I am too. I just have a typography class for work. But still, first time since '89 I've been in a college classroom
  10:23am
Berg:

greetings - glad I tuned in, getting the needed energy to finish off this first day of my last week at work!
  10:25am
dcp:

waited all night for the Who and then they said, ok, we're done. But we'll be back in an hour with the Who. I went to bed. Snoozefest is right.
  10:25am
Berg:

@LizB I was most moved by that part of the show with Kate Bush's music, even in her absentia..
  10:26am
dcp:

Eric Idle was the best--can't believe he actually sang "Life's a piece of shit, when you look at it..."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:28am
Liz B.:

Ha ha, oh yeah dcp, they were ready and bleeped the shit outta Mr. Idle. That kinda talk is no big deal on UK TV.
  10:28am
Cecile:

I loved it. It was so over the top.

And I kind of choked up watching all the athletes singing along to Wonderwall.

The Brazilian number was also great. And the Spice Girls. And Jessie J. The only thing I really didn't like was Tinie Tempah. I don't think he has any rap chops.
  10:28am
Berg:

the price of the ticket to the ceremony was EUR1800 btw.. I was happy in front of my telly..
  10:28am
Cecile:

And Annie Lennox was awesome as well. And Eric Idle!
  10:29am
joe:

'ello folks.
  10:29am
dcp:

yeah I guess the Limeys are more advanced than us when it comes to cussin'
  10:29am
joe:

Liz I enjoyed securities lightbulb hats. I missed Pet Shop Boys and Madness which I was kind of bummed about.
  10:30am
Cecile:

Madness were superb. The place went INSANE.
  10:31am
jt:

yeah, it was scary how the crowd knew the madness lyrics like it was happy birthday
  10:32am
dcp:

I liked that MSoTT piece.
  10:33am
joe:

Cecile glad to hear they got such a good reception. I'm sure it will pop up on line somewhere.
  10:35am
Cecile:

Wish You were Here really choked us up.

I'm trying to figure out who was in the Brazilian number. Pele, of course, and Marisa Monte and a Brazilian supermodel, but there was a rapper who I swear was doing a part from an old Chico Science song!
  10:37am
dcp:

I thought most of it was embarrassingly over the top. I like that my kids got to see that John Lennon bit though. Imagine is still an intensely powerful song.
  10:37am
doca:

it was bnegão, i guess, former member of planet hemp (which was one of the great rap groups from 90's brazil).
  10:39am
doca:

and if it was "maracatu atômico", it is from jorge mautner re-recorded later by chico science. an amazing song.
  10:39am
Cecile:

I'm talking about the guy in the poncho with lights. Is that bnegao? The press seems to be identifying him as the guy in the red outfit with the broom.
  10:40am
Cecile:

It was! It was!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  10:40am
BenG:

The whole thing was in the spirit of fun. It probably wasn't perfect in anybody's mind. They threw the kitchen sink at it. My hat's off to them.
  10:40am
joe:

Although I am starting to wonder if there is anything Brian May and Roger Taylor will say no to. :)
  10:40am
Cecile:

I know it from Chico Science.
  10:41am
Cecile:

I wish they would say no to Paul Rogers and hire Adam Lambert if they're going to carry on.
  10:41am
doca:

no no, the one in lights is bnegão, the other is a street sweeper who is known to work after the samba "schools" passes through the avenue on the rio carnival.
  10:42am
Carmichael:

Good morning Liz, hi everyone.
  10:42am
Cecile:

BenG, it was OTT and whimsical and kind of nuts. Also the giant transparent octopus was as the Brits say, brilliant
  10:42am
Carmichael:

Good morning Liz, hi everyone.
  10:42am
doca:

i found it strange that they're in a huge crisis and they have a lot of different ethnic groups over the entire uk, but the ceremonies were all very "british culture"-centered.
  10:43am
Cecile:

Oh, great, thanks doca. Fantastic. I will have to check him out, I was blown away by him.
  10:44am
joe:

I have a feeling Adam Lambert was not included due to his not being English.
  10:44am
doca:

yeah, you should check marcelo d2 an planet hemp too. they all make an excellent brazillian-tinged rap.
  10:45am
Cecile:

I know, joe, but I'm thinking of the future of Queen. Which I don't normally, but hey, the magic of Brian May.
  10:45am
Cheri Pi:

"when I'm rushing on my rounds"made me burst out in giggles.
  10:45am
Cecile:

I will do that, doca.
  10:46am
dcp:

well, I guess you sort have to leave your good taste at the door for these things...
  10:46am
doca:

who was the woman who sang with queen?
  10:46am
Cecile:

oooh, FMA has bnegao music!
  10:47am
joe:

May still has his chops with out a doubt his playing was pretty damn impressive last night. I still think maybe they missed the boat with George Michael
  10:48am
Cecile:

Jessie J, she's an upcoming UK pop star. She's even starting to get big in the States as well.
  10:48am
joe:

Jessie J...Not A Fan
  10:49am
Cecile:

I think Freedom is still way too personal a song for George.
  10:49am
dcp:

jeeze, am I the only one on earth that can't stand Queen?
  10:49am
Cecile:

I thought she was OK. At least she wasn't autotuned.
  10:49am
doca:

thanks cecile, i haven't find it great, but as i've never saw her before i didn't know who it was
  10:50am
Carmichael:

You mean no one liked George Michael?!? :-) I had to look up Take That; no idea wtf they were ....
  10:50am
Cecile:

dcp, I take Queen in tiny, tiny doses. One or two songs at a time, it's the best stuff in the world. More than that, I feel like throwing up - it's so rich and OTT.
  10:50am
doca:

@dcp: me too, i found out that the most impressive consequence of the olympics was to transform "don't stop me now" into the new "we are the champions".
  10:51am
joe:

@dcp personally not a huge Queen fan. I like May's guitar playing but out side of maybe an albums worth of material no not a big fan at all.
  10:51am
Cecile:

Robbie Williams's first band! Big everywhere but in the US.
  10:52am
Carmichael:

Pat, I loved the old Queen, but Paul Rodgers can take a long jump off a short pier, IMHO. Probably the worst choice ever to replace Mercury.
  10:52am
dcp:

ok, thanks, just checking...
  10:53am
Cecile:

He's like the anti-Freddy, Carm. Why not Will Young from Pop Idol and Groove Armada or Adam Lambert?
  10:55am
doca:

@Cecile: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ocevnfp0vU
  10:56am
dcp:

this is new Redd Kross??
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:57am
Liz B.:

Yep, new Red Kross!
  10:57am
will:

Who unearthed Redd Kross and made them sound like the Cave Dogs??
  10:58am
Cecile:

wow, doca.
So now the name of the album "a lama a caos" is a tribute to lautner!
  10:59am
joe:

@Will Wow did you just invoke a Cave Dogs refrence :)
  11:00am
dcp:

cool, new Redd Kross, new Mission of Burma. what else?
  11:00am
Cheri Pi:

god this is good. MoB never cease to amaze me
  11:01am
dcp:

yeah, that was good, dang. Might have to go see them.
  11:01am
Cecile:

I always learn something new here, and today is a huge day!
  11:02am
dcp:

MoB coming to DC 9/8 all you DCers
  11:02am
doca:

@Cecile: yeah, he's a big inspiration for the mangue beat scene in the 90's and i guess mautner was one of the few who combined the sound from northeastern brazil with psychedelia.
  11:03am
doca:

personnally i like him more than tom zé.
  11:05am
Carmichael:

My comments are not updating. Anyone else having that problem?
  11:05am
Cecile:

I will have to check him out. thanks doca, I'll be busy for a while.
  11:07am
Cecile:

Carm, put it in basic mode. Fancy mode isn't working right now. Look at the top of the comments panel.
  11:07am
joe:

@Carmichael yes I am to I have to manually refresh.
  11:07am
doca:

@Cecile: yeah me too, but later i can translate the song's lyrics if you want!
  11:08am
Cecile:

he didn't even need to sing. He should have just held up cue cards. Everyone was belting it out.
  11:09am
Cecile:

thanks, doca!
  11:12am
Cheri Pi:

you're so lucky DC-ers!!!
  11:12am
joe:

Like my wife said Gallagher sounded like he was trying impersonate himself from 1995 instead of just signing the song.
  11:13am
lizzington:

I speak as a Brit - I thought the closing ceremony was dreadful. Not a patch on the opening ceremony.
  11:15am
joe:

MOB did or is doing a free show in NY. I don't remember the date as I know it was a day I could not go.
  11:17am
Cheri Pi:

MoB is circling around Ohio...but not getting in quite close enough.
  11:18am
joe:

It was on the 3rd I thought it might have passed already.
  11:19am
Berg:

While there was an intro for Rio, there wasn't even a word about the upcoming 2012 Summer Paralympics, starting on Aug 29 of this year on the very same location.. I guess nobody will stay up late to watch those..
  11:20am
will:

I most certainly did Joe. Best power pop band of the 80s (or was it the 90s?)
  11:24am
Officer Pupp:

Lizzington OTM, last night's was awful, awful, awful. Nothing about it could touch the eccentric genius of the opening ceremony.
  11:24am
Cheri Pi:

Gary War is playing Cincinnati soon!
  11:27am
Cheri Pi:

OK...it's getting funky in here (*raises stapler in the air)
  11:27am
Cecile:

Diplo! That wackadoo.
  11:28am

BSI:

Greetings wackadoos everywhere.
  11:28am
paula pc:

this is a helluva lot of fun...
  11:29am
dcp:

ick, I thought the opening ceremony was equally idiotic....
  11:30am
joe-g:

Yes! Oblitum! Liz thank you for playing this track :-)
  11:30am
Cecile:

They were both idiotic. Idiotic fun.
  11:32am
joe:

@Will I think it was the 90's. I was exposed them first by seeing them the Dead Milkmen. Very much enjoyed them.
  11:33am
joe-g:

I was also shocked to be hearing Diplo on here. I almost forgot where I was for a second.
  11:35am
Cheri Pi:

BSI- good morning! Nice of you to join us.
  11:35am
joe:

Keep in mind if you were watching on NBC you were getting an edited version of what actually took place and to be honest I think NBC did a horrible job covering both cerimonies.
  11:36am
Ike:

Great set, Liz!
  11:37am
Cecile:

Of that I have no doubt., joe
  11:37am
dcp:

well I had WAY more fun watching US women beat Japan and Mexico men beat Brazil.
  11:38am

dcp: goooooooooooooooooooooooooooooold

God bless WFMU for breaking the spell of mesmerism known as VH1 Classic and its parade of terrible flashback 80s hair-metal videos. I was in need of an intervention there...
